I just hope by the time they reach Gold Master (GM) iOS 10 they are able to add a dedicated emoji icon on the keyboard and perhaps throw in a number row as well.

Yes they do.. I just tried it with Italian and at first it wasn't recognizing.. Once I activated Italian it started working

At you sure about that? If I understood ok the multi language feature only works with two languages (as SwiftKey) so what happens when you have more than two keyboards? How does it decide which languages automatically recognize?

On the other Hand, anyone can confirm if the multi language feature works with Siri? I mean, can I use siri in English and ask, text someone... And tell her the message in Spanish? The same when I want to play a song spelling it in another language

This would be a good testing for siri. Ask her for example "please buy eggs y no se olvide el galón de leche" that Means and don't forget the gallon of milk in Spanish.

That would be really disappointing, if true. I suspect this only works for QuickType, but have they added any languages there?

But the technology is there to merge two language algorithm into one keyboard and who knows how many more. Best examples are the swiftley keyboard app and Samsung integrated keyboard.

I believe that more than two languages for the predictive feature will end up in a very bad user experience since there would be too many combinations to correct and would be a mess

Most people for example here in the USA will only need two since their backgrounds are in Europe, Asia and/or Latin America like in my case.

I agree that too many languages would become too complicated and create unintended word suggestions.

They manage just fine on OS X, I use at least 4 languages concurrently. My ‘old’ BlackBerry Z10 could do this satisfactorily also. I believe the most common problem of language recognition is not just the text, but also the context. I surf on websites with different languages all the time and yet my keyboard never responds to this. The same is true for third-party apps. Only Messages remembers this preference per conversation. I would be satisfied already if I just didn’t have to switch languages all the time anymore.

I don't think you necessarily need a second (or more) keyboard language for this to wirk, but I think that influences what the second predictive language is. But I think there may be something more to the algorithm for selecting language which could be interesting...

For example I normally just have English (and Emoji). I tried some Spanish texting and no suggestions. But I noticed it was occasionally suggesting German. Turns out if I start typing German it's working.

Then I turn on Spanish keyboard and the German support goes but Spanish starts working.

Now why was German my default? I went to Germany two months ago. I took photos there with geolocation and so on. I may have sent and received a few texts in basic German at the time... So did Apple select German based on this? :O

P.S.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I posted that so that others seeking accurate information can get it, regardless of whether you're interested.

Wow I didn't know this. I have tried typing in Spanish while having the English keyboard engaged and it completely replaces words entirely unless I disable auto correction or if i back space one letter to tell the auto correct I meant to say the way I meant it typed.

Truthfully I'll be ok with two languages and a dedicated emoji icon on the keyboard, hopefully in later iterations of iOS after GM is released then they (Apple), might decide to expanse more leg usage support for QuickType.

Remember how when they first came out with Siri in English and then they expanded it to support more languages. Now the same thing I'm sure will happen with QT.

But it's really weird how they implemented it. Let me choose two languages and not two keyboard! Again, have emoji as a separated keyboard it's very stupid. Everyone use emoji, then give a button dedicated, I don't want to press world button many times to activate emoji keyboard if I have multiple languages.

I'm with you on this one BUT you won't be jumping over the second keyboard.
I choose English German and emoji. You type something in German or English hit the world button to get to the emoji keyboard select an emoji and hit the world button again to get back to the normal keyboard. Now you can just continue writing.
It think it's ok.

They might, but it will likely take another full year. I mean, this is iOS 10 and I’ve been begging for this since I had my 3G. It’s just these little things.

Is ok as long as both languages are recognized in the same keyboard. Unfortunately they don't seem to have any plans to add a dedicated emoji icon.

Yes, you are indeed correct. They confirmed this at this session: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2016/201/. I am very disappointed about this. They don’t seem to have any plans to expand QuickType languages either. Another year without some great multilingual support. :(
Well if it is true then user like me who uses 4 languages from time to time would not be benefit from this new feature at all. Too sad.

Same here. This has been my biggest annoyance about the iPhone by far, since forever. Having to switch between five keyboards (with Emojis) all the time is really annoying. Messages is the only app that remembers the keyboard per conversation.

I have only the English and Emoji keyboards installed, and I get automatic suggestions in English and Spanish, without having the Spanish keyboard installed, as I type in any of those two languages.

Maybe it depends on the phone language. My phone is in Italian , I enabled only English keyboard and I can write Italian and english.

Wow this is so cool I like what I read. In my case that is all I need: two languages (English-Spanish), and the emoji icon. So it means that if I customize it on iOS 10 with the English+Emoji it should also recognize Spanish inputs ?
