No GPS signal with any navigation app

I think I might have to take a trip to the apple store. I have an iphone 3g and I've been trying to solve my gps problem. I can not get a gps signal no matter what navigation app I use. Google maps works fine and will find my position with in a matter of seconds. I've tried Navigon, Tomtom, Xgps and none of these apps can get a gps lock. I've tried restoring my phone to original and downloading a nav app from itunes, and still no gps.
Any ideas or fixes, or do I have to take that trip to the apple store ?

Apple weasels out of a warranty

So I go to the Apple store and explain how the google maps works but none of the navigation apps work. So of course they say that they don't support any 3rd party apps even though it's a legit download through itunes. They have my phone no longer than 5 minutes and tell me that the warranty is voided due to water damage. They state that the water stickers show that it's been exposed to water, and that maybe why the GPS is not working, but yet they couldn't explain why the google maps works just fine.
So in final Apple would not warranty the phone and they said that I should contact the manufacturer of the app I'm trying to use. Of course they would never admit how crappy the illustrious iphone GPS really is

For what it's worth, turning the wireless on instantly transformed my Navigon from totally non-functional to working perfectly. It took me _days_ to find this fix-- thanks to whoever suggested the fix here.

Solution from another post.....

Go outside to an unobstructed view of the sky - no trees / etc..

Go to Settings, General, Auto-Lock, and set it to Never
Go to Settings, General, Reset, and click Reset Network Settings

The phone will reboot

Turn off the Wifi Message
Go to Maps and allow the phone to remain on for about 3 minutes.

All GPS should work fine now!

navigon gps

You don't even have to do that. All that was necessary for me when neither Gmpas nor Navigon could acquire GPS signal was to go into iPhone's Settings-> Reset-> Reset Location Data.

You can notice you will have gps reception problems (due to whatever is going on in the background in the location data department) when you launch Navigon and it doesn't ask you to allow it to "use your current location". After the abovementioned reset it will ask you that and you're good to go.

Thanks for your indication.... it worked perfectly for my iphone 4 :)
I was so frustrated, i didn't even want to use it. Navigon was working perfectly on my 3GS and iPad ... and now my iPhone 4!!! :D
