it was a waste of money.

But at least we got to see what happens to it at there own expense

Jesus Christ. The tone of this guys voice. Talk about smarm. Ugh. At least the guys who smash crap aren't talking to me like I'm 12

This doesn't bother me because he wasted his money or his parents' money. It bothers me because stunts like this reduce the value of the world. Obviously one iPad is a drop in the bucket, but it's the philosophy behind it. Raffle it off for charity or give it away to somebody who can use it. Microwaving it is psychotic.

Chopping off a cat's legs one by one is psychotic.

This is shenanigans. For some it may be immature shenanigans, but nonetheless. He paid for it, he did want he wanted with it. You don't like it, but you didn't pay for it, so how does it affect you???

Oh get off your high horse, you sound so ridiculous. Art? It was mass produced in a FACTORY and it's a jumble of processors and chips.

It's not art.

Wackypedia puts the definition of art thus:

Art is the process or product of deliberately arranging elements in a way to affect the senses or emotions.

Looking at the sometimes hysterical response to the iPad, I think it definitely qualifies.

Yes because the iPad was made not so Apple can make more $$$$, but to evoke such strong emotion and artistic merit in the consumer world.

Should have called it the iPollock or the iPicasso.

"reduce the value of the world" - wow...not at all. If anything this increases the value of this world thru freedom of expression. A world in which you can freely microwave an inanimate object is far more valuable than a world in which we wage war over oil, or religion or any other reason.

A world in which we value an object over someones freedom of choice is quite scary.

If this guys actions bother you, wow, you need to chill bigtime.

I do have to say that this is a gigantic waste. It could have easily been donated to a school or needy person who may not have a computer.

Uh, yes. By disapproving of microwaving an iPad, I am advocating a world in which we wage war over oil and religion.

Physician heal thyself.

The material progress we've made is due to many people adding value to the world. Building a car or a television adds value to the world, because you've taken raw materials and turned them into something that makes people's lives better. The iPad is the same.

Microwaving an iPad, or smashing a new TV, or setting a new car on fire, is an insult to the concepts of culture and work ethic. Free speech? Give me a break.

I don't by any means think it should be illegal, but I do think it should be scorned. I have contempt for this action.

Since when is defacing someone elses work art? I'm sure Steve Jobs and his team consider the iPad art.

Also this is just ridiculous. People have lost their minds. A microwaved iPad? Really? I hope the idiot gets the current $100 something bid and loses money. It'd be better if no one had bid on it at all.

They won't. Reserve is still not met at around $150 :p

wombat...that is not at all what i wrote, and you know it.

scorn it all you will, it's because of our basic freedoms that you can scorn it.

I choose not to scorn it.

Art is not necessarily the end product, but the statement itself, and that's what this is. The guy is poking fun at society's obsession with products like this, and the general taboo of destroying things that are considering to be hot commodities in a tongue-in-cheek way. You know, being "provocative." It's not original in any way, but at least the way he's going about it is - most are simply beating them up with bats, as we've seen, driving over them, or there's guys like this with elaborate microwave setups or the entertaining promotion for Blendtec blenders from their "Will It Blend?" series. I don't see the point getting upset over it.

By the way, if you followed through to his YouTube page, you could actually find out a little about the guy:

I am an artist that creates new forms of art, experiments, innovates and invents. You will find that my microwave series is the largest most prolific collection of exciting microwave videos on the web & Youtube created by a single user. We aim to provide the most visaully spectacular microwaving experiences in HD Wide screen featuring the AMIR 9000 One Ton Microwaving Robot advance technology.

6] Where do you get your stuff from?
Awnser: It's paid for by the budget of the show or donated by our viewers.

I sure hope that guys had protective gear when he was around that iPad the chemicals if he breathed them in are VERY cancer causing..

As far as the outcome for the iPad is concerned, I guess this is no worse than "Will it blend?" but at least the blender guy is hoping to sell ... blenders. I hope this guy's auction ends right about where it is now, about $700 short of the money he spent.
