Hey guys,

I thought I would give you a heads up that you can enable MMS on the iPhone 2G (Edge) if you have it jailbroken and with Cydia installed.

All you need to do is add this source to Cydia: http://cydia.alpden.com and then search for and install "AcitvateMMS2g"

Once it's installed you restart your phone and the go to Settings > General > Network > Cellular Date Network

Once in there you need to enter the appropriate information (APN, MMSC, MMS Proxy) for your mobile provider.
Note: Some providers might require user and password fields to be filled in as well.

Then restart the phone again

Once you boot up just pop open the Messanging app and you will find a little camera icon there waiting for you. :)

I just installed it and have successfully sent and received MMS. Enjoy!

Well crap... I bought SwirlyMMS AND waited for it to be ported to 3.0 before I made the jump :p

EDIT: It says it uses >600mb of space o_O

EDIT2-- I can't get the APN to stay in the settings for T-mobile. Gah

Are you referring to this app? There is no info on how to set up MMS or screen shots. I am cautious on with it. Can someone on AT&T provide some feed back on this app?

Yes I am referring to that app and I can tell you that it works. I have sent and recieved MMS messages, and I now have the option to send contacts to people via SMS.

As for the setup. It's fairly easy, install and reboot

Go to Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network

Fill in APN, MMSC, MMS Proxy fields

Reboot

Open the Messaging app and send an MMS

All i see is a APN for celluar data and an APN for visual voicemail. Dont have a place to add MMSC and MMS proxy fields.

EDIT*

My bad, i guess i didnt install it , just added it. Filled in the info and rebooting the 2nd time now.............and there it is! The camera icon.

And it worked great! Thanks for the tip ...even though i do have swirly MMS as well but that one also has voice recording and you can make ringtones from whatever noise you record with it.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A341 Safari/528.16)

Yea it works. I can send and view them fine from the receiving phone. But, when I receieve it seems like the server sizes down the received image because it looks real pixely.

can anyone confirm this is working for Tmobile? I have it on both my phones. One says it fails to send but about a minute later itll show up on my other phone on Swirly but wont show up in the messages app...should I remove swirly?

I have T-Mobile and it works.

Here is the MMSC 216.155.174.84/servlets/mms

MMS Proxy 216.155.165.50:8080

and i am using wap.voicestream.com for my APN

Working!

iPhone 2G w/T-Mobile JB&Unlocked

I installed the MMS enabler through Cydia right away. I rebooted the device and input all these settings

APN: wap.voicestream.com
Username:
Password:
MMSC: 216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
MMS Proxy 216.155.165.50:8080
MMS Max Message Size:
MMS UA Prof URL:

then REBOOT AGAIN.

You might have to reboot one more time and it should start working!

It took me about 2-4minutes to send a picture and was recieving great!

The pictures are a little blurry which I can deal with but if anyone knows of a fix or something we can do to retain the quality please give us a hand!

THANKS for creating this!!!

installed and hit the reboot on cydia and now it wont boot back... any help? trying to avoid restoring the phone

Mine has Swirly on it and it worked. However, when i got a MMS, it sent the pic to both my messages and swirly. The messages opened it, but Swirly said there was an error. Not sure but maybe we can only use one of them but dont see why if both have the same input to make them work.

This is irking me.

If I put ANY APN in aside from "epc.tmobile.com" it will get erased once I back out, yet "epc.tmobile.com" doesn't work for MMS.

Help

So I tried downloading it and restarting my iphone. I then checked the settings and I couldnt find what you guys where talking about. I tried restarting my iphone again. Didnt work. So i figured I reinstall it. Tried that and still didnt show up in the settings. I then tried to uninstall the program. My iphone restarted but now it doesnt work. I get the apple and then a black screen. I want to restore my iphone but when I plug it in my computer, I just ask "do I want to import my pictures." My phone doesnt show up in itunes. Help please

Edit: I just restored my iphone. I had to upgrade to itunes 8.2 and then it worked. But I tried to install the program again and it didnt work. I dont know what Im doing wrong.

Your cell apn has to be the same as your apn for mms.

I think the blurryness is because they are shrinking down the size. If anyone who is getting crystal clear mms please share their settings.

There are some people having trouble with this. One solution I've heard is having a custom carrier bundle installed. It seems to have resolved it for a lot of people.

This is great .... mostly.

I was able to receive an image sent from a T-mobile G1, but it was a crappy quality when viewed on my phone, so yeah, I definitely believe things are being scaled way down.

Then when I sent a message back to that G1 phone, it popped up not as a picture, but as a video file, and so the recipient had to click a play button and then wait several seconds for it to show up. How weird.
