No, they were ment to run a version of Linux off of a 4 gig or so flash drive. Non 3rd world people started buying them and a new market was formed.

yea, that i know, and thats what the netbook was meant for...

so fail on the manufacturers part to try to push it into the commercial market with windows.....

i know netbooks made them a lot of $$$, but they could have made a longer lasting product if they thought out the whole usage of netbooks...

Yea, now I understand what you are saying...

When I got my iPad I retired my HP 110 netbook and hadn't used it since.

Today, I had some free time and wanted to try out the latest build of MeeGo. For web browsing the HP mini 110 with MeeGo installed smoked the iPad, it wasn't even close. I didn't expect the HP mini to be that fast.

That being said, the battery life of the iPad is almost 2x that of the HP mini, and I do prefer the touch interface to the crappy small keyboard of the HP, however for the 'full web' browsing experience, and speed I'm tempted to say the HP wins.

true, i saw the meego in a magazine once and it looked pretty promising...
you see, that totally explains the problem of netbooks is not the hardware, but the OS, like i said in the original post:)
