Haven't experienced any popping (yet!! ) but have always been a fan of the Boom app ( basshead :p ) !

Good Lord, the boom app may be working! I just installed it and did sound tests that would typically reproduce the cackle and it's completely gone. It makes sense too because to me this has always been a software issue and if boom is providing a better software audio driver ontop of everything, then a fix is feasible. We just need Apple to do this now themselves...

For those using the Boom 3D - does it turn on the microphone light? Some of the FAQs at the vendor site appear to indicate it does?

Not in my experience. Also, all I did was simply install it and have it open in the background. I am not using any of its features, and that fixes things. This is a good temporary fix until Apple finally does something

I honestly encounter the popping/cracking sounds when watching youtube videos and am dependent on the MBP speakers.

It seems that boom 3D does not solve the problem of popping sound from the bottom, but deals with the popping sound. It seems that Apple needs to solve it completely!

It's wacky. sometimes removing the two prefs in the Computer>Library>Prefs>Audio folder works for a while. Sometimes not. I have the crackling with just one speaker (left). It must be a software issue (vs. a damaged speaker) because sometimes it's terrible and then can be gone for days.
It's very annoying. Often I go to system pref>sound and turn off my left speaker.
I've yet to update to Monterey 12.4. Crossing my fingers that that helps.

Also, strangely, when I removed the two plist files today, they did not return (I haven't yet restarted the MBP).
Previously, when I removed the two plist files, one would be replaced quickly, in a couple seconds, before I could restart.
Maybe the difference depends on whether I'm watching YouTube or listening to the music app? Don't know yet.

Wish it did - but at least for me is no difference. Same also with macOS 12.5 (21G5027d)

Two months have passed since I've done this, and not a single pop or crack for me since.

This fixed it for me, but I fear it's just because I've restarted and any RAM issues haven't come up yet. I'm going to push my Mac with Final Cut and Photoshop/Illustrator tasks and see if it comes up again.

My 16" M1 Pro Max 32GB RAM is just under the fully maxed 64GB model. I spent over $5K on this computer. Can't even listen to Apple Music or watch a movie. Apple needs to get their $h*t together.

Has apple acknowledged this issue yet? Boom 3d doesn't work, just tried

Has anyone contacted Apple about the problem? If no one has then how would apple be able to acknowledge it?

The more people that report it, Apple will then be able to say oh we have problem here let’s see how to address it and either acknowledge it or release a fix.

No, out of the dozens of replies in this thread regarding an issue with their Apple products, you're the very first person to have come up with contacting Apple.

Just acknowledging that I'm having this problem too, and following this thread. I reset NVRAM and killed "coreaudioID", but neither of those steps solved the problem. I just deleted the audio preference files in Library and installed Boom 3D. I'll report back.

Now, I'm getting audio popping as well on MacBook Pro 14 after the latest update.

I haven't had any popping since installing Boom and deleting the audio preferences. But it has only been about 16 hours, and I've gone that long without popping in the past after resetting NVRAM—so we'll see.

So far Boom 3D is working for me on my 14" MBP. Fingers crossed that it lasts! The problem had actually gone away for me for a good few months, but then it randomly came back again. It was getting so bad recently that it was crackling and popping every few minutes, sometimes every few seconds.

I called Apple about it (again) this week and the advisor I talked to acted like I was the only person in the universe with this problem and like this is the first time he'd heard of it. When I told him there were tons of us with this issue he just ignored me. So glad I got AppleCare lol 🥴
