People can't resist the Party, unless they're a Prole. I'm a prole--I don't have Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or any "social media" presence. People end up like Winston. They loved Facebook.😬

You have a presence on MacRumors. Are you implying that the MacRumors forums are antisocial media?

I honestly can't believe a person would ever buy and wear these creepy weirdo glasses. I also can't believe that recording people without their consent, be it in public or otherwise, is legal (in the US anyway). What a world...for creeps, weirdos, and the like I suppose.
Laws about recording private conversations vary by state within the U.S., but generally consent is required. In addition, wearers (in and out of the U.S.) are often governed by the policies of their companies, schools, etc. People unquestionably will lose their jobs because of these glasses.

On the social media spectrum, MR is relatively tame compared to Facebook, Instagram or TikTok. That 💩 is bad in low dosage, and toxic in high dosage. MR is aspirin. Facebook/Insta/TikTok is mind altering stuff that unlicensed street pharmacist sells.

I’m not for government interference too much with HONEST businesses, but I wish they’d just shut down Facebook/meta by now. Mark offers nothing but scamming folks of their data then sells it for a profit. He’s basically irrelevant in Silicon Valley anymore, etc.

Glasses are just the start. Someday the whole package will be miniaturized down where they can be hidden in a clothing button.

What does society do then?

Can't wait for the class action lawsuit that will shut this down. You can't record other people's coversations without consent.

It's going to be very interesting seeing how this product evolves. I'm wildly opposed to whatever Meta is thinking about here, this is scary for obvious reasons, but I'm more interested seeing what type of person actually buys these. I, for one, will not engage in conversation with anyone wearing Meta glasses. Period.

Its coming dude. Yes we can fight it, but it's coming.
Some will say it’s already here.
What we'll end uo with is a society where the ONLY place(s) that are private is your Home and high security state institutions.
Don’t look now, but “Smart Homes” equipped with various devices are already compromised. Too late to turn back for them.
I'm not sure that we're heading into a more caring and considerate society.
Such a fantasy…

Someone has though the app is Android-only presently. It searches Bluetooth for the publicly assigned identifiers associated with the device's manufacturers. I think they're working on an iOS version.
nearby glasses (original) is an iOS app. personally, i'm broadcasting a BLE advertisement with human readable naming that has a UUID and encoded url to a non-consent page against the collecting or processing of my biometric data by smartglasses and any AI device. it's just a meager attempt to publicly say, I don't consent to your AI tech snatching me in public.

Video/photography in public is different. You have no expectation of privacy in a public place to not be photographed or videoed. So if all those creep glasses did was take pictures you could wear them anywhere you want.

Meta is just a creep company in general.
actually the fight should be centered on the AI part of these devices. their features will likely entail the processing of biometric data (of others) without consent. that's where the legal standing resides.

Has Mark Zuckerberg been watching Black Mirror again?

What weirdos are wearing these creepy things...

One of my co-workers, but he doesn't wear them in the office. In fact, I'm not sure when he wears them really. I saw him wearing them outside the building when he was arriving to work one morning, but that's the only time I've ever seen him wearing them.

Hopefully people wearing these get enough side eye and negative reaction to realize ... "yeah, this ain't it"

I know this will be unpopular.
But personally if Meta (or anyone else) felt "I" was important and interesting enough to want to "watch" and "Monitor" I'd actually feel nice and I was THAT interesting to warrant their attention.

Sadly I think I need to accept (and I think everyone else here needs to also understand) We, as individuals are simply not THAT interesting to actually take any real notice of.

Tell that to the all the people under mass surveillance in China.

Not true.

There are state by state laws. For instance, in the State of New York, it is not illegal to record a conversation with someone without them knowing it.

I am interested.
When Apple launches some bulky looking Apple Glasses, which they will.
Probably like the first AirPods, they will be bulky but in an Apple way which almost allows you to show off and stand out to show others you have an Apple product.

How do people here think Apple should handle the Audio and Video recording aspect?

I mean, so be of much use to the wearer, the glasses camera's and mic's need to be able to see and hear what's going on, to be able to combine this with AI to help you identify things, find your way around, help you identify/understand things.

Even more so it you were either a foreigner here or you went to another country and were able to read things and communicate with others.
It could be anything from a nice thing to have to a life saver.

So how do you think these things should be implemented by Apple when they launch their versions?

It is just a more visible signal on the device that they are currently recording Audio/Video so those around you know what's happening?
Or what would you like/expect to see from Apple's version?

I have seen at least a dozen people wearing various versions of this **** product. My friend has a pair for doing hair cutting videos while he's cutting hair. But other than that he keeps them in the drawer in the barber shop.

One thing that could come out as a major positive is bullying managers and boss's in the workplace being exposed for just who they are and how they act when others are not watching.

It's supposed to be well known that Steve Jobs was a pretty nasty piece of work behind closed doors, being abusive to workers who did not meet his expectations, even if those expectations were not possible within the time/tech he wanted.

There is a very rose tinted view of the man, and his nice smiles and calm persona on camera.
If there were Video and Audo of what the man was really like and the abuse those under him had to deal with on a daily level then we would have a much better understanding of the truth.

I'm sure many will of course disagree, and think we was all sweetness and love to all... LOL
