My feeling was that they were thiiiiis close to it, but didn't quite nail it for last year's release. You may recall it being rumored here quite a bit, I'm sure that was for a good reason.

I love my AW, but what I use it for I'm not as eager to update as I am with my iPhone. I'm still on my first AW (S6), I would've totally gotten the Ultra, but the lack of a temperature reader stopped me. Perhaps next year?

I feel like the water temp reader would irritate the crap out of me, given that I don't trust seatemperature.info — I find the water to be noticeably colder than what they show :D
Maybe next major software release will add current temp and not an aggregate throughout the night. Hopefully its not a hardware limitation. If I had a s7 and liked it formfactor I wouldnt upgrade to the s8 either.

The AWU is my first so I didn't have to make a decision about an upgrade being worth it. I thought all previous AWs were too fragile and I didn't like the look with a case.

NOAA buoys are fairly accurate from where they are located. But that doesn't always translate to local surface temps.

The surface water temp in Queens NY is always about 5-6 degrees warmer than Montauk. There is no buoy close to Montauk so you just have to do the math.

Even though it would be interesting to know the water temp Im still just going to go with how I feel. The older I get the more often Ill grab a thicker wetsuit compared to when I was a kid.

Yes, most cases are awful, but I found one that I really like. Of course you've no need for it with the Ultra)

I never really wanted an AW until my wife relocated us to SoFl during the pandemic. With the Ocean at my feet I needed to stay connected when in the ocean. Of course since then I've grown very fond of AW's other functions.

Ha ha, yes swimming in the Hamptons was always challenging, even top of summer — I HATE cold water :) Rockaway was ok for a few months/year :)

I'll have to figure out a way to dip the AW in the ocean using a fishing pole, to determine whether or not it's worth it :D

The micro-LED technology is still in the early development. The will start with the smallest screens and then go bigger and bigger. Probable timeline is 2025 for the micro-LED Watch, 2027 for the micro-LED iPhone and 2028/2029 for the micro-LED iPads and MacBooks. So there's probably at least 5 years until iPads and MacBooks will get micro-LED, just enough time for them to adopt OLED.
PPI for AW is 330. iPad and Macs are way less than 330 ppi. Only iPhone has more than that. Which means if they can make micro LED for AW, then it's much easier to make displays for iPad and Mac.

South Fl water is really nice. I lived in North FL for a bit and the water clarity was the same as NY sometimes worse.

I dont think people who've lived outside of NY realize that a lot of the beaches have crystal blue/green water and white sand beaches. Some of the dredging and beach replenishment after the big storms have dulled the sand a bit but Im sure it will get bleached back to white again.

LOL Florida can be crazy. I dont think anyone would think twice seeing an AW on the end of a fishing pole 😂

If I surfed the Hamptons or Montauk early mornings in the summer I still had a long leg spring suit or even a 3/2 if the winds were hard off shore. In recent years the Hamptons and Montauk eliminated almost all parking close to the beach. Makes it tough to get a surf in without parking in town and biking down.

Rockaway has tons of people from the city but the scene is pretty decent. A bit more mellow then most other places. Almost no localism.

It's true — first summer I went back to NYC, we went to some Jersey beach and I noticed the difference in clarity. Also the water tasted like fish :)

I've upgraded my fishing pole idea to a drone tactic :) Fly it off my balcony with an AW hanging about a foot below — dip and repeat :D

I know! We had a very hard time finding parking in the Hamptons, I ended up saving a few locations even.

We were still living in Brooklyn Heights the first pandemic summer, so we took the ferry from Dumbo to the Rockaways. We used our beach chairs right on the ferry, much to the envy of other passengers :D

Lived in NJ for college. Good surf but waters were very different. Surprising since its so close. Maybe water passing by Staten Island heading to NJ dirtied it 🥲

In the last 5 years or so there has been a big push to revitalize the Rockaways. So far they have done a good job. I think the next project is to make a huge park between the 40s and 80s. Currently in the early stages of construction. They did a good job with the skate park at 90 and eateries around the 90-100s.

Yes, I really enjoyed the Rockaways. I really like(d) Cuisine by Claudette, do you know it?

finally the display goat tech is happening.....2-3 years later
Hopefully Apple will push hard this micro_led into its products but also into the industry...microLed is the future for the next decades

2-3 years!?

Apple bought LuxView in 2014!

If you're missing your former home you can always check out the skatepark and surf cam
