You will have the same Multiplayer modes as on the PC.

I'm glad to hear that Napoleon TW for Mac will have multi-player. I was disappointed with the lack of multi-player on Empire Total War. :(

I love military history (an amateur hobbyist, not as professional) but I greatly prefer the military-political wars of the 17th-18th centuries. The great wars of Maria Theresia, Frederick the Great, and of course Mad King George (whose ineptitude and tyranny resulted in the formation of the United States). Plus I love the fact that you could play as the (non-European) Maratha Confederacy in Empire!

Napoleonic Wars is also an interesting period... but there is only so much you can accomplish in empire-building and "world conquest" strategy when your historical time frame is about 15 years. What made the Nap era exciting and unique was that the borders of Europe changed drastically in a matter of months (or a few years) due to Napoleon being able to wage lightning-fast conquests/invasions of his neighbors (sorta like a blitzkrieg-style warfare of his time).

Empire has always had multiplayer, it just lacked an online mode. We have a patch coming (quite soon before Napoleon ships) that will add in Game Center and Game Ranger online multiplayer modes to the already existing LAN modes.

Cheers,

NTW completion

Looks like it has gone from "very soon" back to "soon" on the Feral website. Don't know if this means it will be delayed or what?

The Empire TW online patch is definitely good news!

LAN? LAN? Ehehehehe.... that's as old school as that crusty old thing known as "AppleTalk networking". I remember the days (circa 1990s) when Mac games would boast having built-in AppleTalk networking as some kind of premium state-of-the-art feature. Oh that brings back memories. :)

Nope Napoleon has not been delayed at all just some other smaller / easier to port games have overtaken it, it's already in late beta and looking great. In fact we recruited some Total War fans from our Facebook page and some forums to try out the beta and give us some feedback :)

I just got XCOM enemy unknown today it looks like a big month with Empire Total War Napolean coming next month, Bioshock infinite in its trail, and Sim City there after. it is good to see that the Mac is more than alive for gaming, keep up the good work Feral.

Great & look forward to its release! BTW, just a belated thanks to both you & Macgamer for the interview (linked below), including addressing some of my questions. Some interesting views, not least pointers re the future of gaming on Mac.

Despite also having a PC for gaming, partly due to my preference for easy upgradability options in future, FWIW, I'll definitely continue supporting Feral, esp with these Total War titles. Glad to hear your sales are on the up!

Yup I second this. I've kept a PC as a secondary desktop, mainly for playing games that never did and never would exist on the Mac. But when an excellent game also has a MacOSX version, I would gladly support buying that one instead, as it supports Mac-friendly developers, whose thriving existence means the continued viability of the Mac platform.

Quite agree! Similar approach here. Though in rare cases I've bought both Mac & PC versions. For eg. if my Mac struggles playing a particularly favoured game at higher settings. Viable only because PC game prices come down fast & my PC's GPU is significantly superior to my current Mac's. Also, I've rebought some classic Mac ports for PC as they no longer run on modern Macs.

Things may change later with a new Mac equipped with a better GPU, but I'm in no rush to upgrade until Haswell is out & maybe not even then. :)

I'm not sure how other Mac developers are doing, but I think Feral will be fine. The Total War franchise alone is hugely popular. Napoleon seems likely to generate decent sales, probably on a par with Rome & Empire. If it does, it won't surprise one bit me to see Medieval 2 & Shogun 2 released later.

There are of course loads of decent games left to be ported to Mac, be it newer titles at full price, or older ones on their Legends label. Things are looking good!

Eddie any hints whether or not Napoleon Total War will be making it to the app store this month.

Sorry no clues.

Will any of the "Windows version" mods work with NTW on the Mac, such as, "All in one"?

I have yet to find a major mod that does not work with Empire or Rome so I am pretty sure Napoleon will be a modders paradise too.

Eddeduck:

I would love to be a beta tester...however before you guys do napoleon, can you please finish empire? I only bought empire for online battles against humans, since everyone knows total war AI is rubbish...it's getting close to being out for a year now and still no multiplayer.

cheers!

EDIT: I see now empire will be patched for multiplayer soon! I can't wait. Now empire will truly shine!

Feral announced NTW release for July 3d and preorder is now available. Can't wait but guess I will have to......

When we don't announce a date people complain

Sometimes you just can't win :D

You took my comment wrong. I wasn't complaining. I was happy to see a date as I have been looking forward to the release. I was excited to see it was only a few more days until I could begin playing. However, after viewing your system requirements I am no longer sure I will be able to play.

I have an early 2008 Mac Pro (3.1) with 6GB of ram and a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB. If I read the specifications correctly, NTW does not support the graphic card and I will have to wait until the new Mac Pro is released from Apple. The Graphic Card etc. worked fine on the Windows version of the game in Boot Camp. C'EST LA GUERRE ;)

I hoped the smile showed it was a joke about how we can never get it right :) I know you were not complaining in fact I am glad you're so passionate about one of our games :)

As for your MacPro you can buy a new GFX card for it quite cheaply that will make it massively faster playing games. We have a 2008 MacPro and you can put in newer AMD cards that mean instead of low settings you will be using high !

Have a look around in the hardware forum for more advice of what cards you can buy there is quite a choice, it's really worth it as it makes a huge difference in performance in all games.

Game Ranger

Since the upgraded ETW is going to work on Game Ranger am I safe to assume that it will work on NTW. My brother is also a Mac guy and it would be nice to thrash each other in the Campaign Mode. :)

Yes both Empire and Napoleon will support Game Ranger. The Mac App Store version will support Game Centre as well as Game Ranger. That includes multiplayer co-op campaign mode.

Let's say that I purchase the Mac App Store version, so in theory does that mean that I can then log onto multi-player via Game Ranger... which then allows me to match-up against other players who purchased a NON-Mac-App-Store version?

Correct. The FAQs that come with the patch (and will be on our support site) explain exactly how it all works.

Co-op

I'm a little confused about co-op over the internet in the windows version so........

Will you be able to play two humans against the AI in campaign mode? Could you have two different French players against AI? Can you have two humans against the AI during a battle?
