It doesn't matter if it is a small portion of their viewers, which to be honest I highly doubt to be insignificant; Netflix is a paid service and should implement features that the users demand. Your suggestion that people can't watch the movie/show if it is playing in PiP simply isn't true, regardless of whether it is true for you or not. PiP isn't missing, and i'm not sure you understand how it works - it isn't the only way to watch so obviously wouldn't be used on a date.

They DID implement the feature. You're just not happy it took longer than expected and that it doesn't work on iOS 10 beta. Payed or not, it doesn't matter when they add a feature. That's 100% up to them. It's their product, not yours. You don't get to say when and how things are implemented. They have no obligation to fix it for iOS 10 beta either. It doesn't have to get fixed until iOS 10 releases. If they fixed it now, it could just as easily break again in beta 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8. Which would cost them more money. Maybe the issue can't be fixed using iOS 9 SDK or API. If so they can't release a proper iOS 10 fix until GM.

While I can see part of your argument about it being a beta, the rest is kinda far off base. Of course people have a right to complain about a service they pay for. To say they shouldn't or can't is asinine. It's obvious that in your case, this is a non issue. That's great. Nothing wrong with that. Not sure why you feel the need to tell others, that because it doesn't matter to you, it shouldn't matter to them.

I know it is implemented, I said it WASN'T missing as you had said in your post. I used the feature before updating to iOS 10.
Do not speak for me, I never said I was unhappy it took longer than expected and I never said I was unhappy that it doesn't work on iOS 10 beta.
If you actually read the posts in this thread you would realise that I was just wondering if there was a way to get it to work and about their version specific implementation.
I didn't care that I had to wait for them to implement it - it is their app and I am just glad that they did. I am not demanding them to fix it, rather saying that it should be done for a paid service.

I'm fairly certain those responses were meant for my comments. Didn't mean to muck up your thread with off topic stuff. My apologies.

Unfortunately BETA 4 is still the same. Hoping an app update fixes it. Looks like Netflix are specifically checking for iOS 9 and not iOS 9+

I think it might just be a case of waiting a week after the official iOS 10 release. Their implementation will still be annoying but at least it'll work.

I work making video apps for iOS and I can say that one of the biggest difficulties is not Apple's API, but the DRM library that is chosen. The previous code base we were developing used Cisco Video Guard. Cisco was an absolute nightmare to work with. Now, we are working with Adobe and it is much improved. There are only about a 1/2 dozen DRM libraries available, and it may be one of them that is causing trouble for Netflix.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. It shines a different light on the issue.

I think it's unacceptable that it took as long as it did for Netflix to update for PIP support, considering they were one of the apps Apple used to demo PIP at WWDC '15 in the first place.

I'm really not expecting PiP until iOS 10 leaves beta. Whatever the issue, it seems obvious that it's iOS 10 related. Netflix has been putting out updates very frequently this summer. If they haven't fixed PiP, it's got to be that it's a fix that can't be submitted till right before the GM.

Although I have seen updates from some developers (Rightmove for one) with bug fixes for their app running on iOS 10, I think officially they're not allowed to submit an update which accesses any new APIs or features until a week or two before public release. Netflix might be playing it safe with their developer agreement. BBC app on the other hand still crashes. You'd think Apple would encourage developers to get their apps ready well before the public release of iOS 10.

Edit: seems BBC app doesn't crash anymore since the update today.

I fully expect Netflix to have a compatibility update for iOS 10 on launch day. Since technically they already support PiP on iOS 9, it would very poor of them to let features lapse when iOS 10 launches.

Quite honestly, I expect any iOS developer that charges a monthly subscription for their App to be absolutely the first in line, on the cutting edge, of every new feature of every OS update. Anything less is unacceptable.

Tell that to BT, the BT sport app is still not optimised for the iPhone 6 onwards and still no appleTV app.
