Possible work around

I have been having the same issue with calendar entries in iCal nut syncing to the cloud.

I just added a new event on the iPhone. It seems that adding this event caused a sync and now all events that I added into iCal are now showing on my iPhone. :) Hope this works for others.

What service?

I am finding this very frustrating, unfortunately when I exposed my frustration on the Apple discussion boards I got a snippy email saying my post had been removed. Oh well, I guess Apple just wants everyone to be left in the dark.

I am particularly annoyed with this because unlike every other Apple experiment (new iPhones, laptops, etc) where I can choose whether I want to risk the upgrade or not before it has been completely tested in the wild, this one was forced on me. While I usually leap before the reports come in, I would not do that for any item that was critical to my business. So for example, I will not upgrade my iPhone until I know that the new one works as the iPhone is a critical business tool for me. I was not given a choice with MobileMe by Apple and I use the sync features of .mac and the iDisk features for my business as I move between my desktop and laptop. Now I cannot get my laptop and desktop to sync like they did in .mac so I feel I have a worse service than before.

I really feel as though Apple should have created a beta test of MobileMe that included people who didn't use .mac for business purposes before arbitrarily moving everyone over and messing it up. It's not like its a free service, we all pay $99, we should at least expect to be told what in the service is working and what is not so we can make adjustments to our usage pattern until the features we rely upon are stable.

For now I have resorted back to syncing the iPhone calendar and contacts through iTunes rather than push, but I still cannot sync my macs. Trouble is, when will I know that the service is working again when there is no acknowledgment that it is even failing at this point?

Hopefully someone helpful on this forum will be able to alert us of changes for those that don't have time to mess around with this every hour to see if it is working again.

Thanks to the MacRumors Apple Support team!

I set everything up yesterday but absolutely *nothing* is working for me. I opted to sync, among other things, iCal and Address Book but my MM webpage shows nothing. Notice that this window shows "Never Synchronized"...

...and this one states it was last sync'd "Yesterday at 9:31." Huh???

Apple releases a statement via email:

We have recently completed the transition from .Mac to MobileMe. Unfortunately, it was a lot rockier than we had hoped.

Although core services such as Mail, iDisk, Sync, Back to My Mac, and Gallery went relatively smoothly, the new MobileMe web applications had lots of problems initially. Fortunately we have worked through those problems and the web apps are now up and running.

Another snag we have run into is our use of the word "push" in describing everything under the MobileMe umbrella. While all email, contact or calendar changes on the iPhone and the web apps are immediately synced to and from the MobileMe "cloud," changes made on a PC or Mac take up to 15 minutes to sync with the cloud and your other devices. So even though things are indeed instantly pushed to and from your iPhone and the web apps today, we are going to stop using the word "push" until it is near-instant on PCs and Macs, too.

We want to apologize to our loyal customers and express our appreciation for their patience by giving all current subscribers an automatic 30-day extension to their MobileMe subscription free of charge. Your extension will be reflected in your account settings within the next few weeks.
We hope you enjoy your new suite of web applications at me.com, in addition to keeping your iPhone and iPod touch wirelessly in sync with these new web applications and your Mac or PC.

Thank you,
The MobileMe Team

---

Now has anyone's problems been solved? Good to see Apple recognize the problem, and looks like they are working on getting the mac side push as well, although we'll probably have to wait until Snow leopard for exchange support.

Possible Work Around for iCal to Mobile Me Sync Issues

Hi All,

I've been watching the forums and am equally disappointed & frustrated with MobileMe's synchronization with iCal running on Leopard.

Like many of you, I've had mixed success with having changes and additions to my calendar made in iCal syncing with MobileMe and my iPhone.

I've tried all the Apple suggested remedies -- as ridiculous as they are -- reset Safari Cache, Reset Sync Data, etc...No success there whatsoever.

Then I gave up and decided to just enter my new events directly into MobileMe.

I then forced my desktop to sync to see if the changes I made on MobileMe would pull down to my desktop. Turns out that not only did they pull down to my desktop, all the previous changes made on my desktop were then reflected on MobileMe.

While this is certainly not a fix, and definitely a pain in the butt...It seems that you can reliably get your iCal changes to sync with MobileMe simply by adding a single event anywhere on your calendar via MobileMe.

Not sure why this works, though I could spend hours speculating.

I hope this helps some of you...

I'm pleased to see this thread - it's not just me then.

Even if I manual sync, the changes don't go up to mobileme and as a result of course don't appear on my iPhone or home mac (from my work mac or vice versa).

It had been working over the weekend, but it has been like this for two days now - eeek - I do hope they sort it.

I notice that *CG* is UK based. Like for him, synching was working over the weekend, up to a point, but now is failing. I've been able to replace the MobileMe data today with a replica of the current data on my MacBook Pro. But it won't further sync in either direction. Sigh.

Since some USA posters report successful synching, this suggest regional variation?

He's right...or at least this half-**sed workaround worked for me too. I added an event on MobileMe.com, which kicked everything to finally sync to my iphone and mobileme.com and my imac.

It seems to be working again for me now

OK, so mac to mac syncing appears to work for me again.

Also my MobileMe calendar is finally reflecting what is on my macs so I turned on the iPhone push services again and the iPhone is in sync to.

Now - nobody breathe and maybe it'll keep working.

It would be interesting to see if it is running again for others. Of course still no acknowledgement that there is even a problem based on the MM site, so I may just be lucky, which is why others should post here if theirs is working too.

My iCal sync was working, not now

I haven't had any problems with iCal syncing until now. I added something to iCal this morning, it still hasn't updated in MobileMe. This tells they are still working on MM behind the scenes. I hope....

I'll be interested to know when this all gets fixed. I've not really looked closely at MM yet as i just figured there would be problems and I can't afford to lose anything like I did when I first started using Thunderbird.

Funny as I was typing this I got the email from MM.

Various Issues in Cal Sync

I've had the following:
- Events created on Mac sync to MM and to phone. Delete on phone and never deletes on MM or Mac.

- Create new event on phone, syncs to MM and Mac but created a NEW calendar and color!! Deleted on phone resulted in MM deletion but not on Mac.

- Events created on Mac not even sync'd to MM some times. Jeezz!!!

I've manually syc'd to ensure I wasn't waiting just to be sure.

I can't TRUST this at all! Where do you go to report issues like this to Apple?

EDIT
Ok, here's a new one! Entered an event on MM. It won't show up on my Mac but showed up on my phone - in the wrong calendar. Then a duplicate event showed up in the right calendar!! I'm really not liking this.

The calendar syncing is now working again for me. Yaaaaay. When it actually works it is quite impressive. I did a manual sync from my iMac to test it - it appeared on the website swiftly and then I checked my iPhone and it had appeared there within seconds also.

It does feel good to have it working again - I hope it lasts and that the problems are sorted now.

Just email to sort out now and we are done. :)

After removing all the sync data from both my macs, removing then adding back my account on the iPhone, it has finally been working again for me since last night. Sometimes it takes a few minutes for changes to be reflected across the board but it seems, at least for now, to be working as it should.

To be fair though I had tried those steps before without much success so it seems just as likely that apple fixed it.

Also the status page for MobileMe seems to more accurately reflect reality, which is as it should be. I think much confusion and anger could have been avoided if that had been the case right from the start.

When it works it works, a big improvement over .mac at least in my opinion.

For those of you for whom it's still broken, you have my sympathy.

This tells me one thing. MobileMe was no way ready to be released. And should have been pushed back to work out the kinks.

I am having a problem where changes from MobileMe are syncing to iCal but they just won't actually display in iCal! I know the data from MobileMe is there because:

1) If it will change more than 5%, it asks about the new data, and then I tell it to accept the changes.

2) I use SpanningSync to sync up to gCal. The changes DO show up on gCal! Since SpanningSync only syncs to iCal data, this means the data is being pushed.

This means that the data is somehow there, but it just isn't showing up for me to see visually.

Any solutions?
