and it is a lot thinner than the previous iphone,

infact looking at it next to the old iphone it suddenly grew on me

I've been talking down the design, but actually it doesn't look half bad in the video! This is really dope if legit. To have a prototype in the wild 2 months before the supposed release date is freaking awesome!

So everything is miniaturized to fit a bigger battery. That's cool.

How it feels
Freaking amazing. As a person who never really liked the round mound of a back in the 3GS, the sleeker, flatter, squarer design is super welcome. It feels sturdier than the 3GS, and much less plasticky. The metal buttons give it a heftier feel—less of a toy—than all previous generations. The closest analog to it would be the original iPhone, which is more square and heavy than its newer brothers.

It feels completely natural up to your face, and the fact that both the front and the back are glossy makes no difference on how well you can hold it without the phone slipping. And because it's thinner, it feels even nicer in your pants.

I like that it's thinner and also looks like it's built like a tank.

I don't like this design at all ... looks like a cheap SE phone. I also hate the fact that its not unibody ...

I can't imagine Apple releasing something that has MORE parts that are user serviceable. They are more expensive and complicated to manufacture. If you remember, this was precisely the rationale to move to unibody construction ... to reduce parts and increase overall strength and rigidity of construction.

I take everything bad I said about this phone's design back. After looking at the video and higher quality pics, I think the design is amazing. LOVE it!

The only thing I still think is kind of weird are the volume up/down buttons.

Definitely not a EVO 4g. I've even more excited for Android world.

after seeing the hole for the headphones i'd say the phone is a lot slimmer than the previous versions. what do you think?
or could they finally have integrated a guitar insert like i always wanted?

They're saying it could be for a dedicated button for the camera. Although I'm not sure how you turn the volume up or down and use it as a quick launch button at the same time.

I don't like that it has a micro-SIM. I was hoping to be able to use my SIM interchangeably with my old 3G.

Is there a micro-SIM to sim adapter? I'm sure someone's going to make one once a lot of people have these iPhones.

I guess when the camera app is launched the button becomes useable.

launch the camera from the screen, as you do now, then the button changes to a capture key,

Don't you think there is something very very odd about this?

If I leave my phone somewhere, esp an iPhone, there is very very little chance of me ever getting it back because it's highly likely someone is going to sell it down the pub/bar. At very least they are going to keep it for themselves.

Now what has happened here is that someone has left their phone, a phone that they would have been told to guard with their life, in a public place, and all of a sudden it emerges in the hands of one of the biggest technology websites in the world, who just happen to talk a lot about Apple products. It's like me dropping a £2 coin and within hours it being in the hand of a £2 coin collectors website owners hands. It just seems all too fixed to me, like Apple intended for this to happen. the iPad was bolted to a desk let us not forget, and the previous releases of iPhones that have been leaked pre launch have always been leaks from factories etc. This just doesn't seem at all right to me.

Well apple remotely killed the iPhone and they do want it back.

If you found this phone and Gizmodo offered you $5,000 to send it to them, I think it would end up in their hands as well.

Awesome indeed! I wonder though if the person who lost this is jobless now ... :(

Anyway, I like the design. I've never been a fan of the 3G/3GS case (you know, the one that routinely develops cracks around the dock connector) so something a little more sturdy would be a welcome change. A larger battery sounds great, and if they manage to give us a nice speed bump like they did with the 3G->3GS upgrade, I'll be there on launch day to buy one. For the third time in as many years. :D

That Gizmodo has it in-hand and has posted video seals it. I hope that there are refinements to the design -- I don't like those seams, for one thing -- but there can be no doubt about the authenticity of this prototype.
