so far I love it. I do see some banding on a gradient. I'd like to tell myself I don't, but I do. There really aren't any better alternatives out there to the 6bit panels that wouldn't drive the cost of the machine through the roof. I've seen banding on some friend's supposed "pro" displays, so I'm not worried. I'll be doing proofs at home on my external anyway and I just need a pocket rocket for rough editing on the go.

I'm really glad I got an LG. I was crossing my fingers for that or Samsung.

Another thing I noticed is that the LED for your iSight camera is now hidden behind the casing instead of having a hole for it to shine through.

its been like that since the 1st c2d models.

edit ahh i forgot i was on the first page. Its been answered already.

Nice!! I'm so tempted to go out and buy the low end mbp and sell my high end 2nd gen C2D...its almost like the same thing out of the box except for the faster video processor and more battery life...i'd have to go for the high end 3rd gen to get any benefit..

Since you are coming from a Power PC processor, I would highly recommend a fresh install. If you look at the Apple forums, a lot of the intel issues seem to come from the migration assistant.

I know some people who swear that it works fine. But, in my personal experience, the fresh install is the way to go.

Just an fyi if it does not perform up to your expectations. Best of luck and post some more pics of the display por favor.

supposedly this LP154WP2 screen has 45% color gamut...that is better than the 2nd gen C2Ds, no?

So far I've just had to update some preference panes (ie - little snitch, mouse zoom) but that's it. I put out a thread about this and all replies said to just go for the Migration Assist. I'll let you know if I run into issues.

Glad to hear it! Congrats, it is a wonderful machine!

Maxmax: Could you run geekbench with no programs open and post the results? I think all we've seen are from the 2.4ghz versions, I'm interested in what the difference in score will be.. thanks :)

yeah i'll run it later tonight or tomorrow. working on moving my itunes over now.

really quickly - i want to free up the harddrive space that the other installed languages are taking up. what is the process exactly and will it be a problem that i've already started configuring os x settings and installing apps?

IIRC, you insert the install disc and follow the instructions for adding/removing auto-installed software. It's easy to do, I can't remember exactly how though, it's been awhile.

maxmax, I believe you need the app called Monolingual http://monolingual.sourceforge.net/
It will remove the uneccessary languages that you choose from your drive.

-Heat. Will you be able to reproduce after using the laptop for extended periods?
I'm interested in this. I find my left hand hurts when resting on the MBP (original MBP) from the heat if taxing the CPU.

I see someone said 104F (40'c) but I'm not sure what that equates to on the laptop surface.
Any heat comparison?

I'm curious, as well, as to the benchmarks. I just downloaded geekbench and closed nearly all the apps and ran it:

Overall score: 3029
Integer performance: 2590
Floating Point performance: 4367
Memory performance: 2166
Stream performance: 1614

This is the 17in. MBP that was the latest and greatest as of two days ago with 2.33MHZ CPU.
(I just ordered a new 2.4MHZ 15" for my wife yesterday. It'll be her first Mac!)
