MP 1,1-5,1 MP 1,1 2006 10.5.8 - bought inateck kt4004 but no driver. help.

I'm not getting that message upon awakening. in El Capitan. I can't use the kt4004 in Lion.

Just to be sure, what are those settings exactly? Since doing the El Capitan install I have not changed any system settings yet. I've mostly been using filebuddy just to make sense of all the disparate backups and archives I haven't dealt with in years to get rid of dupes and things. 😁

There are other ways of turning off notifications too.
 
My notifications settings are the same as you showed in that screenshot. I'm not sure what else I could have changed to affect this?
 
Hey, here's a dumb question maybe you could help me with? When I installed El Capitan I migrated my user info from an old MacbookPro. Now, in the Finder windows, the machine it named "MacbookPro" instead of "Mac Pro." Is there a way to change that to Mac Pro???

You either have your hard drive named that, or else your computer named that.

First just try changing your drive name, or else change this:

System Preferences --> Sharing --> Computer Name

Or both.

My CPU is completely pegged by many instances of Google Chrome Helper (Renderer.)

I have a bunch of tabs open but this seems weird, only just started happening. Have you ever experienced this?
 
If you ever have this issue, apparently, Google Chrome Helper (Renderer) will go berserk and consume resources trying to manage extensions, some cite Flash as an obvious culprit. I had two different video stream downloader extensions which I disabled and it seems to have returned things to normal.
 
Do you guys know if any of these cards support 4K resolution? I know the Radeon HD 5770 does not. Is there a relatively cheap card for 4K that will work with my rig, MP1,1+El Capitan?

Does that also mean no support for 4K@120Hz video? I was just curious. I saw that my Radeon 5770 does not make it to 4K and I was wondering if there was a viable solution that will work on this old 2006 MP 1,1.

I have to thank you and also EugW again and again - - this MP1,1 with El Capitan is a real pleasure to work with now. I'm ironing out a few problems here and there but all in all it has been great. I would never have known to do this without you guys!!

You would have to spend a lot more money to get 8k video or 4k@120Hz videos.
They required much more modern hardware, that include both CPU power and GPU power.
Users are complaining even when using Mac Pro 5,1 with 2 Xeon X5690 (total 12 cores), plus a AMD Vega 56, render speed are slow, comparing with modern CPU.

For playback, your 8K TV already support playback, so don't bother with a separate player.
 
As GTX680 was mentioned, it has no efi32 Firmware.

Bootscreen is just for 3.1 and newer,

AMD HD7xxx / R9xxxx should be the strongest Cards with Bootscreen for an Efi32 Mac Pro.

Sorry for the dumb question, but does my 2006 MP 1,1 have efi32 firmware? What does that mean - - efi32 firmware?
 
Yes, its an efi32

that means that a efi64 Firmware in a gtx680 just get ignored. No Bootscreen like every other PC GPU.

Apple Ati Cards like 2600, 4870, 5770, 5870 have Dual Efi and deliver Bootscreen on all classic Mac Pros.

gtx680 mac edition on 3.1 to 5.1

Flashed Ati hd7 / r9 have also Dual Efi

apple gt8800 can be cross flashed, there are efi32 and efi64 Versions.

I'm sorry, but which Mac Pros can work with the efi64 firmware? My MP 1,1 cannot from what I understand that you're saying.

I had four, almost five years of good use of this machine. A few weeks ago, the 1tb ssd that was my system volume pooped out on me. I rescued some data but it would not even mount. I hadn't done a backup - I had intended to but as this demonstrated, I put it off wayyyyy too long.

So, I got a new drive, 1tb ssd, half the price of what the last one cost, and I managed to get El Capitan installed again.

Somehow, I have managed to eff-up the iTunes installation from this El Capitan install and I can't re-install it!

The installed version that came with the El Capitan install, v. 12.8.2.3, won't run - "The installed version of FairPlay is not compatible with this version of iTunes. Please reinstall iTunes." and then finishes off with "An unknown error occurred (-42037)"

I managed to find an installer for iTunes 12.8.2 which first balks about expired certificates, asks if I want to install anyway, I start the install and it throws another message saying the package is incompatible with my OS X and may fail. I click "Install Anyway" and it goes all the way through the install and then fails at the end:
"The installation failed. The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."

I tried installed v. 12.8.1 and it tells me I can only install it over mac osx 10.10.5 or older.
I tried installed v. 12.7.3 and it tells me "A newer version of iTunes is already installed." I can only "Close" this message and then the installer quits.

This seems like a trivial thing that shouldn't be happening but I can't get past it.

Can anyone advise how to get a working iTunes installed??

Issue #2 Chrome and certificates
I don't remember this happening before, but I'm getting certificate errors all over the place with Chrome too. So much so that some things won't load at all. Some will load normally after loading the site a couple of times. But EVERY website I visit for the first time I have to click through the Chrome warning twice and then it may not load normally at all. This I don't recall happening at all after the first time I installed El Capitan but I can't get rid of it now on this new install. I opened up all of the security settings in Chrome which I don't like doing but it makes no difference.

Just a trial and error to recover usage on your slept-for-too-long SSD:
Power on your Mac Pro (or PC) with the SSD plugged in. Keep it there for a couple of days of usage.
After a couple of days, I assume your SSD will be resurrected.
I once did this to resurrect my assumed dead SSD. And it worked.

Are you saying to put the comatose SSD in as a 2nd drive? because right now I can't boot from it and I can't even mount it. I tried to recover data from it using Data Rescue II, which was only partly successful. But, I'm game to try it!!

When I ran analyses on the dead SSD and it showed a couple of places that were bad. Whatever they were, it was enough to foul up the catalogue tree and all that.

I'm really puzzled by this iTunes thing. I can't uninstall it. I can't install a new version.

In my experience, I had a dead (not recognized) SSD.
I just plugged it in the PC and leave it there, while booting the PC with another working drive.
After a couple of days, the SSD was suddenly recognized.
I then formatted it and used normally, no data to rescue.

I don't know if the method would work for you, but it costs nothing to try anyway.
