I just pulled the trigger on the 10-core, 5700XT BECAUSE I’m afraid it will be the last Intel based iMac.

As a home/hobby user I’ve enjoyed the convenience of high-end Windows gaming on my iMacs since the dawn of boot camp. And programming in both Windows and macOS environments. I also love tinkering with other OSs in VMs (which is better on a Mac IMO...from 8-thread i7 to 20-thread i9! *drool*).

The Mac side is my daily driver, I prefer using macOS, and I feel better keeping my personal and financial data on a Mac than Windows. All that on the same computer is fun for me.

I know one day I’ll convert to the new architecture, but not for a while yet. My interests are pretty dependent on the intel chips for now. Probably if they start releasing AAA games on the Apple silicon, I’ll be more comfortable moving over to it sooner.
This is exactly what I want to do! ... but I’m afraid I’ll have major buyers remorse when the redesigned, AS iMac is released soon 😥

Sure. The most important thing about making such a significant purchase is to know what you want and why you want it. Buyers remorse sucks if it turns out you didn't get that you wanted. o_O

Maybe, and if so, right up until a comparable Apple Silicon iMac is released.

Note also that he is comparing the expected resale price to other Intel Macs. I’m betting you won’t be able to give any of them away in three years.
Why would you want to give them away? I run my Apple products until they have no usuable life left. Still running a 2011 iMac without issues. Consumerism is killing the planet.

I had the luck of my work having a 2019 MBP 15' free in inventory. I got it. Sold my 2020 MBP 13' to Apple for $1630 (without charger) and used that + ~$200 to get an M1 MBP.

When I first bought my 2020 MBP 13' in October, the Apple trade in value for it was $1100. Immediately after October the M1 came out and it held. December, held. January, went to $1300. March - $1500. And saw $1630 recently. Figured I'd hop on this as with my work provided MBP, I didn't need x86 availability on my Mac.

Seems to me that Intel Macs are seeing a buying surge recently? As far as what they'll be worth down the road? After a day with the M1 - WOW. The fastest PC I've ever used. Absolutely no lag, instant everything - I've never had a smoother Mac OS experience - all while hearing no fans and feeling cold metal whenever I touch the laptop.

So much for the predictions of "not being able to give Intel Macs away" after M1 came out.
Maybe so in several years time (albeit obviously hyperbole), but clearly not now.

What is interesting about this, is you can still buy 2020 Intel MBP 13" brand new from Apple for $1800. Did you have a high spec model?
Yeah, it was about $3k out the door last year. I traded in my 2017 MBP for it and sold a self built gaming desktop so I only paid $1k out of pocket for it.

I had the 2020 MBP 13' i7, 32gb ram, 2TB ssd. So that may have impacted my willingness to trade it in for $1630 towards the M1.

If you are referring to my prediction, I specifically stated “in three years”.

That said, I sold a 2020 13” 4-port 1TB/16GB in December, which took a long time and several price drops.

The only other time this has ever happened to me in 25 years of selling Macs is trying to get rid of a 2017 MacBook Pro after the minor keyboard bandaids were announced.

Looking around the for-sale sections on various forums I am seeing a lot of reasonably-priced recent Intel Macs not selling.
