Never.

It is a Steam-only game after all, and I'm surprised that a lot of people seemed to miss this.

Modern Warfare 2 isnt Steam, but you're right, according to Infinity Ward, that it will be released for the PC only using peer-to-peer like the consoles. No dedicated servers anymore. This has caused quite the ruckus in the PC gaming community, with almost 200,000 signatures on an anti-MW2 petition. Reportedly, Amazon alone had over $200,000 in preorder cancellations after IW announced the change in concept.

Modern Warfare 2 isnt Steam,

It isn't Valve, but apparently it *IS* a Steam-infected game (like Empire: Total War, FEAR 2, Order of War and others). That means that regardless of where you BUY the game, you are *REQUIRED* to register through Steam and therefore have a Steam account. That includes retail copies.

That is why you won't find it at GamersGate or Direct2Drive ... they don't want their sales infected with competitive shovelware.

Exactly, even if you buy the retail copy you're going to be registering it on Steam, you're going to be receiving your updates from Steam and if you want to install it again you'll probably download it from Steam. So not only would you hypothetically have to wait until Activision is willing to find someone to do a Mac port, you have to wait until Valve is willing to put Steam on Mac. Valve is hardly even willing to develop for the Playstation 3, so I doubt they'll be doing any Mac development.

Modern Warfare runs great on my mac running under Mac OS... I have no idea why you'd bother with bootcamp for it. Anyone know if i'll be able to run MW2 under darwine?

Windows

I have a window at home, a couple of windows in fact, and they all work well. The only Window I know of that doesn´t work well is the one developed by Microsoft :p
A Macintosh on the other hand works fine in any weather and is especially nice to run graphic software and such on BECAUSE THE ARE SO DAMNED GOOD at it.

Well, the answer is pretty simple....it's because COD4 runs better under Windows.

All I have to do to go from "good enough" to "best" in my gaming experience is restart under BootCamp. I prefer to have both good graphics AND good frame rates. Doesn't happen in OSX, not to mention the lack of ongoing and timely patches to match the PC side, which is the vast majority.

So if I wanted to be up and running with the best gaming system for this type of game, what would I buy.

I play the MW1 game with a little hinderance due to the iMac osX, so what would make it a great experience??? I have no idea, Im new to gaming and Im old in years. Help an old guy out.

Thanks in advance!

switching over to mac

Hi all,
I'm currently thinking about buying one of the new Imacs with the ATI Radeon 512MB graphic card. I am and was always a PC user. So I am thinking of running parallel windows with bootcamp. But the only thing I am wondering about is if MW2 will run like with on my PC. Can anyone give me here some advice, please? I really don't know the performance of a Mac...
Thanks for feedback

Not sure what you mean by "running parallel windows with bootcamp". There's nothing parallel about it. You are either running Windows or OSX, not both in parallel. You can choose which at startup. You can run Windows in parallel with OSX using Parallels or VMWare, but that won't work for gaming.

Windows will run as well or better on a current Mac than it will on most PCs with equivalent hardware. So yes, MW2 will work as well on your iMac under Windows as it would on your equivalent PC under Windows.

For the less noble of you, there is a torrent out on the almighty pirate bay. However, the multiplayer is currently inactive, it runs like **** on the absolute lowest settings (on my MBP anyway), and well, it's illegal. If at all possible, I would get it for a console or pc, but if you are really hurting for money and need your COD fix, this is almost a viable solution.

My friends keep telling me theres a pirated version out for mac, but I don't like to pirate stuff so im gonna wait

After years of denial...

After many years of denial, I finally got a nice PC gaming rig for a thousand and let my Mac be a Mac. Didn't go the Xbox/Playstation route because I already have a large selection of games that work perfectly fine on a PC. Now I use my Mac for my work and my PC for games. I can now get away with a Macbook Air or Mini instead of a Macbook Pro for my Mac needs. My next upgrade cycle with my Mac will not have to be powerful enough for games.

I play on my MacBook Pro both under mac and windows, mw1 under mac wich is running quite well I think, I also played Bioshock a couple of times wich is running great. I use windows (illegal 7 version, I'm not going to pay for that bullsh***) to play GTA IV, I can't set the settings at the highest quality but it isn't bad at all, and I don't have the money to buy a PS3 just for gaming so it's good enough for me.

I guess that is an alternative, but I'm still gonna buy a good iMac hopefully this year, hopefully they add a better graphics card to the next upgrade, then I will have both in one. Doesn't take long to boot into Windows, especially when I normally play for a couple of hours +.

I'll be honest here, I'm new to the :apple: iMac...running a
2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB
(probably not important) OSX 10.6 SL

Haven't tried Bootcamp yet, I do run Parallels for my Microsoft fix. Can any one speak to my ability to run MW2 on my Mac in November? I prefer a FPS using the ole keyboard and mouse...but I'll just get it on xBox360 if it's going to run glitchy or with terrible graphics.

Thoughts?:D

don't bother if you plan to try to run it through parallels. if you don't want to install windows via bootcamp, just buy the console version of the game.

I don't mind Windows but I don't like cider or bootcamp, so I doubt I'll ever play MW2, which is fine by me, MW1 serves as a decent replacement for my CSS addiction when I used to run Windows about a year ago.

The anti-Mac gaming crowd is out in force on this thread.

Those of us that support/promote even the semi-shoddy ports of Mac gaming do so for reasons other than blind loyalty or ignorance. Do you understand WHY Mac's run games poorly. You write it off as some arcane thing. Us hardcore gamers (yes, I've built gaming rigs, etc.) who play in OS X do so because we use OS X as our main OS and hate the inconvenience of dual booting or having to have a second rig on our desk.

I boot into XP when I am LANing and want true DX9 on something like L4D or TF2 but playing in Crossover or playing Quake Wars, COD4 via Aspyr/WoW/War3 all work pretty well in OS X and outweigh the FPS gain it takes to dualboot. (I dont like interrupting my workflow for 30 min of COD4). To get back ontopic... I doubt MW2 will come within the next 3 months, but it may come depending on how it sells on the PC side.

P.S. FPS on a Console? Come on. :p Keyboard and mouse or go home. j/k j/k

Couldn't you use VMWARE Fusion to use windows simultaneously with OS X?
