My room is cream (magnolia) and darkish green, with all furniture being beech or some other light coloured wood.

I would love to do this, we probably have a ton of beech wood in our workshop too, still, drilling all the holes would be such a pain...

I've got to go find the rivet gun, I could be gone for days :p

riveting all the loose parts that are being held by screws

Seriously? It is illegal to take a computer you own and build another computer from it?

I didn't know putting OSX on a PC was "illegal".

just every other thread that discusses hackintoshes gets locked or wastlanded

why are we allowed to talk about disregarding the eula/software piracy when it comes to iphone and ipt but not for hackintoshes?

seriously i want an answer to this. if one is ok then both should or none at all allowed on forums

Hackintoshes are not properly illegal, just iLlegal :D

Its like me running Vista Home Basic through Parallels, its just what the lisence says. You are not gonna get a prison sentance for that are you? 20 years for running Vista on Parallels! And you, who walked to fast, 5 years! :D

Because life is very hypocritical, I've said it once before, please, can the moral judgement on OSX86 be saved for another thread, I just want to show updates on the casing side of the project, nothing more.

On a lighter note, I received a whole ton of old hardware from work, plan on sifting through it to see if i can use any of it, got yet another computer case I can hack up and use for parts too :D

ADD: (The riveting when fine by the way, all loose parts have been riveted :D)

This has been disscussed a few times. Apparently hackintoshes are illegal because you hacking OSX and and jailbreak is just modifying an iPhone.
I think that's the explanation I got.

For the record, I don't think discussion of "modifying" an iPhone should be allowed on MR.

Jailbreaking and Hackintoshes are as illegal as each other, but I think there is nothing wrong with ether of them, as long as you dont pirate OS X.

Technically they are both "illegal" thanks to lisencing agreements.

I should've just said I was installing XP shouldn't I...

Then face the barrage of people saying "OMFG NOT THE WINDOEZ, YOU DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO PUT A APPLE LOGOZ ON THERE", or the ironic "Just install OSX86 on it, don't bother with XP"

Can't bloody win on here...

Look, I'm interested in seeing how this project progresses, and I think the case itself is a neat idea. But you really have no grounds to complain that people are pointing out what you're going to be doing is illegal. It's like building a fantastic lock-picking tool which you're going to use to rob a bank - yes, it's cool, and I'm amazed you built it. But you're still going to use it to break the law.

So people will whine and bitch at you about it, and really - you kinda deserve it. But keep building the case, it's coming along nicely, I wanna see the finished result!

i would like to have one of the MR gods give us an explanation as I am confsed tbh

i dont think the discussion is about that, but rather the inconsistency i feel there is when we can talk about jailbreaking iphones and ipods and even get around the 20 ugprade fee....essentially pirating the apps that apple wants us to pay for...like os x

with that said, i am interested in your project. keep it up

Basically, the user agreement for both OSX and iPhones says you cant mod stuff/hack stuff, which is the only thing "illegal".

Nice work, can't wait to see the final results. Also, I don't know how well the hardware is going to run Leopard, my macbook pro 2.4ghz core 2 duo w/ 4gb ram is not the fastest w/ leopard.

Let's keep those pics/updates comin! I like your project a lot. You seem very creative. I'm sorry that your thread was briefly hijacked by the "it's illegal" folks. You've already said that you were buying an official copy of OS X from Apple, so my vote is that you are morally correct even though you recognize that you are breaking the law. Without rekindling the debate, people should realize that morality, the law, and capitalism don't always go hand in hand. Fight the good fight. Love the xMac Project.

To clarify, he is not breaking the "law". No where in the laws of his city does it say "you cannot install OSX onto a computer that was not built by Apple." (although, I'm fairly certain it does mention something about copyrights ,but thats an entirely different issue if he is actually buying his own copy). Rather, he is violating the "EULA", or end user license agreement, held with Apple. That is grounds for a civil charge, not criminal.

For the record, violating a license agreement is against the law. Further, civil violations are just as much "law" as criminal violations, and common law is just as much "law" as statutory law.

Back to the pictures please?

You're breaking a contract with Apple, not violating a state or federal law. They can pursue you, the district attorney won't. I'm not going to argue this, but I'm also not wrong

Finished arguing?

Good.

Tommorow I'll start working on the acrylic board, as that seems to be one of the only things I can do untill my dad can start work on the front panel (he's given it a estimate of next week )

New TV should be coming monday as well (I bought it for my 360 and this project) so I best get a move on eh :p

Noticed the hard drive holder thingy needs another rivet, it isn't quite secure on the bottom, bends a little bit.

All is going to plan

Just to clarify, I work full time, so forgive me if I can't do this project every evening :p

Also, found I can do the apple light up logo thingy, there is just about enough room for some LED's to be mounted, I'm hoping that can begin tommorow too....

Thanks, but no thanks, a main point of this project is to try to use parts I already have, and secretly, I prefer tray loading to slot loading, there's something I don't quite trust about slot loading :p

Plus isn't it a laptop IDE connection? Or does that make no difference?
