To bring Edge to pre Windows 10 - 500 million users
It seems they were unable to pull Edge out of being so tightly integrated with the OS. Yet, given the poor branding of Edge, I do scratch my head on why MS chose not offer a new name/branding effort

Are we sure they are not going to offer a new name/branding effort? From what I have read on Windows Central and other sources, it appears it is still unknown as to whether or not "Anaheim" will use the old Edge branding or have a new branding.

The more time that I spend with Edge on this BF doorbuster notebook the more I'm impressed with Edge. I've set up a bunch of web shortcuts for the Google apps that I use to mimic some of what I do on my chromebooks and the performance is quite good... almost miraculous considering that it only has 2GB of RAM.

I used Edge when I was using the X1E. It was as good as other browsers I had used.

Same. I gave it a try for fun and immediately forgot I had switched anything. Just works. Then I found some other conveniences as I went. Pretty cool really .

I keep trying to use it but it frequently gets into a state where it uses an obscene amount of ram on my Windows 10.

Same web sites, same number of tabs open? You can't have exact same extensions installed.

Ads or web apps. .

Worse then Chrome? I use chrome, but man alive, that browser sucks up a ton of ram.

Chrome is a memory hogger too but it is at least consistent on my system. Edge for some reason is either working normally or goes into a state where it uses almost 100% of CPU time and RAM. But it is not crashing, because after 10, 15 minutes, it goes back to normal. It happens frequently.

Not sure what’s causing it. The OS is supposedly up to date.

I don’t have any extensions installed on Edge. Have a few (adblocker AdGuard ghostery) installed on Chrome.

The browser works overall the best on my machine is FireFox.

Edge come with Ad blocker now. I'd recommend ysing full AdGuard program too. Ghostery nay have tarnished it's reputation.

With Chrome I turned off allowing anything to run in background.

Edge should have been updated as part of Tuesday patches.

Isn't there a point at which a broswer cache, and history, works against performance? But if there is available memory to load it, that's useful and only an issue if it isn't released when another foreground app needs it.

FF still has an 11 year old vulnerability waiting for a fix. A native ARM64 version most likely.

What vulnerability is that?

How much RAM do the systems have that are experiencing issues with Edge? I wonder of Edge allocates memory more aggressively on systems with more RAM. As I mentioned previously, this little system has only 2GB RAM and it runs Edge surprisingly well.

Mine has 8GB of ram. It’s a Lenovo and generally works great.

The websites I visit are all very very mainstream, but I do tend to open a lot of tabs when I do travel research on TripAdvisor. I have to give it to iOS - with only 2GB of ram, my iPad Pro 9.7 rarely gives me any trouble when I have 30 plus tabs open in Safari.

There's a huge difference between a mobile browser like Safari having 30 tabs open with the mobile version of websites and a desktop browser opening up the desktop version of websites.

I use my iPad almost exclusively in landscape and websites almost always default to desktop version. Would it be different?

Yes, it could be. The "desktop" version is not necessarily the full functional desktop version. It attempts to present the appearance, but depending upon how the page is coded (plug-ins, etc.) it may not be fully functional.

I miss netscape and those modem days. I miss my Quadra 700, 950 and PM8100.
