While I think Mtl is a waste of money, I have to disagree with you.

You should've checked if your apps would work before the update.

Partition the HD in two pieces. One for Lion and one for the Mountain version. Then use as needed. And no need to suffer in the mean time while the mountains are being filled up.

Linux in text-based terminal is fine... GUI? Just count me out. :p

Depends on which GUI you're using. There are too many to go through, and all of them suck.. some just suck less. ;)

Anywho, I came to Macs from 20 years of Linux (Slackware FTW!). Just got tired of it and wanted a change. Haven't looked back.

But if the OP is ticked about this and is going to Linux because of it, they are screwing themselves over more than their epic fail to RTFM.

Like I said before, PEBCAK, and I'll even add in UBNC. though that could be fixed with a LART... like an anvil. :D

Just downloaded Mountain Lion. Can no longer access Photoshop, can no longer use my printer and drivers will not download. What a catastrophe. My printer is fabulous and I don't want to have to buy a new one and I really don't want to buy Photoshop again. Can I revert back to Snow Leopard? Anybody, please?

To revert back to SL, I suggest you don't run iPhoto as it will "upgrade" your iPhoto Library and you won't be able to use it in SL.

What printer do you have?

How did you go from SL to ML? You didn't install Lion first? You tricked the installer into thinking you had Lion already? The reason I ask is I'm wondering why you want to go all the way back to SL when Lion would probably do.

This is what I would do to revert to SL:
1) back up your Documents folder (and any other folders you care about such as Pictures). If you care about your Chrome or firefox profiles, back those up as well. If you have a lot of stuff in your keychain that you don't want to type over again, back that up as well.
2) make sure email accounts are imap and everything is on a server so I can simply dump locally stored email and not care about it
3) Back up any installer dmg files you have lying around.
<< DO NOT GO PAST THIS POINT IF YOU DO NOT HAVE YOUR DATA BACKED UP ... AND BY BACKED UP I DO NOT MEAN MERELY TIME MACHINE >>
4) Now it gets interesting... Insert your SL DVD and run disk utility from the SL DVD to partition Macintosh HD over again. This is where you lose ALL YOUR DATA. Time Machine backup will not restore to an older OS so you need a different method of backing up all your stuff.
5) Once partitioned, you should be able to run the SL install.
6) Once installed, restore your Documents folder and apps.

You need to install Java. In Lion and later Java must be installed manually.

This should fix everything.

I agree Mountain Lion is ****ing broken. Generally it works, but too often stupid things like these happen:

- mouse and keyboard stop being responsive for a few seconds or permanently, when I plug my Nexus 7 tablet to my laptop
- when I drag too many files too often in Preview, Xcode or other applications, I start seeing the beachball and the interface becomes unresponsive (can't switch spaces for example)
- lousy Retina display rendering performance

Mountain Lion has lost OS X share in the last 6 months.

http://chitika.com/os-x-version-distribution

I saw that article months ago. I would guess about 6 months ago, and at that time SL had a slight lead with ML 2nd, and Lion 3rd. It was almost a 3-way tie. Now SL is ahead, ML has dropped to third, and Lion is 2nd. This tells me people are reverse migrating back to SL.

The one thing I've observed with ML is that it seems to be picky about which hardware it works well on. On some it seems to work great, on others it's a problem.
