Thanks ! looks really impressive numbers especially the 6800XT, very close to the 6900XT.
Hi Lou,^^^^Just to add on my RX6800 on a 7,1 Mac Pro I get:

I tried to open zip and download but nothing click properly to initiate download. Is there something I might be not doing correctly?Hi Lou,
Thanks for posting these results. If you have Apple motion installed on your system could you please run the test I prepared? I posted a link in the reply to rondocap where it could be downloaded. It will be interesting to compare also the W580X. Thanks!
FPS 29Great, happy it worked ! As for the FPS you can see it on the top left hand side of motion's preview window. ( I attached a screen shot ) it appears there on playback. When testing please wait for the last 10 sec or so of the video, that's when it stabilises on the lowest FPS number which is what I would like to have as a reference.
FPS 29
How do I do RAM preview in Motion?
It takes less than one second to complete ram preview all.I Guess it's the RX6800 ? it's really high FPS. The test file I made was quite challenging for the GPU. (many layers , effects, particles and replicators ). Could you do please check the same with the W580X ? and again just look at the FPS in the last 10 sec of the timeline.
For the Ram preview :
1. Clear Motion's ram preview ( Mark> Ram preview> Clear ram preview )
2. Lunch the ram preview by Mark> Ram preview> All
And measure the time until it completes.
Thanks!
Hi, sure I will do these as soon as I canThanks ! looks really impressive numbers especially the 6800XT, very close to the 6900XT.
Thanks also to everyone else who posted their results.
As promised I prepared a motion file that could be used to test real life performance of the card:
1. Real time playback (FPS)
2. Ram preview
3. Export time
I couldn't attach the file here ( its 44 mb) so I uploaded it to google drive:
Apple motion GPU test .zip
drive.google.com
Could you please test the different cards in the three scenarios above ?
Before running the tests its important to clear Motion's ram preview ( Mark> Ram preview> Clear ram preview )
Also please make sure that you have Full, Best and Depth of field ticked in Motion’s render dropdown menu. For the export you can keep everything as is by default. Please let me know if you need anymore info and thanks again for the time you're putting into this.
Thanks for taking the time to test it. It really flies on your system! It takes less than one second to complete ram preview all.
I only have vega ii duo.
Hi, so the first test I did was on two W5700x, 28 core Xeon for referenceThanks, I appreciate it. I prepared the test myself so no official numbers from Apple.
It includes many layers, effects, particles and replicators with the idea to challenge the GPU.
For the moment I have these results:
OkiRun tested the Vega II duo:
Real time playback: 29 FPS
Real time preview: Less then a second
On my x2 D700
Real time playback:7 FPS
Pre render: 3 min.
Export render: 3.30 min.
I’m about to buy the Mac Pro 7,1 and with the help of these tests I get a better idea of the performance of the different GPU’S before deciding on the configuration.
I'm interested to see the results from your system, if similar to the Vega II duo, I might need to make the test bit more difficult for the GPU to handle.
Here are my numbers with two separate Vega ii, connected with infinity fabric:It does make more sense now! I was surprised of the huge gap from the results I had on my system.
Thanks for this. I will be happy to see the results of the other cards when you have time
Did you export movie from motion, or send to compressor... for export? Here are my numbers with two separate Vega ii, connected with infinity fabric:
FPS: 11
Ram preview: 1 min 22 second
Export: 1 min 32 sec
from most of my testing, in video work, the dual w5700x is very close to dual Vega ii or sometimes slightly faster!
Hmmm. That took less than 2 seconds to export and the clip opened up on desktop automatically. Let me try again.I did export directly from motion:
1. Clear Motion's ram preview ( Mark> Ram preview> Clear ram preview )
2. File> Share movie> Export movie ( default )
Leave all settings on the export movie menue as they are and render
Need to make sure clear ram is done, export time should be close to my two vega ii, around 1 min 30 sec or soHmmm. That took less than 2 seconds to export and the clip opened up on desktop automatically. Let me try again.
Too fast to time. No more than 2 seconds from export to an open video file to view on desktop.
What is the fast way to record desktop as this process is done. I did clear the ram. Editor is on machine now with documentary so it will be later when they are at lunch and I can sneak back inNeed to make sure clear ram is done, export time should be close to my two vega ii, around 1 min 30 sec or so
I just use the stopwatch app on my phoneWhat is the fast way to record desktop as this process is done. I did clear the ram. Editor is on machine now with documentary so it will be later when they are at lunch and I can sneak back in
I am going to screen record the process so you can see, as it seems to go very quickly to be done in the way the settings are set. I will show that the ram is clear first and then do the export with fixed settings.I just use the stopwatch app on my phone
