I'm a little confused about co-op over the internet in the windows version so........

Will you be able to play two humans against the AI in campaign mode? Could you have two different French players against AI? Can you have two humans against the AI during a battle?

  1. You can have a maximum of two human players.
  2. Both players have to choose different factions to control.
  3. You can decide to form an alliance against the AI factions.
  4. Victory conditions are you have to defeat all factions including the other human player to win.
  5. When playing a 3D battle the other human player will control the opposing faction in the battle instead of the AI.
  6. You cannot have two humans playing against the AI in a 3D battle when in campaign mode.

Hey Eddie would you be able to disclose the price now, will it coincide with the price of the total war series.

As per our website the pricing is $30, £20 & €27

I am wondering if it will be released on Steam?

No, it won't be on Steam.

Is the release still on for the 3d? Will it be on the App Store on the 3d?

Yes the game is ready to launch on the 3rd, however the Mac AppStore launch will depend on Apple approving the MAS version. There is a slight possibility Apple don't review it in time for the 3rd as we have no control on Apple's review process.

Is that, it won't be on Steam in the same way as X-Com?

Or will this really not be on Steam? If so what is the reason for some games to be released on Steam and not others?

I wonder the same thing basically. I bought XCOM on MAS recently never expecting it to become available on Steam where I'd prefer to own it.

I think I will hold off this time and see how things play out for a while.

XCOM was the first Steam title so we did not (and could not) announce until everything was sorted etc. You should have noticed my answers never said "XCOM will never be on Steam" or "not be on Steam". I said it "would be not be released on launch on Steam" and things like that. :)

With Napoleon I can confirm it will not be on Steam for the foreseeable future (this means nothing planned for Napoleon but if we decide to bring it to Steam in 2014 or 2020 as a legends game for example I am not seen as misleading). ;)

With all future announcements we can say if the game will be on Steam or not at the initial announcement along with Feral Store, Mac AppStore, DVD etc. However Napoleon, Tropico 4 and XCOM were announced before our first Steam release so we could not do this. Not every game will be on Steam but those that will be we will make sure you know about it on announcement.

If you want cross platform play in XCOM using Steam but have a MAS version contact our support team and they might be able to help you out. ;)

If you hold off buying a copy of Napoleon hoping that a Steam version will magically appear that's fine but I would say your chances of getting lucky and us making a Steam version are very very small. Things could change in the future but I can confirm that right now we have no plans for Napoleon to be a Steam title.

Thanks very much and for filling us in on how things will be going forward. I was wondering about that. It'll be nice to know which options there are, etc.

My MAS copy of XCOM is the Elite Edition as you know with the DLC. Is the DLC separate purchases on Steam or even available? I did look at the Steam Store page but couldn't really tell.

As for Napoleon MAS will be fine then. I do like MAS, I just like Steam better for its social features, etc. where i have friends there.

I take it Tropico 4 isn't planned for Steam either then if I understood the above correctly? So, I'll probably want to go MAS with that too then.

I am really happy to see Feral launch a title on Steam. I think that is awesome. You guys were the one big thing missing from Steam for a Mac gamer but hopefully not anymore going forward. That would be nice.

Steam certainly has an advantage for large-scale combat multi-player games (e.g. fast-paced FPS shooters). But for matchups against only 1 or 2 opponents online, especially on turn-based or slow-paced real-time strategy games.... the MAS Game Center can do the job fine IMHO.

The Total War games seem to be of the latter category, than the former.

Thanks! I do my best to be as open and honest about what is happening with our titles (and Mac gaming in general) when asked in these forums. If in some cases I am a little vague then it's not because I am trying to confuse it's just the question might be something I cannot answer at the time directly for various reasons.

My MAS copy of XCOM is the Elite Edition as you know with the DLC. Is the DLC separate purchases on Steam or even available? I did look at the Steam Store page but couldn't really tell.

On Steam all the DLC is separate purchases as the Mac only Elite Edition does not exist. XCOM + DLC is slightly more expensive on Steam than the Elite edition is on other Mac only stores by a few dollars.

As for Napoleon MAS will be fine then. I do like MAS, I just like Steam better for its social features, etc. where i have friends there.

We have spend literally months on Game Centre trying to make it as good as we can, it has limitations but we do support things like Co-op Campaign mode with friend invites.

Improving the social side of our gaming is something we have worked hard on but in 2013 we are really focusing on making the online and social experience in our games better.

I take it Tropico 4 isn't planned for Steam either then if I understood the above correctly? So, I'll probably want to go MAS with that too then.

Correct, currently Tropico 4 is not slated to be a Steam title.

I am really happy to see Feral launch a title on Steam. I think that is awesome. You guys were the one big thing missing from Steam for a Mac gamer but hopefully not anymore going forward. That would be nice.

Thanks, we will go our best not to disappoint. :D

Empire has always had multiplayer, it just lacked an online mode. We have a patch coming (quite soon before Napoleon ships) that will add in Game Center and Game Ranger online multiplayer modes to the already existing LAN modes.

Cheers,

Edwin
Any update on this? I bought Empire last year and you promised you would have an update out by the end of the year that would enable online multiplayer. Still waiting.

Unfortunately we underestimated the amount of work it takes to make the online multiplayer functional and to a good enough standard that we are happy with. Napoleon and Empire both use the same multiplayer systems and we literally have spent months with GameCentre and GameRanger getting the game to the quality you all expect.

We planned to release the Empire MP update just before Napoleon's launch but their came a point that we could either delay the Empire patch or delay the Napoleon launch. We decided to ship Napoleon then ship the Empire patch just after.

In fact a number of people on the forums and Facebook page have helped in testing the final bugs in the last few weeks. As this patch has been delayed before due to problems and niggles I don't want to promise anything but I can say now that Napoleon has shipped the Empire patch is being worked and tested as I type.

Trust me we REALLY want to get this patch out as much as you want to play it. It has been a very long slog and we just want it out so people can play. The good news is that the patch will support Game Centre and Game Ranger as the initial plan which was to only support Game Centre. This means all the different versions can play against each other online using Game Ranger if you want. We also added in Achievements, full support for Apple's "Full Screen" mode and fixed and improved as many things we could based on user feedback.

Bottom line we are sorry for the delay but we think the patch when it is released will be well received not only for the MP mode but all the other additions and improvements.

So is the font size in Napolean still ridiculously small in all the dialog boxes and so forth just as in Empire? Apparently this has been a problem in all the Total War games after Rome so I'm guessing yes. Just Google it and you'll see. It's baffling to me that Creature Assembly can make such fine games yet overlook such details. I realize this may not be a problem for everybody b,ut there are still enough people out there with less than optimal eyesight, especially those of us getting up there in age, that I would think they would take this into consideration. It certainly takes a lot of the enjoyment out of Empire for me unfortunately.

At least it looks like they are completely overhauling the interface with Rome 2 so if we see that on the Mac side someday that's something some of us won't have to worry about anymore.

On another note does anybody know if Napolean uses Apple's full-screen mode? Thanks.

See above, the answer is no, Empire is not a Mac Steam title and currently there are no plans for it to become one.

It's slightly worse on modern Apple hardware because the pixel density and resolutions on Mac's is getting higher making the font look smaller (you should see it on a Retina MPB!), if you drop the resolution a little it becomes much bigger and easier to read. I know this is not a perfect solution but it will make it much easier for you.

I realize this may not be a problem for everybody b,ut there are still enough people out there with less than optimal eyesight, especially those of us getting up there in age, that I would think they would take this into consideration. As with Napoleon dropping the resolution increases the font size.

Yes it does, you can tell because you can sometimes make the dock appear over the game window in full screen. You can also play in a window if you want.

After reading your plea for help, I quickly wrote a mod for Empire (not Napoleon) to help you out, you will get a little text overlapping in the text boxes from time to time but it makes all the text in the game display a lot bigger making it easier to read especially at high resolution.

Simply download this mod and follow the instructions and it will install the mod files and tell you what to type into the advanced panel to activate the different options. You will have 4 different font sizes to choose from, the bigger ones are easier to read but have a little more clipping.

Enjoy,

Edwin

p.s. Napoleon is a fair bit tricker to mod the fonts so that's why I don't have a solution right now.
