I'm currently using a 2019 15" MacBook Pro 2.6/16/256/hexa-core

I have had my eye on the 14" Space Black MacBrook Pro for awhile now and I love it

Should I upgrade or just keep using my current notebook?
nnnnnnnnno. atleast acoeding to the rumors (on this website) you should wait for m6 (i am)

and if it doesent get all that, then m4 is great (and a lot cheaper by then) and then it would be good!

The screen on the air is really bad, I bought a 15’ M3 MBA as a stopgap and wound up returning it for much more expensive MBP. The Intel 16” had a far better screen than the MBA 15”, and I’d go so far as to say every Apple laptop I’ve had outside of an 11” MBA had a better screen. It’s shockingly mediocre, unfortunately.

I hate that Apple puts these artificial limitations on products because I’d pay $500 more for a MBP Quality Screen with Antiglare on a nice thin & light laptop, but they’ll never sell me one. Oh well…
Um MacBook Pro screen is much better but air isn’t that bad… by the way most Macs supports apple Intelligence.

Other than incremental speed improvements, the most visible improvement you get with the new M3 MacBooks is access to Apple Intelligence, though it is something that will take some time to explore and figure out how it can best work for you before you can leverage it.

That said, Sequoia is available to the 2019 MacBook Pros, though with a limited feature set, as is typical for newer Mac OS's running on older hardware. And you're still getting all the update support that newer hardware is getting.

Some side things to think about:

Could you use more onboard local storage? For example, if you currently have a 256 GB drive, and are constantly having to weed through things and delete files because you keep running low on space, targeting new MacBooks with 512 GB of storage space adds to your case for an upgrade, right?

Same with RAM - if your current laptop has 8 GB and seems sluggish, especially with several apps and/or browser tabs open at once, targeting a MacBook 16 GB or 24 GB RAM can add to your case for an upgrade.

If your current laptop has Intel silicon (I think all the 2019 MacBook Pros do), be sure to consider how dependent you are on any (particularly older) third-party apps that may not be compatible with Apple silicon (M2/M3). Of course, any app available in Apple's App Store would be ok; otherwise, it wouldn't be there.

Should I upgrade to a Lamborghini? I drive to the supermarket occasionally. Need honest opinion, thanks!
MacBook Pro sales are hilarious but they’re not like Lamborghini’s (which almost no one buys), but rather enormous and incredibly capable SUVs to go for your Starbucks and Costco runs, which seemingly everyone has.

Yes for “day to day use of internet browsing and emails” literally any laptop with an SSD is perfectly adequate.

Well, just as one more data point, I recently went ahead and sprung for an M4 Pro MacBook Pro, just because I think we are at an auspicious time in the design cycle. They have fixed the awful keyboards from a few years back, given us back a selection of useful ports AND MagSafe AND Thunderbolt 5 (with the pro chip only, granted). And the anti-glare display is absolutely amazing. And the M4 series of chips are performing well and battery life is astounding and I’m not hearing of any systemic issues.. you get the idea. It just seemed like this is “peak MacBook Pro” before they maybe do another redesign and introduce something less optimal, in the quest for change for the sake of change. Who knows what we will lose as the pendulum swings back toward “thinnah and lightah”.. but this is just one man’s opinion, YMMV, etc.

I guess "I want it"

I don't use a computer every day

When I do it's for numbers app, internet browsing like YouTube, paying bills online

That's about it
So the 2019 MacBook Pro is missing MANY MANY MANY THINGS BRUH…

- 10+ times more faster on M series chips
Yeah OP needs to pay his bills 10x faster 🙄

The forums aren't YouTube thumbnails, there's no need for such hyperbole. OP wouldn't notice a difference in performance on his machine given usage habits. The reduction in heat (no intel cookware), silence (no intel, no noisy active cooling), screen, speakers, and battery would be welcome quality of life updates.

Agreed mainly on the battery. The late intel MacBook pros have some pretty horrendous battery life, like 2 hours or so. Any of the M series would do much better in this regard

Yes.

We had an older MBP and upgraded recently to what you're eyeing. Fast, sleek, multitasks like a breeze. Never looked back (pun intended).

Some people say to get M3 but here is why people should get m4 like you and me :

- M4 which gives more performances to the Mac (M4 has also 10 cores CPU against 8)

- 16 gb on the base model, up to 32 ! (Against 8 and 24)

- 2 extra hours of battery (24)

- SDR content at 1000 nits against 600 nits

- Better FaceTime camera (12mp) with center stage and desk view !

- An extra usb/thunderbolt port

- Available in space black !

For sure if you can get m4, m4 is the best !!

Yes M4 represents evolution from excellent to awesome. I doubt if the next remodel will go downhill, however. I suspect that we will just see thinner/lighter with similar competence. We might get surprised with 256 GB RAM available at some point too, but what we really need with RAM is cheaper add-on pricing...

Last year, I upgraded from a 2019 MBP 16" to my current 14.2" M3 Pro MBP. I've been very happy with my decision. Apple Intelligence, a better webcam, and MagSafe are the start. I also find the smaller laptop easier to carry around, and I prefer actual function keys over the Touch Bar.

I went with the M3 Pro over the base M3 because I wanted more RAM and better performance. Storage is very important to me. I went for 1 TB, which is the same as what I had with my previous MBP.

I plan to keep this one for at least four years, so I'm willing to spend a little more to make my investment last longer. Of course, make the decision that works best for you.

Yeah but the $300 I put in in 2019 will now cover an M4 MBP 14” model and still give me my original $300 back. It’s like a different type of AppleCare+.
I agree but doesn’t means it will do the same now…

A macbook pro would be way overpowered for that. There‘s the M4Air around the corner, which is lighter, smaller and fanless - and probably 50 times faster than you‘d need to run those kind of tasks without a hiccup. So, unless you appreciate the better screen, more ports and a better speakers, but don‘t mind the added wright, size, noise and dust intake, I‘d go for the air and buy something else for the rest of the money.
I bought a M3 Pro MBP in July, and I haven’t heard the fan go off once. It’s barely even gotten warm. Now I get it, it’s overpowered for most people. But for other people, the 120hz refresh rate, brighter screen, and sharper pixel density makes it worth it.

Even if your tasks are "light", the only way to get reasonable screen quality in Apple ecosystem is an iPad Pro or a MacBook Pro.
Mine is just another opinion but the screens on the MBA are very reasonable. Apple Silicon has changed what the MBA is capable of. Your use case sounds very much like you're a MBA user.
