Exactly, you just told us your decision. I would agree with that, I wouldn't deem it necessary. I really like the new design/form factor of the 11 inch, so that was probably my biggest reason.

Funnily enough, the form factor of the new 12.9 was my biggest reason for upgrading too. It’s not a decision I regret.

I for one don't have a problem with the OP's thread. He's not asking anyone to "make his decision for him" (don't take his wording so literally). He's starting a discussion on the pros and cons of upgrading. So what? Go find another thread to post in if it bothers you.

Most MacRumors members love new Apple products. They make nice stuff, and new technology is exciting. The new iPads are really nice, much like last year's redesign of the iPhone. You get more usable display in a much tighter form factor. What's not to like? Of course we want to upgrade, even if it's not necessarily logical or sensible to do so. We want a good reason to upgrade. If only iOS were a little more capable, it would be an easier decision to upgrade. That said, I'm glad Apple focused on reliability and performance in the iOS update this year, but now they need to really think about adding iPad capabilities for next year.

I'm like the OP. I keep thinking about the new iPads but my practical side says no. I just upgraded my phone and my watch. I should probably cool my heels for a while. But I haven't seen the new iPads in person. Once I do, particularly if I get a nice Christmas bonus, I might just cave. I may not need the upgrade, but I certainly would enjoy it every time I used it.

OP, I don’t feel like convincing anybody. Either buy what you need and look at the tools available from that perspective or approach purchases via the “life is short, I want to treat myself” philosophy.

The new form factor and Face ID are the only real world improvements until iOS13 does more with the USB port etc.

If these are not compelling enough then save your cash ;)
