Just purchased Navigon and all I get when I try to route to an address is the following notification: "navigon iphone gps reception is currently not sufficient". I leave the app up for 15 minutes and that's all I get. The phone is in my car and accessible to the sky in a car mount and plugged into a power source. I even tried removing the case and still no gps signal. My 3Gs is JB if that matters.

Try opening maps, let it get a GPS lock, then go back into Navigon and navigate away.

I restored my 3Gs as new and now it is working perfectly. Weird. Thanks all.

I had that error come once. I just closed app and relaunched and it was gone.

I have the same problem with it. I've tried everything EXCEPT a full restore as new. That seems insane to have to do to get a new app to work. Anyone know if you can get a refund on an app once its purchased? This hasn't worked a single time since I bought it. I just feel like I've been ripped off.

You'll probably not want to purchase any GPS app then. I've seen the 'restore as new' suggestion for many of the apps to help with GPS reception issues. Has something to do with clearing/rearranging of memory in the iPhone.

Unless you are jailbroken and heavily modified, then a restore as new and then immediately followed by a sync will get all the call/sms/voicemail history back. It's not painful anymore. About 20 minutes for me on a 16gb 3GS with it at 12gb of 'stuff'.

But if you are jailbroken and heavily modified with WinterBoard, then the time involved will be a lot more to get back where you are.

You don't have to restore as new. Just restore from a backup. Did you even read Navigon's site before posting in all these GPS threads about Navigon not getting a signal lock?

You don't even have to do that. All that was necessary for me when neither Gmpas nor Navigon could acquire GPS signal was to go into iPhone's Settings-> Reset-> Reset Location Data.

You can notice you will have gps reception problems (due to whatever is going on in the background in the location data department) when you launch Navigon and it doesn't ask you to allow it to "use your current location". After the abovementioned reset it will ask you that and you're good to go.

I don't seem to have any such option. I do have "Reset Location Warnings" but that wouldn't reset the GPS, just the nag messages.

Yes that's the one, although no I do not see any relation to GPS myself. But hey, try it, it works for me, might as well work for you.

Can't restore from backup since my iphone is jailbroken. Yes, I have read through the useless Navigon website for "support".

Of course you can restore if your phone is jailbroken. Your phone still backs up when you sync. After restore, you just have to rejailbreak and set things back up as they were. It's a minor drawback to jailbreaking.

We do this after each update and when there are issues, which is much less often then it used to be.

I restored as "new" not from "backup", which is what you are supposed to do with JB iphones. I think I know just a tad bit about JB'ing but thanks anyway. :)

I seem to get a frequent similar message. I did the full restore (erase all data and settings) and it seemed like that helped yesterday. But now today, it can't seem to get a lock on the GPS signal ("GPS data insufficient"). What's seemed to work the most for everyone in regard to getting and keeping a signal? Granted today is a cloudy day here, so that may be it. I do enjoy Navigon, especially after reading TomTom's lackluster reviews, but have not tried TT yet.

how to get a refund for Navigon?

No offense to Navigon fans, but can anyone please tell me how to successfully get a refund for Navigon?

I called Apple but they told me to contact Navigon (developer) first. So I did (sent them email from their web based customer-support form). But I haven't heard back from Navigon since.

I know that Apple may try rebuff you with the "purchases are final and there are no refunds" or some other shtick. But someone must have figured out how to work the system...

And yes I tried everything. Clean re-install, disable 3G, clear view of the sky and all that. It's just not cool when I got a Google GPS location but nothing with Navigon.

Thanks.

I just tuned in here because I was having problems
with the Navigon on my 3GS getting signal.

It routed yesterday when I first got it.

Today it was at a loss to find a signal after even
15 miles of driving around. Many resets without
helping. Then did a reset of all settings.

Then I tried opening MAPS first to get a lock on and
then go to Navigon (as mentioned above). This worked.

Who knows what tomorrow will bring ??

This program obviously is NOT sorted out. Hopefully they
will debug it soon and post an upgrade.

I am still not getting a decent signal and I've placed my phone all over the car. I mainly use a suction based mount, but I've stood everywhere under direct sunlight at high noon and still no signal. Does invisishield impair the gps at all? I've taken the case off and everything.

Where are you located, & what are your surroundings like (mountains, tall buildings, etc.)?

Have you restored the phone as per Navigon's web site?

Not accusing you personally, but I wonder how many TomTom trolls there are on this board spreading FUD :p

Yeah, really

Especially after reading that thread about App PR firms...no doubt the reviews go both ways from that standpoint.

Interesting to look at the reviews on the U.S. App Store between Navigon and TomTom.

Things that make you go hmm..
