But many of you would be reaching for the iPad.
Absolutely 😊 Number one tablet on the market and the universe it‘s not even close, people want proper tablet apps not whatever them so called wanna be apps on these android tablets.

Now add a mini led display and the M1 chip, it’s game over for these android tablets 😳 they can’t even come close to the A12 chip, no chance in hell they’ll ever catch the M1 beast 😎

It’s true what LFC2020 says about Samsung OLED mobile displays, they are just way too over saturated. I appreciate that many people like this saturated look, but for me personally it’s gets a bit too much after using said display. Now i was a bit worried when I got my first OLED iPhone (12 mini), thinking it would have the same oversaturated look as Samsung manufacture the Apple displays, but alas no Apple calibrate their OLED screens to be natural looking like their LCD screens and they look fantastic (PWM issues aside of course!).
Very well said, now do I stay up till 3am to watch the mighty red clinch 4th spot 🤔😁😳

That's not true though as someone else already mentioned.

None of you own these? You go by the YT reviews?
I own the S7 11" (IPS) and the S4 which is the same display as the S7+ but a smaller screen.
The S4 is no match for any regular iPad as far a brightness, and is dim in comparison.
Nice screens, but lets get some people here that own these things

If you own them, it's easy. On paper the OLED is more attractive. But many of you would be reaching for the iPad as I do, and that's just the previous version.

But I like the Samsung stuff a lot, and own their stuff like I do Apple. In a way, it's comparable. The S7 has the newest Qualcomm 7 nanometer and it's pretty fast. Snapdragons are going to be great, moving forward

The question is why Apple isn't using OLED. Some speculate that is a peak brightness limitation, but who knows really?
If someone from Apple is asked, they just go into that silly sales pitch that is probably not going to reveal anything, Maybe they will come clean at some point.
I own the Tab S7+ since launch and I would not assume it's the same as the S4. OLED has improved over the years but neither you nor I can assume they are the same without having both side by side....
I am glad that you are now finally saying that nobody here has insider information on why Apple decided to go with Miniled instead of OLED. At best we can all do our educated guesses...
Also at this point there are too many issues with photos and videos not showing clearly the issues and qualities of either OLED or Miniled to have a clear idea of how the 2 really compare.
The best so far has been this video I posted, although not perfect (he didn't even cover the blooming scenarios or other OLED possible issues).

Again, a subjective statement that does not take into account the fact that a lot of people buy tablets mainly/only to watch videos (youtube, netflix, local movies etc.) and for that Android tablet are at least as good and in many ways better than iPads (more suitable aspect ratios (all), OLED displays (S7+), better file management, especially with external storage, cheaper than the base iPads but with much better speakers, like the A7). And the power of the device is not as important if all you use are video apps, so A12 or M1 don't matter.... Screen size, quality and speakers do...

Also, many people don't care about pro apps (video editing, music etc.), they only want the main google and microsoft apps (plus again apps like netflix etc.) and they are just as good on Android.

So again this general statement just applies one point of view to everybody else, and that might be expected on a forum where it's safe to assume that most people have an iPhone and/or a Mac, while in the rest of the world especially outside the US, most people use Android phones and Windows devices...

As far as I am concerned I like the iPad because of the suitable aspect ratio for portrait use (mainly PDF, but also Words) or landscape PPT files and other specific features that probably most people don't care about like the built-in TTS options. But for videos they are not the best and that's still what I mostly do on tablets. And for the only thing that can compete with the S7+ is the 2021 12.9 iPad, but at a much higher price and heavier weight (120 gr more).
As for everything else, including browsing, writing comments like this, and of course working, I mostly use Windows convertible devices (surface book 2, hp elite x2) or a Windows desktop, because I like to have a large screen, a second monitor, full desktop browsers, full office, plus my cloud services syncing in real time.... for most of what I do...

I find it a bit amusing that both Apple and Sammy have regular IPS versions in the smaller size tabs, and the advanced screens in the 12" versions. A coincidence?

Samsung copied Apple when they introduced their larger variant, but since they knew Android was behind, which is a obstacle mainly for higher end tablets, they priced them $150 cheaper than the equivalent Ipad pro ($850 and $650) to make them competitive, but at this price OLED probably made sense only on the higher end model (we can suppose by the way that Apple has been making a larger margin on the 12.9 pro since the bill of material is definitely not $200 more).
Now Apple kind of copied Samsung by giving Miniled only to the more expensive model, and increasing it by $100 to maintain the margin. This make sense since it's easier to justify $100 more in a more expensive device and it does not move the entry price of the iPad pro as a whole, which is good from a marketing point of view...

Nice video. So basically in many scenario‘s the iPad mini LED screen is actually as good or better than the Samsung OLED one (which is a lot due to its higher reflectivity).

Exactly, mini-led wins in most situations. Apple has been killing it with it's antireflective coating.
Personally I use a matte screen protector on all my displays, not so much for reflections but because I can't stand fingerprints, especially when the screen if off....
If the screen protector is of good quality (personally I use a great German brand) it won't impact the display quality much, but it's never 100% like if it wasn't there... (screen protectors make the screen a tiny bit more grainy... again barely noticeable if it's of good quality, but still obvious when you compare it side by side...)

I removed the glass screen protector from my 12.9 iPP because of the the reflectivity problem - it was awful and I don't care for matte screens. When I used the Tab S7 Plus, I was surprised by the amount of screen reflectivity - it reminded me exactly of the protector on my iPP. I agree that the antireflective coating on the iPad is exceptionally good.

Consumers want the best tech for their buck.

I feel Apple double dipped by charging more but not sourcing the best display available. Even if they don't go OLED for cost reason there are better LCD panels with less elevated black and without blooming. Under normal use I notice more elevated black on the MBA M1 LCD than Surface Pro X SQ2 LCD and obviously none on the Galaxy S7+ OLED. Here's an elevated black comparison at max brightness in nearly dark room (left to right S7+, SPX and MBA M1). Ignore the reflection on the middle screen. I'd be happy with middle LCD under normal use.

I hate glass screen protectors, in addition to being reflective they tend to make the device less responsive. What I use are antireflective and anti-fingerprint protectors. Again, all brands are not equal, I had to try many brands before settling on a German one, AtFolix that does very good ones. I always try to see how long I can leave with an iPad without a screen protector and I always end up getting one after a couple of weeks at the latest, I can't stand fingerprints...

Am not really an expert so i figured i’d ask here, i have the 12.9 M1 already and everything is great. Just wondering since i no longer have my 2020 unit to compare, will websites and other content be generally better to look at bec of mini led on the new one, like on websites with dark/black background, better contrast etc? … or are the upgrade just limited to HDR content? i feel like websites look better but could just be placebo on my end… thanks in advance just curious about the technology that goes behind this awesome display. Watching hdr content is no contest its really way way better than the 2020 version.

The improved contrast will apply to all content. It is the maximum full-screen brightness (1000 nits) and peak brightness (1600 nits) that will only apply to HDR content. All other non-HDR content will continue to have a maximum brightness of 600 nits, same as the 2020 version.

What's the point of the new ipad having deeper blacks if they're made greyer under a matte screen protector? Even AtFolix's product photo on Amazon shows how degraded the blacks are with the matte screen protector on top.

This photo is an exaggeration, this is the screen protector before the 2 layers are removed. Having said that the principle of a matte screen protector is to disperse light to avoid reflection, so in direct light it will look a bit more gray, but at night it's pitch black since there is no light to disperse. Maybe it's not ideal for the new mini-led, but for a normal iPad it doesn't make much difference (definitely not what is in this picture), and for the S7+ it is essential since that screen would otherwise be a mirror.

I have taken some pictures to illustrate. With and without light (it's almost 1pm here). The only thing I have without a screen protector is a 14in USB C monitor from lenovo, which I connected to the 11in pro (the TAB S7+ is on the right). Honestly, even without a screen protector the monitor is not dark because of reflectivity....
Also the angle combined with the light makes the screens look more greyish, if you look in front of it, it's darker

By the way this year Samsung will be launching in addition to the TAB S8 and S8+, an S8 ultra which will be 14.6in, exactly the size of this Lenovo monitor if you turn the chin into screen (92% screen to body ratio), with a huge 46wh battery and, the crazy thing, is that it will be lighter than the 12.9 iPad pro at 650gr....

That Galaxy Ultra 14.6" OLED tablet will be a popular item. I for one will be waiting for that.
Yeah, it will be the ultimate video watching experience, especially being as light as it is... In addition, their tablets can become an external monitor natively on Windows, without installing any drivers, just like Sidercar, but with touch (and sound, I don't have a modern Mac so I don't know if sidecar can transfer sound to the iPad...).

Samsung is smart, they can't compete in terms of power, since Apple is miles away of anyone else, so they take segments of the market that are not covered by Apple (a lot of people here, me included, would buy instantly a 14.5/15in iPad, but that does not seem in Apple's plans...).

Right. I have a Galaxy Book S that I bought because Apple nixed the 12" MacBook, and I needed a 2lb laptop. It's a good laptop, btw (the Book). So they cover a lot of ground. They have several versions similar to the S.
