So I drove 50 minutes out of town to a dark location to see what the new iPhone can do under a dark sky. Finally got my chance. Native camera in night mode, 30” exposure at ISO 4000. I’m impressed!

Wow. The pictures are gorgeous! They are so amazing. 🤩

Did this without a tripod. Never edited something like this before.

How is it? Any tips?

Awesome. Did you lean the phone against something?

I have a iPad stand which I used. But had to flip it and press the phone against it.

If the weather is good tomorrow I will try again with a tripod.

Light pollution was level 4. it wasn’t like that with the naked eye but you were able to see the Milky Way. Probably the first time in my life

Thanks for posting these photos. I can never be bothered to set up my telescope these days so I'm going to give this a try. I have a tripod and I recently bought a fitting for the phone as I want to try my hand at photographing the aurora borealis but having seen your photos I'm going to be outside taking some photos on the next clear night. I live in a rural area so can hopefully get some decent results.

Cool!!! I hope you do. Just remember To set the exposure to 30”, otherwise the image won’t look so good. Not sure if you use ProRAW, it’s better than compressed HEIF. Both are useable though. Good luck

I tried to use the 120mm lens but it used the main lens instead, this is all I could see over Los Angeles. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yes the 1x camera will switch over. The only way you can use the 5x for astronomy is with the Even Longer app. Due to the magnification of 120mm equivalent, the phone will have to be tracked on a star tracker to avoid trailing of the stars. That’s a decent attempt though

Looks good to me… was this 10” handheld? Or the iPad stand for 30”? How are you editing these? Lightroom or something else?

30 sec.

Edited in Lightroom but new to the app and editing night sky

Amazing picture. I got my iPhone 15 Pro Max last week. But I doubt if I will ever get an opportunity to see Galactic Center and shoot it.

I am glad that it works with a 15 Pro not just the max.
Yeah the main camera (1x) is the same. Cool! Hopefully we will all get more astrophotos soon. The outer Milky Way with the constellation Orion will be visible soon! It’s already up in the very early hours
