Thanks for the reports on this thread! It's been reassuring that it isn't just me, if nothing else. I'm trying to debug a friend's 2015 13" MBP running 11.4.

Kernel panic is showing AppleUSBCardReaderDriverNub but what's puzzling is that there is not an SD card inserted.

I tried enabling "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off" when on Power Adapter under Battery in System Preferences, but saw another Kernel panic shortly after.

I think this is happening when the lid is opened after the computer has been asleep.

I'm seeing some reports that 11.5 resolves the issue.

Has anyone found a reliable workaround or should I just wait it out till 11.5 and hope that works for me?

I had the same problem with my MacBook Air M1. Woke up to kernel panics.
Did the clean install.

Same exact problem with my 2017 15". I didn't realize I hadn't updated in a while. Still on 11.3. I'll update to 11.4 and see if it still happens.

Hi,

any news on this? I'm on a MBP (Early 2015) 13" - had the same issue, downgraded to Catalina and waiting for any fix for this problem.

Thanks in advance.

Hi! I've had exactly the problems mentioned here.
After examining logs a bit, I've found out – it's crashing connected somehow with VirtualBox drivers.
After updating to the latest VirtualBox – problem seems gone. At least, no more reboots today.

TODO: please check & update VirtualBox, and 3rd party Drivers (like AMD?) – can help!

UPD: I still have kernel panics :/ Even full uninstall of Virtualbox didn’t help.

Looking further for a solution. Maybe 11.5 it is.

Cheers

Hi!

11.5 finally fixes it!

hopefully for all!

I had a similar problem with nightly kernel panics. I installed 11.5 yesterday and didn't experience a kernel panic overnight. Fingers crossed...

Still happening with the 11.5 update. Here is the error, in case anyone has any ideas. I am so tired of this happening constantly. Not being a programer myself I have zero idea what the below means or what in it might be actionable. If anyone does, and has the inclination, let me know?

I have a 2017 macbook pro. The 11.5 update did not fix it for me. So tired of sending a daily report to Apple. I have done it so much I have started writing amusing notes in the error reports. Sad/funny, I guess.
This made me smile, I do this sometimes too! Usually ending a message 'Best Wishes and Warm Regards' just on the off chance the person who sees it also watched Schitts Creek!

Waiting for my Dad to update his 2017 imac to 11.5 from 11.4, but I don't hold out much hope.

Last night I spoke to a friend who actually understands these kernel panic errors. It appears this is an OS bug related to the internal SSD. The line number of the problem code is apparently included in the error, but only Apple can access the source code obviously. I would recommend everyone here start submitting this bug to Apple in a formal manner, or getting them on the phone about it.

Note. I did a test last night and unplugged all my peripherals, to see if I could confirm it was the internal SSD. And I woke up to a blinking folder with a question mark, so I feel pretty confident in my friend's assessment that it's the internal SSD, not a peripheral drive or a dongle or anything like that.

I'm calling Apple first thing Monday morning.

Other folks might also find this informative. Didn't work for me because I didn't have the specific kext file, but might work for someone.

Update: I have now spoken to Apple support twice, and today was escalated to a senior engineer. After resetting my user permissions the machine still had the same kernel panic error. The lower level tech tried to get me to erase my drive and suggested that I needed to replace the SSD before moving forward. I pushed back on that because I didn't feel like it was conclusive that a hardware switch would fix things. That's when I got sent to the senior engineer.

Tonight I am supposed to boot in safe mode and see if the panic occurs there. Apparently this will determine whether it is a software or hardware problem. The engineers have logs from my machine and the error itself -- though who does the error get submitted to every day if not these people -- and they will apparently have something to say on Monday. I will let you-all know what they say.

Has anyone found a reliable workaround or should I just wait it out till 11.5 and hope that works for me?

snip

For the last three OS versions my late 2015 iMac has had nightly kernel panics as long as I have an external monitor connected. It was diagnosed by an authorized Apple repair business as needing new motherboard. Now that I see this I'm not so sure. Their initial guess was third party RAM. Who knows for sure? But I elected not to spend almost $800.00 on a new motherboard.

Any news on that with MacOS 11.6?
I am still having the same issue on 11.6 on Apple MacBook Air with M1 chip.
Brand new just got it for 1 day. Previous MacBook Pro 15 2019 was suffering the same issue. And on that laptop I went on macOS 12 beta and suffered the same issue. I don’t think a fix is coming anytime soon
