Always good to have competition. Quest will only help to improve Apple Vision. The biggest benefit of Quest is the price. Hopefully Apple will be able to bring down the price in the future.

Well if Zuck says it then it must be true, he can’t possibly be biased towards his own companies product can he?

I'm just shocked either company thinks this is a market worth investing in. I'd much rather have glasses with a heads up display and AR than VR goggles. Anytime I've tried VR it has made me feel weird and uncomfortable if used for anything longer than 30 minutes. (I've tried Quest 2 and 3 but not Vision Pro yet) I would wager as well that we will find eventually that it's pretty bad for the brain and eyes with longer term consistent use. For niche experiences on occasion though it's a cool technology
yeah how do you think we get to glasses that are worth a damn

That’s what Apple vision is going to be. The technology just isn’t small enough. Put on the Apple vision pro without the light seal and you will see exactly what it will be like once it’s in glasses form.

Mostly positive feedback? Not sure about that. What I am seeing is that is a “beta” product and that “future” versions should be great…
No it’s already great. The beta product is in reference to it being too expensive for the masses so it’s a beta to the consumer model.

CEO of company says his product is better than that of a competing company…… More at 10
How shocking, a competitor claiming that his product is better
I liked the video. Of course, Zuckerberg is biased. But he also sounds more honest than much of what I remember Tim Cook ever saying. I doubt Tim Cook could ever make a similar video, sharing some kind of intimacy and comparing the features of two competing products.

Zuckerberg is honest enough to admit Apple is a leader and that people think whatever Apple does will turn into gold. He also admits that Apple Vision Pro has its strengths and some advantages over Meta Quest 3, such as a higher resolution. He concludes that his product is better, although he acknowledges that it is not perfect and that the companies adopted different focuses.

By admitting his product's weaknesses, in my view, Zuckerberg showed strength that Tim Cook has never been able to. And I praise him for that.

I remember Blackberry CEO making fun of the iPhone. For him to come out and give this little review, he must be worried. I thought he said AVP is going to help move this platform forward. And didn’t they just update their hand gestures to replicate the AVP. And it’s 1 week into launch, more content will come even if Apple makes it all itself, but he didn’t mention all the millions of iPhone and iPad apps.

For being $3000 dollars cheaper, he's not wrong.

consider this - my friend is one of the biggest Apple users and fanboys ever.

He owns an oculus but won’t buy the Vision Pro because of the price.

The oculus does provide better value.

It’s cheaper for sure. I feel like quest 3 still need a few generations to go before the display quality is good enough.
Sounds like Apple is there, but have other kinks to work out, price being one of them.
I could buy a $500 Meta Quest 3, but I would never buy a $3,500 Apple Vision Pro. From what I have read, these are limited devices, with a limited set of apps, not required for anything, and still have a lot to improve. I do not even know what I would do with one of them. I could spend $500 out of curiosity, but not $3,500.

If this thing catches on and becomes a real platform, I will then buy one and I could spend more than $500. Still, $3,500 sounds like a stretch.

That would never happen... Tim Cook is a kool-aid spewing robot.... Everything he says is carefully calculated and vetted by countless public relations, marketing and legal folks.

well this is boneheaded thinking.. does that mean Apple has the excuse that Oculus will just always be better because it's always 2 gens ahead?
No, only that it usually takes Apple 3-4 gens of a new product to get it right: iPhone, Watch, iPad, ATV, etc.

Honestly disagree. Ballmer made statements based on his opinion, which was rooted in severe bias as the CEO of Microsoft.

Zuch actually highlights the differences in the products and uses data to back up the differences. It’s rooted in facts.

And he admits that the future is not written. Consumers could favor the mobile closed market system again. Or it could be another Windows open system win (and thus Meta win).

I think your selection of comparison is too early to be done. Don’t become Ballmer himself or else we will be quoting your post for the next 20 decades.

Google/samsung are expected to release a headset later in year. Nope I’d say things are just getting started. IMO Apple entering did nothing but help meta.

Metas real fear is coming. It remains to be seen if googles entry hurts or helps. In smartphones there was room for two. An open model may win but that’s not necessarily meta who brings nothing to the table in terms of a primary service that people seem to loathe.

He's right on a few points, like price, comfort, and the field of view. Other claims here are pretty silly. Quest hand tracking is AWFUL compared to the AVP. The passthrough quality is AWFUL compared to the vision pro. The visual quality is much, much better overall on the AVP, even with the motion blur. And let's not get started on how much better the UI is on the AVP. Overall, yes, the Quest 3 is still great, and for the price it makes more sense for the vast majority of people. But some of these talking points are pretty silly.
Design choices? Cable + external battery is so NOT Apple move. Looks clunky.

As others have pointed out I’m not sure why this is a story. Of course Zuckerberg will back the Quest in much the same way Samsung wouldn’t say buy an iPhone or Ford saying GM cars are better than their cars. Having said that, it does remind a bit of when the head of Nokia didn’t see the iPhone as a threat, which was true at first, but we all know how that ended.

Yes, I hope so. I hope both companies can improve their devices and keep them competitive. And hopefully, a third company may join the competition. I hope Zuckerberg is right and that the market for VR headsets adopts an "open model" (I am not sure if Meta's is, as I have not even tried one, but I hope that the market develops this way).

I would not like to see the VR market replicate the smartphone market. Apple adopted some sort of monopolistic behavior, setting high prices which only became higher, and delayed the adoption of many features over the years. Android phones were competitors, of course, but Apple tried to distance the iPhone from them as much as it could. I suppose Meta would do the same if it could.

So I hope there is as much competition as possible here, and that brands are interchangeable, so people are not trapped in a "walled garden".

Apple doesn't care about the Meta headset.

It is no different than wearing wired headphones hooked to your phone in your pocket.

There is no reason for Zuckerberg to give AVP free advertising unless he is worried.

I would argue AVP will only help improve the Quest.
