I chose canon for one of the reasons that their bodies are made in japan vs. nikons being made in thailand. Ive had many made in japan electronics and they neve rlet me down. for example I have a RCA VCR from 1991, mad ein japan, still works, and a pioneer stereo reciever from 1982, looks new and works like new. japanese quality or atleast reliabiliy seems much better than being made in china, etc

Canon and Nikon both manufacture in Japan and outside. I believe Nikon tries to manufacture their FF bodies in Japan and their higher-end glass. I've got bodies made in Japan and Thailand. No difference in quality that I've noticed.

I just upgraded from a Nikon D5200 to a Canon 70D. The one thing i miss from the nikon is the focus light beam. i have yet to try canons pre flash auto focus in low light on people yet so I'm concerned how different it may be :S
There are some relatively cheap flash triggers you can use to aid with focusing in the dark. Otherwise canon flashes have one, but cost more.

The YN-622, I believe (found at Amazon and other places):

The AF-assist beam can be enabled or disabled in a 622 mounted on the camera by using the camera’s External flash C.Fn settings.

Other than that, I would not worry about it. Crank the ISO up and go for it. Search for night and concert photography at this forum, and you will find plenty of photo samples at parties and such without the use of flash:
