Art is not necessarily the end product, but the statement itself, and that's what this is. The guy is poking fun at society's obsession with products like this, and the general taboo of destroying things that are considering to be hot commodities in a tongue-in-cheek way. You know, being "provocative." It's not original in any way, but at least the way he's going about it is - most are simply beating them up with bats, as we've seen, driving over them, or there's guys like this with elaborate microwave setups or the entertaining promotion for Blendtec blenders from their "Will It Blend?" series. I don't see the point getting upset over it.

Its not really art though. It takes no talent or vision. Guess this is just my opinion. The 'will it blend' videos dont claim to be art they are really just viral ads for the blenders. I'm not angry because he needlesly destroyed a piece of technology, i'm just annoyed it is being called art.

This thread is a real eye opener to some of the people here. The iPad is not art. Its a device that apple hopes to sell millions of to make more money, period. Steve jobs wouldnt give 2 craps about someone destroying the thing, unless it was his that they destroyed. They paid for it, they can do whatever they want with it, including microwave it.

If you get sick to your stomach over this, you are truly a mind warped apple fanboy and need to put your electronics down and step outside for a minute.

I like their products as much as the next guy, but its a piece of electronics, not a work of art.

I'd argue that the design of the iPad is a kind of art. Design has to be aesthetically pleasing and this is where design and art cross over. Design is a form of art.

You are right. The idea that there was some artistic element to the design of the device is obvious. But the ipad itself is not art, its a device designed (maybe with the help of artists!) to sell and make money for apple.

LOL @ the guys in here saying "You could have given that to a needy person or children in Ethiopia!"

Next time you plunk down $500 to replace Apple Product X after you've had it for a year, why not take that money instead and practice what you preach by donating the money???

Feed some mouths instead of your Apple product obsession.

Sure it's art. I mentioned this already - art does not have to be about the end product, it can simply be about provoking thought, and that's what this is, although the artist in this case does provide an end product in the form of some kind of acrylic-encased fried Ipad that can be purchased on Ebay. It is art - the guy is an artist, and this is simply one of his outlets for art. You don't have to like it, but it's art. As for "talent" and "vision," well . . . I wouldn't buy it. I don't care about it as art, but he has his "vision," that's for certain.

As for "Will It Blend," I only mentioned those videos because they're in the same spirit as this - take things held so dear to so many people and destroy them. Similar motives, different purposes. (Or are they?)
