Can I safely assume,
that now with all these new M1 macs,
and even a forthcoming mbp 16' with apple silicon,
that all these 96w/100w and even lower ones in power,
are suitable for the new macbooks with apple silicons?

I have these ones

Am I ready to go with these ones,
if I purchase a new apple silicon macbook pro?

From what I've gathered reading through this read and other discussions, it seems the Caldigit TS3 Plus is the least troublesome (yet not problem free) of all the current TB3 docking offerings.

I'm quite keen to make the leap and buy one, but given it's pretty damn expensive where I live I thought I'd check - is there any reason to believe the Caldigit will be replaced by a successor anytime soon?

Thanks all!

I think TS3 came in 2017, TS3+ Feb 2020. Reasons to think a successor might be coming could include power delivery (rightly or wrongly they probably lost a few sales by not having the full 96W for the MBP16) and thunderbolt chipset (outdated iirc). Otoh from what I've seen on here it seems to be working OK with the new M1 machines.

There were rumors of a TS3 Plus replacement earlier this year. Unsure if that was delayed due to COVID19 or for another reason. They’re currently on sale (again) and some retailers (like Apple business) will likely not be restocking when existing stock is depleted.

The Plugable TBT3-UDZ is another $50 off for a cyber Monday deal on Amazon. I ordered one for $197 out the door (after CA tax).

I ordered the long waited Plugable TB3-UDZ. It‘s a shame that it doesn‘t support more then 60 Hz for one Display. It has Displayport 1.4 for nothing.

Hi, I read first page and some of the last comments. I tried an Asus SimPRO that works like a charm on my friend 13 MacBook, thus I thought it can work on my 16" MacBook. Thus I bought it on amazon and than find that on 15 MacBook it works with only one monitor, on the 16" Macbook, no video output is possible. I know that the docking station can't charge at maximum power, but I though it charges slower instead of not working at all.

Thus I want to ask witch are currently the docking station that allow the use of two external monitor?

I use this enclosure which isn't much more expensive than docking solutions. It's large so only practical at a stationary desk. It has a bay for a 2.5" SSD, 5 USB and 1 SCcard slot. Also provides 100W to charge the MBP 16. The cost of the AMD card does make it more expensive overall but the fans never come even when play a Mac native game,

I am using the Dell WD19TB with two monitors on a 16"MBP. One monitor is connected via the display-port, and the other is connected via a USB-C->Display-port cable on the Thunderbolt connection.

Question for all of you here. I just backed the new Charjen pro ultimate gen 2. It has insane specs but it only passes 80w to a 16inch Macbook pro. However, I have the 5600m which has 50w tdp as opposed to 85w tdp(5500m, older maxed out gpu). Will 80w or 85w(via my 100w pd power bank) be sufficient for at least the GPU as I really need 50w? I am currently using a dockteck(cable creation) 7-1 hub with 92w host output via my 100w PD power bank. Will this make a difference? Unfortunately, the dockteck has been causing kernel panics as of late via the PD and lacks the 10gps ports, headphone jack, and uhs-2 sd configuration. I need these for video editing. Thanks in advance.

I have the TS3+ and unfortunately it disconnects from time to time.

This means I had to place it on the outbound side of my OWC Thunderbay 4 (which contains 4 JBOD disks) simply because I was getting tired to running disk checks when the TS3+ would occasionally lose its mind and disconnect my downstream disk enclosure.

(Note: I am running Big Sur, and this could be teething problems with the Thunderbolt 4 changes made to the Thunderbolt stack to accommodate Thunderbolt 4.)

This is the second TS3+ which has demonstrated this behavior on my 2020 iMac 5K - the first was replaced as possibly defective.

So ... yeah, it's a nice dock with a bevy of useful ports, but unfortunately it's not completely stable in my experience.

Cautionary note for M1 Mac users: there are reports that a lot of power delivery docks are bricking M1 Macs.

I don't know how prevalent these catastrophes are, but it appears to be happening with a wide range of Thunderbolt PD docks.

I've read one article about this. My daughter has the Air but only uses the Apple-supplied charger. I will just use MagSafe on my next MacBook Pro.
