Is there any advantage to stock that Kii doesn't have? Genuinely curious.

The only thing I can see that stock has that Kii doesn't is the nifty little line when you drag from the symbol key to get to a symbol.

Not a single benefit over kii. I shouldn't have really said off and on. I use to switch between swift key, Kii, and stock. Now I use Kii exclusively.

Oh, gotcha. I was wondering what it was about stock that would make you switch back to. Cool. Just curious.

Kii is really stock+.

I agree. The main reason I use to use stock over swift key was because the button spacing. I think swift is too close together.

The only one thing that Kii is missing that I only know of one other keyboard that has this feature (forgot it's name; it was the only thing cool about that keyboard) is the ability to customize which symbols go where.

So if you don't like that the "?" mark is on the letter "M" you could set it wherever else and long press that letter to get to "?".

It was neat. It also helps substitute out symbols you don't use often or need for those that you do use often. For example, I just don't use "&" that much. I would love to be able to substitute it out on the letter G for something else.

Hopefully Kii adds this down the line.

Let me talk about Kii Keyboard a little bit.

People seriously need to give it a shot. It's made me a believer. This is coming from an avid Swiftkey fan.

Try it. Oh and it's free.

Nice find. Love how you can quickly change settings from the keyboard, and there is plenty of settings. :)

It's also good at auto correct.

Only thing I didn't like was it occasionally lags and freezes up for a moment, but I can easily overlook that.

Another thing I noticed, when you hold the backspace it never increases speed. Could just be a setting though.

Doubt Apple will copy. :p

The problem with any demo is you do not know how long the practiced to achieve that level of proficiency in typing. Also, I wonder if it is genuinely faster that traditional keyboards. Still it is an interesting idea, and I wish them luck (they should think of a dyslexic version for those of us like me who struggle to type - you don't want to see what my uncorrected text is like....).

Hm. What phone are you using it on? I am not experiencing any lag on it.

Yeah, I wish the backspacing would eventually switch over to deleting full words as you hold down.

it seems the point of the keyboard is to save on vertical space, but with all the latest android phones sporting >4.5" screens with 16:9 aspect ratios, vertical space is something i'm just not lacking. the keyboard certainly looks neat, but i don't think i'd ditch swiftkey (and its excellent prediction) for it.

I find that I am really lacking space when I type in landscape mode. Have you tried landscape typing?

Sad this keyboard isn't really making a good impression. There have been a lot of attempts at "reinventing" the smartphone software keyboard. There was a crazy one a while back where the letters were all placed in a circle, and the idea was that you just circled to the letters you wanted to write out words. A lot of those attempts fail, so not surprised by this one. The verdict is still out, but sucks that the early impressions aren't good.

I recently tried MessagEase. I was attracted to it because it used a 3x3 grid (4x4 if you count the space bar, delete and enter keys and such). The smaller number of keys makes for more typing accuracy. Each key has 9 letters/symbols associated with it. If you tap on the key and release, you type the main letter on the key. To get the other 8, you tap and drag in one of the 8 cardinal or diagonal directions.

I gave it a try for a few days including a long messaging conversation with a friend. I was more accurate as I rarely inadvertently typed the wrong letter. However, it has such a huge learning curve that in that long conversation, I had to switch back to a more traditional keyboard.

Using it on S4. Others in the comment section have reported the same on multiple devices. Doesn't happen frequently though.

Just discovered that you can slide a symbol to the space bar to get to it faster.

Kii really rocks. So you can either press the symbol key to get to the symbols (traditional way), or you could long press (customizable how long you want it to be) to get to them, or you can drag them to the space bar (I think this is the quickest) to get to the symbol you want.

Love it.

Weird. Sorry to hear.

I have stopped using this, but just got an email about them updating the keyboard to add a full layout. Basically, I don't think the response was too good and they are having to make is closer to a traditional layout.

I have been using this keyboard off an on for a couple months. I've found that it's ok for the most part, but the predictive text is garbage and it doesn't ever seem to "learn" the way other keyboards do.

They did just do an update that fixed some of the annoyances like when you are entering passwords, but I'm still not comfortable enough with it to use it exclusively. If this had the predictive text that swiftkey has it would be much nicer. I do love the added screen space.

The $4 for the beta is turning me off. I'm interested in trying it out, but it seems the keyboard will take some time getting use to. I'm not willing to pay $4 to try something in beta that may not be something that will work for me.
