+1. You forget how amazing the screen is until you put it next to, say, a 3GS. I recently showed of my iPhone 4 to a friend and when he pulled out his 3GS, both his and my jaw dropped.

Seriously. Looking at the pics online just doesn't do it justice. Actually seeing it in real life just leaves you astounded. You can read every word on MacRumors homepage without zooming in on the phone.

To me though, the HD video capability seems pretty underrated. Sure, it's mentioned, but no one really credits it for how amazing 720p filming on a PHONE, really is. There really is nothing else I need on a phone, except more storage of course. With 64GB, I'll never need anything else from a phone.

Battery and Screen.

the battery life and what you can accomplish is amazing.

Screen may be the most hyped thing about the iPhone 4 but still even with that, that is not enough praise. It is really amazing.

Rookieboy might have serious cataracts if he believes any 800x400 phone has the same screen quality as the iPhone 4.

The screen, strangely enough. I have a Galaxy S (from Bell in Canada) as a phone I bought myself to play around with Android.

The screen is nice, but the iPhone 4 really trumps it, in my opinion. The whole screen is just razor sharp and bliss to look at, especially text. The Super AMOLED screen on the Samsung is a nice, but definitely not on the same level. Still harder to see outside, and the colors almost seem weirdly over saturated.

The engineering.

Great point. It is amazing how quickly we become blase about truly extraordinary engineering. I'm old enough to remember the first widely-available cell phones, which were only phones and were still big enough to fit a dozen iPhone 4's inside the case.

Only a dozen. Your forgetting the first mobile phones were about the same size as a family car battery and lasted about an hours call time.

In my opinion, its it's thinness. I have never ever, used a case on any of my other phones, due to the fact that it usually adds a massive layer of fat to an already chunky phone. With the iPhone 4, even the thickest cases make it barely larger than the iPhone 3G(s). It's probably my favorite thing about this phone. It looks great in a CandyShell :D

When I read the thread title that was waht I was going to post too lol.:D

A very low percentage of the reviews of this phone discuss the new GPS Chip.

The new chip tracks with perfection, and gives an instant fix. True, that initial fix is just a triangulation estimate, but you can start your nav program immediately (to review your turn list, for example), and the accuracy is great shortly thereafter.

Navigon and the iPhone 4 are IMO as good as a strong stand alone GPS system.

A great improvement over the 3GS in tracking ability.

Pete

Have to agree with that too. I get a fix within seconds and that's not even with a data connection to get the Assisted GPS going.

even get a fix in my house.

Most underrated thing is how quickly it can drop a call.

Personal experience. Not sure if anyone else noticed...?

Screen is actually overrated. Compare it to all 3.7" devices with 800x480 resolution and you won't be able to tell a difference unless you stick it in your face. Like i've mentioned many times before, it definitely is a wow factor when you're coming from a 2002 like iPhone3gs screen, but not when you come from another phone manufacturer. You see, other phone manufacturers are ahead of the game when it comes to hardware.

Considering that's the MAJOR hype about the phone and it's not THAT much better than other comparably sized screens... THAT equals overrated, not underrated. :)

Really?

You people never give up do you?

the fact it is gsm and not on cdma. Wait to all the folks get their wish when the iphone hits Verizon. Once it does people will complain because of the lack of a physical SIM to swap out. Welcome to the world of ESN numbers folks. Yikes. Absolutely married to a device/carrier.

Because only a small percent of Verizon users have no idea the difference, what a SIM card is, and never change their devices. Seriously, the number of people with cell phones that even care about that is in the 5% or less, and they are on AT&T.
