Ikennett can you run any benchmarks or game demos to see what the graphics performance is like?

Benchmarking Examples, what software to download? I have a steam account with portal loaded so will try that out but need to transfer things over first... so far all my time with my new baby has been answering questions LOL

Request: could you..

1. run an HD video (e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_FfHA5whXc at 720p) to see how hot the CPU gets and if the fans start to make audible noise?

Not the best test, as my old Macbook (2.16 GHz C2D, 2GB DDR2 ram, 320GB hard drive) with the Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics can play it at 720p, full screen, without issues, only my fans spinning at full speed.

Now, Apple has a site with HD videos, most of them in 1080p. The link is: http://www.apple.com/br/quicktime/guide/hd/
Most of those videos will run like a powerpoint presentation when I try to video them in 1080p. It will drop frames, play scenes choppy, and my machine will sound like it's ready to blast off down a runway.
This video in particular will make my Macbook cry: http://www.apple.com/br/quicktime/guide/hd/bbc-nhk.html

At least you will know full well how powerful your new baby is, and its performance capabilities are. You also get distinguished as being the first person to run a Macbook Air though its paces, and provide the world with the benchmarks. :D

Holy crud that is fast. Videos like that, really makes me want to install a fast ssd on my Vaio TT and somehow get a dual boot of Windows 7 OSX working on it. Only time I have seen a boot that fast on a LV cpu was with a light weight linux like Crunchbag.

Yeah, I understand that. I was one of the first folks w/ a Dell XPS 1640 on my block before I switched over. Most of my time was spent running demos w/ the new 1gb ati card. Anything from steam would cool to know how it runs. I know a lot of videos exist on youtube of mw2 running pretty cleanly on a macbook air of the previous gen.

That BBC clip plays 100% no issues... just takes a fair amount of time to download on my connection while also downloading a movie from itunes.

Just run the battery down to empty.. forced sleep and it is reporting 1:15 to full now plugged in. Also had an older version of itunes installed so updating that and 4 other things... including MacBook Air (Late 2010) update that fixes some bugs with iMovie and waking from sleep using external display.

My rev b SSD handles that vid perfectly, without a hiccup.

Haven't followed this thread but just asking that could you install Windows in it and download GPU-Z so we can see is the 320M running at default clocks or is it underclocked?

here is some results for you.

new vs rev b SSd

Thanks for this. I have a 1.6Ghz RevB with SSD - and I've been wondering how the 11" model will stack up.

The CPU is obviously less powerful, but glad to see the speedy SSD pretty much makes up for it!

Still crummy about no blacklit keyboard though. :(

How is the screen on the new macbook air?

The IPS screens on the new Macbook Pros are absolutely gorgeous. Apple really hyped that those were IPS screens.

I see no mention of IPS screens in the new Macbook Airs. I really hope that the screens are of similar quality because the Macbook Pros (especially the 15 in) have lust-worthy displays :D
