id gess the macmin is held back as it was undercutting the imacs/macpros
Perhaps, but its one thing removing the quad core option (which they did) and another not updating it since 2014. I think the Mini serves a demographic and it's a great little computer - too bad Apple doesn't think so :(

I find this thread really funny. Why does it upset you that they don't release new hardware? You buy a product, Apple actually do a pretty good job on software updates. That's it really.

I have a Bosch washing machine. It really doesn't upset me that they aren't releasing a new model next year.

To be fair the innovation and improvement pace in the washing machine industry isn't the same as in the personal computing industry. Then there's also the fact that the washing machine does essentially one thing compared to a personal computer that does much much more than that. And on a similar note these are personal devices used many times throughout the day often anywhere you go compared to a stationary appliance that is just there to perform a necessity every now and than that we don't even really like to think about or deal with. Kind of an apples vs. oranges type of thing at best.

I know but you are essentially buying a product as is. I wouldn't be upset with Dell if they didn't release an upgraded version of my PC the following year. Apple at least provide OS updates

Between the coasts
other than Apple, that managed to piss off a whole section of it's customers, like Apple has, with it's dearth of hardware updates?

Probably every company, in one corner of its product line or another. Companies tend to put their R&D/new product efforts into places and products that provide the greatest opportunity for growth.

If all you need is a faster CPU or GPU... that's just not what drives Apple's business. Apple sells far more Macs to people who want a computer that works better with their iPhone. Their iPhones are more important to their lives than their home or office computers.

Anytime someone here says, "I can use a PC just as well as a Mac," that's a customer whose needs are focused solely on what makes the PC business so brutal to all the PC makers - customers whose needs are satisfied by the chipmakers, not the PC makers. A manufacturer can't charge a premium for their product when all the customer wants is a box full of parts.

And even when hardware updates are delivered, there are those who will still be pissed off because they didn't get the updates they desired. You can't please all the people all the time, especially those who know exactly what they want.

Just who was it that said, "Customers don't know what they want, until we've shown them?" Apple does better with, "Wow, that's cool!" than with, "Thanks, why didn't you upgrade the CPUs six months ago?"
