If Apple spent 1% of the time and resources that they spend on these miserable emojis and dedicated it to squashing bugs in OS X and it's associated apps (FTFF, Preview etc.) the world would be a very much better place...

I predict that future generations will drop traditional language and communicate via emoji exclusively.

The SJW CEO Tim Cook made a big mistake by bringing skin color into emojis. The original lemon-yellow emoji faces existed because no human has lemon-yellow skin, and thus all humans can be represented by lemon-yellow emojis in a neutral and non-racist way.

Including skin color in emojis just spreads this diseased practice of American race-consciousness all over the world.

Now, with these varied skin color emojis, people can use those emojis to make racist jokes and comments. Back when there were only lemon yellow-colored emoji faces, those lemon yellow-colored emoji faces couldn’t be used for racist jokes and comments.

It’s disappointing and inappropriate that Tim Cook is using Apple to try and further his SJW agenda. If he is trying to lessen racism by doing so, he has failed and only served to increase it with the inclusion of race-conscious emojis.

Yep. The original colour face emojis were perfectly fine. Like you said no one has that skin tone so it was neutral and non biased. In any event there is far too many emojis as it is. Do we really need one for literally everything?

oh the horror of skin colored emojis.

Is this the annual thread where backwards right-wing conservatives that made the mistake of believing they're the only extant culture complain about losing their culture because a subculture is getting attention that they feel they shouldn't?

Apparently yes, yes it is.

This site has a serious problem with these kinds of people.

I mean, don't you conservatives get tired of complaining every time new emojis are introduced?

Yes, please teach us about people who overreact and act ridiculous.

Really? Please explain how Apple taking a team of professional artists and having them fix bugs instead would make the world a better place. I'm genuinely curious.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with these emojis and everyone needs to be represented. Move on.

However a side not of everyones eye rolling is because the past 5 years has been such down your throat push from media, cities, communities, politicians that soon as i saw the article this giggle came above me. Because it seems that no other Brand advertises their desperation to show they are inclusive other than apple.

I think most of us are frustrated with the amount of emojis, not the politics behind it.

No, emoji threads tend to be mostly about:
  • people apparently believing that the humongous team* at Apple working on emoji somehow precludes Apple working on other features or quality
  • people complaining about the existence of a particular emoji (such as because they're not gay; therefore, gay emoji don't matter)
In short, "Apple has different priorities than I do; therefore, Apple is bad, wrong, and evil, and Tim Cook is personally responsible, and this would never have happened if Steve were alive".

You know. The usual.

Every single emoji thread then explains that, while Apple has significant input in the consortium, Emoji are a standard as part of Unicode, and for Apple not to implement that as completely as possible, even if they wanted to (which they do not, as emoji are a hugely popular feature), isn't feasible. The last thing Apple wants is for WhatsApp on Android to support an emoji iOS doesn't yet, for people to love and use that emoji, for people to realize it doesn't work when recipients are on an iPhone, and then for people to conclude that the iPhone is uncool and yesteryear's news.

*) Probably a handful of people, if that.

You… do realize this article refers to something the Unicode consortium is working on, not a PR statement from Apple?

Why the hell is an article about emojis in PRSI?

Alas, I think the replies speak for themselves.

I feel my specific type of poop is not represented here... Depending on what I eat, the look can vary.

Because this website has gradually become an insufferable alt-right ********.

I've been following it since the start, I've been a member for 15 years, and the last few years have been terrible. There's always been whiners, but it's turned to severe political whining recently.

Expecting this comment to be deleted, and to get a 7 day ban for this. (Or maybe much, much longer, for being this blunt.)

I don’t agree with a some conservative views, they must be alt right. Classic 2018

Apparently the word “triggered” is insensitive, I found out the other day. I mean come on

I used to work for a client where using such words was considered insensitive. “Bullet” points should be dot points. We were given a whole list of words and with practice it became second nature.
