Why do people want a 4 or 5 MP camera?

The pixel density on a sensor this ridiculously small results in more image noise or over aggressive in-camera noise reduction algorithms. I'd rather have a cleaner 3MP image.

Are you printing iPhone photos larger than 5x7? Are you posting online pictures 2048 x 1536.

The bigger number isn't necessarily better. Even if the competition is doing it.

Seriously, those of you demanding more MP, exactly what are you doing that necessitates this?

Mostly, it just seems like a reasonable upgrade, no that I am dying for it. That sort of upgrade is more likely to happen than a high quality, low-noise 3MP CCD. I only have a 3G, and anything would be an improvement. I would even take the 3MP of the current 3GS, but I figure a 5MP is a reasonable upgrade by the time the next iphone comes out. More pixels = bigger pictures and better print quality.

I take photos with a 6.5MP DSLR, and they look pretty good on 8x10. I would like to print 11x17 however, but 6.5MP just doesn't cut it for that large of print. I plan on getting a new DSLR when the ~20MP are in my price range.

Well I am quite happy with my 3GS 32GB in White and you guys can speculate all you want but I dont think there will be drastic updates at all next June

Not giving the guy a hard time.... simply stated I can't wait for all the other post such as this. I gave my $.02.... I said it would transport you to any other new iPhone out there. My idea is just as valid as the op's.

First of all, you were giving him a hard time.
Secondly, there a difference between speculation and sarcasm ... we all know which one you were, and none of us really appreciate it.

On topic, I really do hope they lose that oleophobic coating ... it seems to have been a major failure.

can't this thread join

the Iphone 2010 that has already been started I am sure we all have ideas what we like but it's more wishful thinking then speculation or rumors. large processors drain a battery quickly AT&T has no 4G plans at this time honestly nothing wrong with the current camera except I would like to see it handle low light better. Apple would make me happy if they do a few things that make me choose too JB

running Apps in the background
folders like categories does
able to theme my iphone they could even sell themes in the app store.
better battery life is always nice too.
FM Transmitter vs Receiver I get far more stations via the internet then a receiver could hope to get!

Definately, 4G, GSM/CDMA/WiFi (so we can get rid of ATT), solor powered, 5-megapixel camera, with flash, fm radio, folders to store apps/documents and a compass that doesn't have to be recalibrated every time. Nice dream, isn't it?

The only way this will maintain full market strength will be if the call reception and dropping improves. The dropped calls in Phoenix is killing their market base here. I have a Verizon backup phone for when my iPhone does not work. This is not acceptable. If AT&T does not get better, The market share will start to decrease no matter what Apple does.

JMO:eek:
Wow......AT&T dropped the ball HARD were you are.

If AT&T can get there network strong enough to support the iPhone to the fullest extent and lowers there price I just have this feeling I would prefer it over an iPhone on Verizon, I KNOW verizon is going to put "verizon wireless" on the iPhone and when it boots up I'm going to get some stupid red verizon logo sitting there....There not dropping AT&T Ill tell you that right now, that doesn't mean they won't drop there lame contract and put more GSM carriers like T-Mobile in the loop though. I would buy an iPhone on T-Mobile but there frequnecys don't even support 3G for the iPhone....

Now that video is done with I think we can expect a couple things for sure.

1. Almost a complete redesign of the OS (It's looking pretty old)

2. Some type of multi-tasking

3. Better screen (To compete with the Zune HD)

There you go, safe bets-sure bets

I fixed it for you.

I doubt much of a redesign of the OS, that's just not how Apple does things.
For Example:
Macosxpb.png

Mac OS X Cheetah
1999

3903385426_8e7e149666.jpg

Mac OS X Snow Leopard
2009

They just do minor changes over time, not "complete redesigns".

About Multi-tasking - They've made it pretty clear that they're just not going to do it. The specifically said that Push was about the closest they would get at the 3.0 release.

But yah, maybe a better screen.

LED indicator is fine as long as I can disable it.

Front camera as well as back camera would be nice... unrealistic but it would be cool.

I also cant see the phone without it having the bezel.

Just so people don't get this ball rolling, the next iPhone WILL NOT offer 4G. AT&T will just be rolling out the first spots of its 4G network at that time. Why would Apple sacrifice battery life and cost on something that the vast majority of people won't be able to use? I've read that 4G's big year won't come until 2011 nationally. Sprint is the only one with 4G now, and it's in all of 3 or 4 cities.
Well, the United States of America isn't the whole world, is it? Some big parts in the world already support 4G.

But yes, I agree that 2010 is maybe too early. Maybe WiMax, but most carriers will prefer LTE. I think 2011 will be a good time to introduce it, yes.

I already posted my wishlist in THIS TOPIC[/size], but I'll post it here again:

- 4G support (both WiMax and LTE, although I prefer LTE - and yes, I know LTE is rolling out later than WiMax)
- Better camera, flash, HD-quality etc.
- New battery (atom-type)
- New design (yes, it's lovely the current design but 'it' is gone)
- Better ways to customize, now too many restrictions
- Better WiFi chip: better for the environment, less power-consuming and faster
- Better 3G chip: better for the environment, less power-consuming and faster
- Better 2G chip: better for the environment, less power-consuming and faster
- (O)LED screen
- Better GPS
- Front-camera (minimum of 3MP)
- Two speakers
- Hopefully HD Audio
- Hopefully HD Video
- Multitasking
- Flash player in Safari
- Please no bluetooth-restrictions
- Solar energy or something, hidden in design
- Better 3D graphics
- More space, there should be a model of 64GB and for sure if there's going to be HD-support
- It shouldn't have problems with water or falling at the ground
- More RAM and better processor
- Kinda something like categories, there are that many apps: I just got too many home screens
- Hiding applications
- Infrared
- Better resolution
- Biometric scan of finger
- An awesome software update (and also more styles, like the LG Arena can have - correct me if I'm wrong - multiple styles: like a 3D-box or just like a normal homescreen, that's awesome)

And yes, I know most things won't come in the iPhone soon but therefor it's a wishlist. Not a "this-is-what-I-expect-the-iPhone-will-have-in-2010"-list.

So...just to paraphrase, you want most of what's there already, just everything "better".....

gotcha....

Well, only half of the list wants 'more' and 'better' :p

Video is there, just no HD video. Audio is there, just not HD audio etc. etc. - nothing wrong with that.

Wow.... Can't wait for the other 5,287 post with the same format..... How about you just wait until Apple tells you what their next phone is? I think the next phone will be able to transport you to any place in the world that another person has the new phone......

i actually quite enjoy seeing mockups. dont look if it bothers you that much
had this just been a specs list then itd be a different story

Stop drooling!! This thread is premature..

The only thing that will be true for sure is there will be a major upgrade 4.0 and everything else we drool about will be washed away the day Steve Jobs talks about an extra "S" for speed and crap.

MMS took bloody 2 years to come to the iPhone.

I don't expect my iPhone to wash dishes, at least there are a few features which needs to be on a phone with this kind of popularity.

how about ""FLASH"" support. Apple, do you need 4 years to bring flash support to iPhone??

I honestly think the iPhone won't support wimax....I would like that but it seams like a different use than mobile phone data usage....To be honest the way the current UMTS networks are being upgraded is totally rediculous! All these speed increasements only to be scrapped next year. I lke the idea of getting areas all UMTS and UMTS HSDPA+ in urban areas first before every ***** brix over 4G. Honestly it would be insane if verizon adopted UMTS....

But I doubt you're going to really want to make large prints of pictures taken on an iPhone. Cameras benefit much more from the size of the sensor and the lens than they do the megapixels.

I think it would be nice when people understand that more megapixels doesn't make a better quality picture. :)

A big +1!

I for one would much rather see a physically larger lens and image sensor than see the number of pixels go up. Of course improving the camera the right way will "mess up" the looks of the iPhone, which means it will not happen untill SJ retires.

off topic:

I print 12x18's from my 10MP DSLR, and they look great. 12x18's from my 6MP DSLR look pretty good as well, assuming I'm not cropping. Unless you plan to print anything larger than 16x20 14MP is more than enough. Anybody who tells you otherwise either has deficiencies elsewhere (lens issues, camera settings, etc), needs to buy a tripod, or is a crappy photographer.

back on topic, since Apple is apparently interested in the camera business:

I really hope Apple learns that to make a proper camera REQUIRES a certain amount of size.

+2. Apple have made the best move by adding an auto-focus lens and keeping the MP count reasonable.

More MP requires a larger sensor. A larger sensor requires a longer focal length. A longer focal length requires a thicker device. Keeping the device as thin as possible is a contradictory goal. You must compromise one for the other.

I hope Apple doesn't cave to "competition" and start unreasonably upping the megapixels on the current breed of sensor.
