You should tell people to reboot in recovery partition to use its security utility to disable SIP.

boot-args is going to be removed fairly soon from El Cap as you cannot issue anymore nvram changes while SIP is running.

Yes, I'm well aware of that. The thing is that every time I tell someone to boot to recovery partition to disable SIP, another person (does the same thing you just did) has to jump in and tell me "You should tell people to use boot args instead".

That other person is incorrect. I'm basing this on what Apple said in their Security session, so you can use this as evidence next time: https://developer.apple.com/videos/wwdc/2015/?id=706

Doesn't matter at this point. I know what you are basing it on. Both ways work right now so it's a philosophical argument. I don't disagree with you. That said, the other person(s) are not wrong until it's changed. Both ways are correct at this point.

I'm not expecting to post about it or help anyone else with it from here on out. There are plenty of other people who can repeat the appropriate information.

I spoke with Netflix support today, they are aware of the issue and gave me a fix that worked for me:

Quit Safari, then look in ~/Library/Safari/Databases, there is a folder called __indexedDB. I deleted the entire folder but you could go in and delete only Netflix entries. Restart Safari, Netflix should now work fine.

Hope that helps someone.
Worked for me! Thanks

i am getting the same error code, but when i go to library and then safari my safari folder does not have a database folder in it. Can someone pls help me figure this out?

Thanks

Make sure you are looking in the Library folder that lives in your home directory, not the one under /System.

I also have a problem, but I’m not sure whether it’s related. When I click on a video the tab just doesn’t seem to load. The progress bar finishes but the webpage doesn’t render and sticks with the previous webpage. It becomes unresponsive as well, it takes a while before the tab responds to the close command.

I’ve checked my Safari library folder as well, but the database folder is empty too.

Edit: the cause is definitely Silverlight. When I go to https://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx and give permission to run Silverlight, the tab doesn’t load either. I will reinstall it again and see whether it makes a difference.

I have the exact same problem what @KALLT described. Tried to delete caches and that database folder. Also tried to delete Silverlight but apparently Netflix requires it on my machine so I reinstalled it. Still not working.

It worked fine on Wednesday but then yesterday it no longer worked. Not sure but if I installed El Capitan DB3 before or after I used Netflix on Wednesday.

Good to know, perhaps it’s an issue related to beta 3 / public beta 1 then.

Reinstalling didn’t help, sadly.

At least Chrome works though. So it's something related to Safari. Developer > "Show error console" only shows warnings related to CSS. But SilverLightEvent seems to hang.

uninstall silverlight, there's no reason to have it installed anymore. you'll be given a much better HTML5 version that works in Safari without any plugins.

Not every content provider supports HTML5 yet, or encrypted media extensions for that matter. Silverlight may still be useful. Moreover, Apple’s implementation of encrypted media extensions only works on newer hardware. For those with older hardware, Silverlight and Chrome’s Widevine plugin are the only options.

Will 2013 model be able to play encrypted media content in 10.11?

Netflix verifies that Safari/El Capitan and Firefox are not working properly. Chrome does work and they
suggest using Chrome until Safari and Firefox are fixed.

Back to Netflix not working again.

Single screen iMac 5K. Have shut down all other software, deleted database, website data and cache. Any other things I should try?
