I'm not sure, I didn't really notice it, but after you pointed it out, it may be a little darker down there.

Another thing I noticed is that the LED for your iSight camera is now hidden behind the casing instead of having a hole for it to shine through.
its like that on the previous version of the MBP too.. (C2D Non-SR version). You know,t he ones that were new as of yesterday! :)

Thanks for all the information. What about grain? Do you notice any against light solid colors??

Thanks

much better light distribution than the old ones in my opinion. I don't consider it grainy, but I'm coming fresh off of a 12" PB, so it depends on your POV I guess.

Does it whine?

Rich.

No, but it whispers sweet nothings in my ear.

But really, no, not yet. I'm waiting to get out of the office and go home so I can really push it. I'll let you know if anything starts annoying me.

by the by, the heat issue, so far in casual use (installing CS3 while trolling the internet) I'm getting 139F temps, which seems cooler than some people's. with 94F bottom enclosure temp.

I just ran the geekbench on my Dual 2.5 G5 and it came up with 2149 as a score. Sounds pretty low or I'm missing something, eh? Are these new Intel MBP's that much faster??

MBPs are in the 3000+ range

So for a G5 thats not bad actually

that does sound suspicious. i ran it on my 2 ghz macbook and came up with a score of 2652. was it the only program running? do you have a lot of ram?

I just picked up a brand new, 2.4g SR Macbook Pro from the Apple Store in Buffalo. I'm presently using Migration Assistant to transfer all the files and here are the first impressions:

1. The gray setup screen is not uneven the way some of my friends older MBPs are. No light bleed on gray, but I'll check on black after the MA is done with its jazz. I'm concerned because it doesn't seem as blindingly bright as some of my friends', but this could just be because of the muted setup graphics.

2. Packaging the same egg-crate style. I kinda miss the old bright white flap on my PBs packaging. Only difference on the box is the sticker.

3. I humped it.

I'll let you know more when its up a purring. Thanks to everyone for indulging my threads these past few months.
SR? What's SR?
EDIT: Oh, Santa Rosa! Cool! I hadn't seen the news!

Hey, congrats on your new machine and thanks for answering our quesions. I'm considering one myself. I got some questions:
-Heat. Will you be able to reproduce after using the laptop for extended periods?
-Is the LCD 6 or 8 bit? Can you pull the LCD manufacturer's info as described here (SwitchResX). Also, when you do a gradient test, is it smooth or are there breaks?
-Any game benches? If that 8600 clocks up for games, that would be just awesome...

P.S. My MP scores 3951 on Geekbench (didn't shut down any of 100 apps running though) so that MBP is looking really good. Finally a decent piece of hardware out of Apple.

Hey guys, sorry, staying up all night on this forum made me really strung out today. Had to look away for a while ad take a nap.

What's the mac in the background? Are you transitioning from PPC to Intel?

I'm going from a 12" PB 1.33 to this beast. Couldn't be happier so far.

Any heat reports so far?

I stil haven't pushed it in pro apps yet (due to being strung out) but in general use it stays really quite cool. I've been doing general things like web and e-mail and its around 104F. I also live in Buffalo and its a bit chilly right now though, so that could have something to do with it. I always work on a desk when I'm running high end apps anyway, so general use is the best lap heat test for me.

Sorry, not a gamer. And yes, this is phenominal hardware. Feels very solid and runs like a champ so far (I'll detail further when I get some Final Cut going)
