I wonder where OP stands on getting some form of compensation for having to wait at home? I always try to get stuff delivered at work, where we always get lots of courier deliveries, but I accept this is probably not always possible and some employers could take a dim view of it.

Look ou ton eBay for a suspiciously unopened MBP...

Unfortunately for the OP the whole "pay me for my time" wouldn't exist here because he is already being sent another MBP. In Apple's time it was no harm no foul because the customer got what he paid for. UPS isn't responsible for a personal decision to wait by the door for a package (though I did too) and they won't give a dime to anyone who claims they took time off work for this and now UPS must pay.

I agree they should, but they won't and that is fact. To me UPS is trash and I only use them when I have to.

Just report it to the police and let them get to the bottom of it.

If nothing else it might shake UPS into more activity.

when a company has procedures for such instances, the police will laugh at you and tell you that you are wasting their time.

police hardly do anything when it IS their responsibility, what makes you think that they would care about something that a company is responsible for, and is already dealing with?

Maybe a stupid question on my end...but is it possible to have it delivered to work so you don't have to take days off??

Hey now, some of us in here are Law Enforcement  And we deal with a lot *pokes* :p

Generally they will request an officer once they are done with THEIR investigation, and if they wish to press charges against the employee who stole, then they will invite us into their little shin-dig.

Unfortunately for most of us out ther ethat have experienced theft through the mail, they'd rather just fire them and get it over with, instead of actually punishing the criminal.

Afraid not. I'm self employed and travel to various places each day. Also my neighbours (the ones I know anyway) are out all day. There doesn't seem to be any other way than to wait in.

As I said earlier I know that all the major couriers offer a service where they will narrow it down to before 9am, or within certain hours of the day (am or pm) but Apple only pay for any time between 9am - 6pm (i.e. all day waiting).

i agree! ups especially coming from usa to canada is terrible. unless you pay for their "expediated" shipping, you get charged insane customs brokerage fees...up to 40% of your item's value!!

also, i've heard of them being very irresponsible. such as leaving high-ticket parcels like cellphones on the doorstep.

lost, stolen...

I had a MB lost coming to canada... sameday right o way lost it...
They were useless, at least UPS told you that they lost it.
It took me 2 weeks and a lot of phone calls for sameday to tell me they lost it...but they said "i wouldn't use the word 'lost,' it's just that you won't be receiving it..." lol
Apple was pretty good about it tho, and refunded my money...
Complain, apple will give you a $50 credit at least if u want a replacement.

I didn't wanna go through it all again so I just bought it from a store...actually turned out cheaper lol

its been established that it was a warehouse person, not the driver.

Has it? That's news to me - it was booked and (apparently) loaded on to the van that sat outside my house for 20 minutes whilst the driver was in the back & phoning a friend. I guess we'll never now who took it but my guess is still the driver - his behavior was very suspicious and he certainly lied to me about two things which, even taking company policy into account, just don't make sense.

I recently had my Apple Mighty Mouse wrongly delivered by UPS. Took weeks to sort that out and many calls to Apple. The tracking stated that somebody signed for it, but obviously it was not me. Eventually got Apple to agree to send me a new package (they had to wait for UPS to investigate the matter) and also received a substantial discount. Then not long after, the UPS guy comes at the door and said he delivered the package at the wrong address. He said he remembered where he delivered it and the people almost didn't want to return the package to him. I reluctantly agree to receive this sealed bag. When I open it, I see that the box of the Mighty Mouse is tattered. Those dishonest folks played with my gear! Because everything lasted such a long time, I simply checked if the mouse was OK and didn't make anymore fuss about it. I did receive the discount from Apple, 30 euros.

i still dont understand how you think it's driver's fault... it might've been booked onto the van, but how do you know it's loaded onto the van?

as to sat outside of your hosue for 20 minutes and on the phoen with his "friend"... how do you know it's a friend and not a supervisor?... what do you expect him to do, go there and realizing its missing and just go "meh."?

he probably "lied" to you because that's what his super told him to do, since he probably never gone thru public relation trainings

Well in any event UPS is at fault, what person or persons perpetrated the crime, we might never know.

Too true.

Anyway, the update is that TNT have just delivered a replacement MacBook!! :D That's a 2-day turnaround, quicker than the 4 days estimate. Maybe my moaning had some effect, or maybe I just got lucky.

No dead pixels and everything seems OK. Time to put my troubles behind me and get migrating my data!

Yeah, but think about it from the driver's perspective. You've got a box in the truck with a MacBook in it. You want to steal it. Would it make sense, then, to drive to the rightful recipient's house, sit there for 20 minutes looking conspicuous, then pocket the package and drive away?

If I was a UPS driver planning to steal your MacBook, you can bet I would go nowhere near your house.

I'm with those who think the driver tried to find it, tried to call the warehouse, and probably, once he realized it was stolen (but is not allowed to tell you that), made as many excuses as he could to get the heck out of there.

The real test is to see if your replacement MacBook also disappears ;)

My UPS horror stories include ridiculous brokerage fees ($85 on a $200 item once) and one incident that, granted, was not entirely UPS's fault. I was looking into buying a set of full size front speakers for my home theatre system, so I placed an inquiry to an online company asking for a quote. This was the day before my family left for vacation to the Grand Canyon. I happened to check my email from the hotel in Arizona, and lo and behold, the company went ahead and shipped my speakers! And not only that, but the UPS driver, finding nobody home, left them on my doorstep!

Remember this isn't just a little box, these are two, individually packaged, full-sized stereo speakers, each box is about 5 feet long. Each box is worth $300. And they're just sitting on my porch, while I'm thousands of miles away! I was... irritated

So what could I do? I phoned a friend and asked if he could pleeeease do me a favour, go by my place and take the speakers home? So picture this, somewhere around 11:00pm at night, my friend shows up at my dark house, grabs the two giant packages, wrestles them into the back of his Honda Civic, and drives off... he told me later he was worried the police would show up any second :D

I bought him a nice meal for his troubles. And gave both UPS and the online company heck, both for shipping when I never actually placed an order, and for NOT checking the "signature required" box!

Quick scan of the thread and I'm wondering why you don't just shop at the AppleStore in Regent Street, instant gratification and no chance of theft. I wonder why it is immediately assumed the driver or warehouse employee stole the package. It could've been taken by a third party, of course it was still in UPS's care so they still have responsibility.

I've heard this story happen waaaaay too many times involving computers, TVs, stereos, video game systems, various gadgets, expensive shoes, etc., etc. -- enough to make me NEVER want to order anything expensive or desirable online.

I know it's a convenience for most people, and some people aren't near stores that sell what they want (and you can often get good deals online) -- but people should really shop in brick and mortar stores WHENEVER possible. Anything else is just a huge risk -- especially when dealing with high-ticket items.

I still buy Apple software online -- but if it's a new computer or iPod, I always go into their stores.

Doesn't insurance cover this type of loss or theft?

Hmm... UPS isn't all that to begin with. I had a few mixups with them. Ironically USPS has given me less trouble.

I waited home when my macbook was delivered and saw a TNT truck pull into my complex and went straight for the door the guy didn't even got out of his wan before I was in his face... :)
so if you see a delivery wan outside your house and you'er waiting for a pakage - then just go hassle them and you'll get your pakage! :D

sorry to hear about your loss though!! I've never gotten a pakage lost during delivery from an internet store yet... guess I'm lucky! :)
