I posted a few weeks back about poor battery life on my wife's new Moto X. And now, it's completely unusable. Reboots itself, then I'm caught in a continuous loop messages of "___ app has closed" / "com.google.___ has closed", etc.; ever 3 seconds. Then randomly reboots. Tried a factory reset, only to get a "Failed to boot" error message. Unfortunately, Motorola offers a 15 day return policy and it looks like we're now stuck with a $350 paper weight. UNBELIEVABLE.

EDIT: much better outcome than expected with Motorola phone support. Replacement is on its way + free accessory. Crossing fingers this one isn't a lemon as well

Something sounds horribly wrong with that phone. Are you sure it isn't an app or something that caused those issues? I've never heard of anyone else having that severe of issues. In fact just the opposite, I've heard almost nothing but good things from Moto X users.

That happens when you try and load a ROM with a bad download of GAPPS. Or a bad line of code within the ROM you loaded.

Did you attempt to root and rom the Moto X?

I won an auction for a Moto X yesterday. Hopefully I like it as much as (some of) you do. I used to be an Android guy, but I switched to iPhone for the 5 and 5s.

None of the above. At least not that I'm aware. It's the wife's phone. She's an iPhone user, prior to this purchase. I loaded Nova Launcher Prime and a handful of mainstream apps that she uses daily (Facebook, Spotify, Instagram, etc.) No rooting whatsoever.

And believe me, I've read nothing but good things about the phone. So I was shocked and disappointed at this phone's performance.

I look forward to the new one being delivered this week and truly hope it's a much better experience. /crossing fingers

Just bought this guy off Swappa. I've used an iPhone since the original one in 2007. Really excited to try out Android!

Turn on the art compiler in developer options. Also enable force gpu rendering in the same menu.

Though I will say that things got weird shortly after installing Themer, along with applying some different themes. Could be coincidence though.

Honestly, if its your wifes phone, just leave everything stock on it. Even the stock launcher should be enough for her.

Just curious if anyone has begun to experience any color chipping on the physical buttons? My metallic blue is start to turn white and I'm not rough with my phone by any means

That's what happens with plastic when time passes by.

My SGS3 has some marks around it and it has never fallen. It's just the plastic painting wearing off, even if you take good care of the phone.

Not just plastic. This is very common on the black iphone 5.

An update concerning my issues w/ the wife's Moto X and the exchange.

- Motorola was A+ with the replacement

- Battery life is 100x better w/ the replacement

- wife is warming up a bit to Android now (a miracle considering her first ever experience was w/ a lemon of a phone after giving up her iPhone 5). Though there's still a good chance she'll end up wanting the iPhone 6. We'll see

- camera still sucks. No other way to put it. It just sucks. 10MP? Perhaps. But horrible sensor

Personally, I dig the phone. Put a better shooter in it and it'd be damn near perfect. Looking forward to its successor.

The camera looks perfectly fine to me. While it's not a great camera, IMO it is nowhere near how bad you are describing. Is it as good as the 5s/Lumia/Nexus 5 camera? No, but it's not bad either. I would hate if the camera was the Moto X's huge flaw, but it isn't. It would be great if the X had a better camera, but it's good enough.

Is there any improvement with that? pros, cons?

Yes substantial improvements in apps that don't have it enabled like adobe reader (I have actually emailed the dev team to enable it in their app, but no response)

It goes from like 15-20 frames per second to 60fps all the time.

I have been using this setting since late 2011 on my galaxy nexus and continue to use it on my Moto X. Haven't encountered any issues.
