In a van down by the river
I’ve owned various 11-inch and 12.9 iPad Pro models, including both at the same time. I got the new 11-inch M4 with a standard glossy display. When I visited the Apple Store, I disliked the nano texture display. Whiter backgrounds had a faint ‘dirty screen’ effect, similar to matte displays, and I felt it was a downgrade from the regular glossy screen. However, this was in Apple Store lighting.

After two months of using the 11-inch model, I saw and briefly used a nano texture display outside the store. I bought the 13-inch model with the nano texture display and used it daily for two weeks, comparing it to the glossy display on the 11-inch. I ended up returning the glossy display version.

Without exaggeration, the nano texture is the best screen I’ve ever used on a mobile device. Text and images feel like printed paper, making reading, note-taking, and photo editing easier. Watching video on the nano texture display is unlike any other experience. It feels like watching a movie in a theater, with the image almost appearing ‘projected’ onto the screen.

The nano display also outperforms the glossy one in terms of colors and black levels imho. The glossy display has slightly deeper blacks but doesn’t show them well in daytime lighting due to its reflective surface. The nano texture display is more consistent and eliminates glare, making it much more pleasant to use. Fingerprints don’t show up as much on the nano texture display, and cleaning them with the supplied cloth is quick and effective.

If I could have this display on my other devices, I would in a heartbeat.

This is a superb video demonstration of the Nano texture vs glossy display I found on YouTube. Very useful anyone who wants to understand just how much it eliminates all glare and reflections:

That young kid does a fine job with his new channe. I am surprised he doesn’t have more subs.

i have been very pleased with the nano. Well worth the money not to have all the glare.

I have seen mention of the nanotexture being better for “e-reading” particularly academic textbooks. Does anyone here have an opinion on that?

Agreed, with the nanotexture, I can have iPad M4 at a lower brightness compared to the mini-LED iPad with better visibility and less distraction from reflected lights. The texture also made it look almost like an eink display with backlit on (and wayyy more contrast and saturation than any color eink).
