Yeah no progress, again....

I'm beginning to give up on this project, it's been sat doing nothing on my desk for a month (?) now, my dad seems pretty intent on doing projects for his friends rather than me, I even offered to pay him £50 if it would mean he'd actually start it, he declined, saying he's really busy (whilst watching smallville...)

My dad is the same he will do it for himself or friends but anytime you want it he won't do it. But if you want to buy one he'll say i can make for you but I just don't listen anymore.

Why not try and get someone else to do it?

To be honest, I can do it myself, but it'll look so unprofessional, I really want mine to look good, I see so many computer projects that are let down because people do the DIY approach and it looks horrible...

Yeah, someone sent me a link to a website that would make the front for like £80+ but my dad said that was a rip off and that he will get around to it.... one day.

Up to you. But personally I prefer to see projects that people did all by themselves, rather than getting other people do do the tricky bits.

You'll feel so much more pride if you do it yourselves. It might look terrible but *you* made it.

Also, you know all these people highly skilled in machining? They had to start somewhere too, probably when they were the same age as you, and sure they made some real stinkers. Without making stinkers, you'll never get to be as good.

My girlfriend asks me how come I got to be such a good cook, and my answer is that I burnt a *lot* of food. I've been cooking 15 years and I still sometimes dump what I've just cooked in the bin. That's fine with me. It's the only way to learn new things.

Right, hopefully, I will have the front panel, my dad has been machining it since 2pm and if all has gone to plan (the metal was bending in the middle at one point ), with all going well, it should be home within the next hour.

Better to be late than never eh :p

I'll post pictures once it arrives home.

Now, I don't really know what it will look like with the acryllic applied (and I kind of forget what your overall plan was for the sides/top), but I think you should spray paint the sides with a high-gloss white after the acryllic is applied, THEN cut out the :apple: symbol using the same type of aluminum as the front and adhere it or insert it on the top center of the machine (or alternatively to the sides). That would tie the look of the front panel together with the rest of the machine and it would add some visual interest in place of a glowing :apple:.

Just a suggestion.:)

Wouldn't call it a "hell of a interest" as much as slow work weeks recently. That and I just have a soft spot in my heart for do-it-yourself projects, especially those where you are creating or modifying something in a new way.

Sorry if my suggestion was confusing. I'm no good with photoshop, so I can't show you. But, essentially I was saying to (1) paint the whole machine, except for the front, in a glossy white. Then, (2) cut out two aluminum ":apple:" symbols, and glue them to the sides of the machine, centered. The thinner the aluminum, the easier this will be for you.

:p fair enough, my dad asked if I wanted to have apple logos engraved on either side (on the acrylic board), I guess if he engraved it in, a metal logo could be placed underneath the acrylic board before it was painted, I'll see what he says later, tbh, I'm more concerned about getting it all together and up and running really...
