Please compare 16:9 to 16:10 screen ratio....then decide!

I've been using the HP ZR24W IPS screen for the last year or so with my Mini, and I am very impressed. I would strongly suggest that you compare a 16:9 ratio screen with a 16:10; unfortunately, most panels are the former these days ("widescreen" simply being a misnomer for the suppliers giving less screen real estate for the money!). The extra screen depth really does make a difference for many typical uses.......

I ordered a U2412M from Amazon. Their stated shipping weight is pretty light at about 16 lbs. The monitor itself is less than 10 lbs, I think. We have this monitor connected to our late 2012 Mini via a Monster DP-miniDP cable, and have had zero issues (knock on wood). I didn't know how good my Canon DSLR's pictures were until I saw them on this monitor! I too was a bit worried about the 24" size in our smallish-office and on our small desk, but I've found it to be a perfect size. I would buy this monitor again.

Thanks!

Great screens are the Eizo Foris 2333 (sRGB), The Dell 2713H (AdobeRGB) and 2713 HM (sRGB). I would not grab the U2410. It looks bad when you put it in the sRGB setting (oldfashioned way of limiting gamut compared to the U2711 and U2713), but it is that setting that you want to use most of the time.
The U2713's als handle 24p playback.
Totally awesome are PA241W, 271W and 301W, but those are major league. Eizo is also great, but besides their Foris, most screens are a tad too expensive compared to Dell and Nec.

blanka, any good recommendation in $200 to $250 range?

The U2713HM just dropped to $559 at amazon, sold by amazon, not 3rd party....USB 3 hub, LED backlight, I have been watching this one for several weeks now, pulled the trigger as I don't think this price will last for long.

It was $649 when it went OOS a few weeks ago and was (might still be...) $649 at Costco.

Bam, OOS again from amazon LLC, it went down to 3 left about 10 minutes ago to none from amazon to 3rd party sellers only again.

Try Dell Ultrasharpe U2412M it is brilliant monitor
and IPS great monitor, also you get zero pixel dell warranty,
specs better than s2440l. price I think will be around $290-300 (amazon)
also got really useful 4xUSB ports, DC for speaker dvi, via. (but no HDMI)

Search with selection parameters :1920x1080 resolutuin, panel type IPS. There is a bunch of nice 23 inch FullHD screens with IPS panels for that price.

You can also buy THE LEGEND* from Craigs or so, you can buy 2 for the money. Still the best generic office display with great out-the-box sRGB display. It has pivot and whopping 1600x1200 resolution, no other cheap screen is as nice for Excel, Word, InDesign etc.

How does the Dell compare to an iMac 21.inch display? is the iMac really much better? I'm torn between getting the base Mini or the base iMac and the display is a big factor.

well, let put this way
I waited new imac since Feb-March 2012 and it was too late, and when they changed to "Thin" iMac I couldn't risk it to be a first adopter.

there is cons of new iMac(for me)

- 21'
it's too small
not user upgradable
not best adjustment options for monitor stand (but I could live with that)
i5 processor
Pros
better GPU
All in one

Pros Mac mini

cheaper which means you can get quad i7 + Monitor+ SSD+ RAm user upgradable
you can choose popular IPS monitors for you needs.
(remember theese all things for iMac base models price, much powerfull machine for less)

Dell U2412M
3 year warranty (+ zero pixel warranty)
Much cheaper
Range of available sizes (23',24',27,'30')
very generous adjustment
IPS
also there is enough USB Downstream port to get rid of you USB hub (4in monitor + 4 in mini)

Okay, thanks. Mostly I will go with HP 2311xi or DELL 2412M ultrasharp...

Thanks for that. I was only really considering the basM dual core <ini because I've survived on my 2GHz Core Duo Macbook for the past 4 years, but it seems like an upgrade to quad core could be worth it. Don't even think I would upgrade further for the extra .3GHz would do much for me.

I would probably upgrade the RAM later on, just to feel the difference if you know what I mean. And perhaps add an SSD drive even further on if I feel like tinkering with it even further.

But is the Dell monitor as good (i.e. bright and sharp) as the iMac's?.

if you get bas model, you save even more (but think about it, if you do any video or photography editing),
I'm using Dell U2412M for 2 weeks and it;s brilliant, brightens and sharpness is really good, I had iMac 20' but this monitor is much better than that. Note: it is used by professionals and recommended

I'm using the HP 2311xi and really like it. Previously had the 2006 iMac, which had a nice matte screen. This HP reminds me of it.

Look for a deal on the HP 2311xi. I got mine for $149 at Future Shop last month.

I'm hooked up with the HDMI-to-DVI-D adapter. I get the black-out screen problems everyone's been getting but that problem seems to happen less frequently lately.

When I hooked up via the T-Bolt port, I had a problem where the video signal got dropped when I put the Mini to sleep, and then the monitor wouldn't stop looking for a video signal, so I went back to HDMI out.

Got one of these tonight while I wait for my mini. Planned on just using an HDMI cable. Will that work?

I highly recommend the 24" Dell ultrasharps. They pivot left right, tilt up and down, raise and lower, rotate landscape or horizontal (this may not seem like a big deal at first, but once you start playing with it, for instance landscape to read a document, etc, you really see how useful it is) it has 4 usb 2..0 ports (which is great, its basically a powered hub now you can hide your comp) lots of inputs (especially if you get an old used one like the wfp2408 vga 2-dvi, hdmi, component, DP, rca, picture in picture) and anti glare screens, 1920x1200 resolution, and of course IPS. They also make 'lower end' versions such as the s2440l that you got, not all the features, but a great monitor with a basic stand.

All around they are incredible monitors. Only downside i see is no speakers, but we all know speakers built into monitors are lousy anyway, but sometimes its nice to at least have the option,

Anyway I hope you enjoy your monitor
