Cases hold no value to me. I prefer the aesthetics and feel of the iPhone by itself. Obviously all experiences vary.

When I got my iPhone 7 I used it naked for almost 2 years. I never dropped it in the street but I did dropped it a few times in my bedroom on a wood floor.

I’m using my iPhone 8 naked.

I have had my X for over 2 weeks now and I do have a clear case that I have been using before I decide what I want to do. A part of me wants to use the phone without a case because it is too stunning to throwing on something that covers up the shiny edges/back of the device, but on the other hand I don’t have Apple Care and will probably want to resell it in the future. Apple has luckily lowered the price of screen replacements to $279 (without Apple Care) from the original $579 which I can live with. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still expensive, but $279 isn't flat out stupid.
For those of you that have been using the X without a case, how has it been so far? Are there extensive scratches/noticeable dents already?

Thank You!
My X screen seems to have more scratches than any previous iPhone which is odd to me. Over all I love the feeling of it in the hand and wouldn't use a case.

I have used mine with and without the case. It's the first iPhone I don't enjoy using without a case as it feels slippery in the hand.

On the other hand, I didn't have any problems using it without a case - no scratches etc

according to the thread title.....

Ever since I got my X nearly a year ago for the first time,I threw an iPhone in a case. I was so afraid one small drop would shatter the back that paranoia made me stupid. I popped it out of the case tonight and realized what is the point of owning a thin and gorgeous device if you bulk it up and throw it in a case.... I’ll never throw an iPhone in a case again.... and am half mad at myself I decided the x was the first time to run a case... rest assured in a month or so when the new iPhone arrives it won’t be going in a case!

When I got my iPhone 7 almost 2 years ago I got it with out a case and I treated it better with out the case. I even dropped it a few times in my bedroom wooden floor. I don’t even have a case for my iPhone 8 when I’m out on the streets I grab the phone like I’m holding a baseball with a good grip.

The minimum I would use is a D-brand skin. That's what I'm using on my Oneplus 3 and so far it has worked well. The skin is mainly for looks and to give the phone some much needed grip. Phones these days are almost as slippery as soap so I would not want to use one without some sort of grip-improvement, whether it's a skin or a case.

Removing the sandstone back from the Oneplus phones was the biggest blunder they made. It was a genuine differentiator and everyone who felt it loved how it feels. More manufacturers should try something grippy in the back instead of trying to peddle slick glass and metal.

When I get the next gen iPhone X I'm just going to slap a skin on it, should be fine.

I go full naked with all my phones and have done for 20+ years, but I use a leather holster to protect my devices. I used to use a Vega Holster but now get custom ones made.

I go naked but I have a case for when I go somewhere where I may drop it (e.g. anywhere where I’m drunk)

You don’t have to be either a naked or case person. You can be both.

I’ve gone caseless on all my phones and have to say that they always suffer from abrasions. But the X is far and away in the best shape after a year’s use.

Everyone has a choice on this. For me the X is far to slippery to use without something that give me a better grip. For people who are klutzes, i would always suggest a case. I have not dropped my phone in about three years.
