good price for G4 is it Amazon prime ?
I mean, it's only $124 with Prime (regular price is $199). On the bright side, if you hate the phone, Amazon is great with returns. Plus, you can get rid of the ads. For such a low price, I don't mind taking the risk. I need a phone to replace my Lumia 640 since Windows OS still seems to be missing a lot of apps.

I ordered the Moto G4 ($124) and the Blu R1 HD ($59). So, I got two phones for under $200. I should be getting them tomorrow. I will see which one I like better.

Flossy told me, "On a scale of 1 to 10 these are a go!"

I will listen to Floss!

Really looking forward to your impressions of the G4, please.

I don't know if I will like it or not. I don't really care for big phones.

I didn't realize it was THIS big. It's slightly smaller than a 6S Plus.

Does not mean larger screen more value to your dollar ? just look at the tv screen size, 48 in cost more than 40, just kidding, I am no longer 18 years old, the bigger screen the better for my eye sight.

Yeah, I'm not thrilled by the size either.

Lenovo... =T

Should've made the G4 5" and G4 Plus 5.5" with all the other extra features.

I bought a relative a Moto G as their first smartphone. They still have it, however there is no chance in hell they would go for a device bigger than 4.5 or 4.7" .... Their Moto G could probably due with being replaced at this stage, and in all likelihood the only decent small device there is now is the iPhone SE and possibly the Xperia compact.

The drive to make things bigger is leaving a large segment of the market without options.

If the G4's are a no go, I think I may just get two Nexus 5X's for my parents next time there's a good deal. Then update all their chords to USB C.

Don't really trust any other mid-range phone...

My Best Buy has some G4's on display and I just saw it...hmm. A little too big for my taste. It's too bad my G4 has already shipped. I just don't understand why they didn't do 5" for G4 and 5.5" for the G4 Plus. I mean, there's a 5" G4 Play, but it doesn't have the same specs as the G4 and G4 Plus.

There are a ton of positive reviews out there, but there are also a mix of bad ones (The Verge probably being the worse one).

Inconsistent reviews are not reassuring.

Maybe a future software update will squash some of these early performance bugs? I don't know. Or is the hardware just not good enough to power the G4's? Because the software is heralded as the usual clean, light, un-tampered, near stock-like experience Motorola's been known for. Yet reviews are saying performance is stuttering, lag occurs during typing and camera use, etc. So is the device just underpowered? Can software update "fix" this?

As I said, not assuring.

The bezels turned me off, so much so that I really never gave either much of a play when I saw them at BB.

I have Moto X Pure anyway that is quite the monster. :)

I just received my Moto G4. I am waiting on my Blu R1 HD as well.

First impressions:

The phone feels REALLY light for its size (significantly lighter than the 6S Plus); it feels good in the hand -- I just prefer smaller phones, though.
The screen is really good (Not Samsung / Nexus 6P quality, though). I wish the colors were a little more vibrant, even with vibrant mode selected. It doesn't look as washed out as the Nexus 5X, though.
The whites are a little warm, which would be good at night.
As for as performance goes, its not bad at all. I experience lag every now and then. Maybe an update could fix it?
The camera isn't bad at all for the price.
The speakers sound good!

For $124, I would recommend this device for someone who is looking for a stock-ish feel. However, I don't feel this is the best smartphone you could get for that price.

What do you think is a better phone for the price?

Undoubtedly, the Honor 5X is the best budget smartphone out right now. It is going for $119 right now on Amazon.

I've had:

ZenPhone 2
Idol 3
Honor 5X
Moto G4
Blu Hd (Waiting on this one)

A probably a few more ones that I can't think of right now. I am going to return my Moto G4.

Awesome that makes me feel better about blindly buying it. For $120 and a fingerprint scanner it was hard to pass up. I'll get CM13 on it to improve the performance.

Perfect. The phone is a winner with CM13 on it...as not too many are fond of the EMUI skin. Let us know you like it in a few days.

Prime Day deal. The Moto X Pure is on sale for $250.

I'm picking up two of these for my parents. I think they're better options than either G4. Unless any Moto X owners strongly disagrees?

Moto X PE > Moto G4

You made the right choice. I've had the Moto X PE as well.

Well you can get two G4s for that price obviously. Depends upon what they need but I cannot see how the G4 would not suffice really.

I worry about the G4's conflicting reviews on performance -- the processor seems overworked both in general performance and in camera use, and both those areas worry me. You're probably right though that they would suffice, but with the Moto X Pure at that price point, I figured that'd be the better call. It's only $20 bucks more than the G4 32GB version.

Just hope they can get used to the giant screen...!

God I wish we had prime .. I'd pick up a pure for $250 without hesitation.

As for G, Lisa at MobileTech reviewed it and also find there to be performance lags and hiccups ... So something may be awry with the 617 ...

For parents the G4 is probably a much better value, I seriously doubt they care about specs and the like. Most people dont notice such things in my experience like enthusiasts about tech

I actually ended up ordering two Honor 5X's, too, to test out. At $120 a pop thanks to Prime Day, that's an insane value.
