No idea, I haven’t had the chance to go there, yet.

My (PURE GUESS HERE) is that there is some decibel level that corresponds to some kind of sound pressure level. So there may be a technical reduction that makes the ANC twice as good under certain conditions. Not so sure that will translate to a perceived 2X improvement with respect to ANC. I believe something like a 3db difference represents a doubling (halving) of sound pressure level, but it takes about a 10db reduction for the sound to be perceived as being half as loud.

If you have ever seen the size and form factor an expensive near field microphone you would know there will always be ambient noise coming into a tiny microphone like on Air Pods. They may get closer but it will always be kinda awful.

In this video you can see the ANC of the airpods pro 2 against airpods pro 1.

ANC got worse over time and the microphone was straight out awful if there was any background. Otherwise we’re very good earphones. Gave up and bought Sony xm5’s over ear. Microphone for calls is a million times better. Not compact at all though.

I have the XM5’s too - absolutely amazing over the ear headphones!! You are right though, not compact. I’m debating on whether to pick up the APP2 for travel

Nice. I will have to try in the Store. If anyone wants to try the difference between 1st gen & 2nd gen, please let us know here your feedback.

Mine havn't arrived today yet but one comment from someone here who has them.

"I was really hoping this would have improved sound quality but I can't tell much difference to the Pro 1. My jabra 75t sounds way better. Disappointed"

It seems there is a BIG improvement on ANC, while a more incremental improvement (but still audible) to both sound quality and mic/call quality.

Adding in all other improvements/features (30% longer battery life, Speaker & U1 for Find My support, lanyard hole, support for BT 5.3, faster pairing/switching thanks to H2, water resistant IP4x case, improved silicon tips with also XS version, more "comfortable" pressure matching for ANC/airplanes, improved touch controls ie. volume, etc..) I think it makes it definitely a worthy upgrade.

I don’t think you could ask much more from this first update. Seems like a good package.

Can I wait until my recently replaced Gen 1 (batteries) expire before updating? I also have the USB-C let-down, so ill resist (for now 😏).

I got mine this week and my first impressions are that they do slound better but that the ANC is no better than the gen 1s, wind noise when walking with them is also pretty bad. I am at the point where I think mine may be faulty.

I haven’t been in the wind since getting my APP2 but the ANC is significantly better for background TV sounds, running water and crumpling chip bags. Today I joined a Zoom call in a room next to the elevator and a construction crew jack hammering a building outside the window. The people on the call said that they heard nothing and I heard only them while on the call. The APP1 could not do that. Not sure if wind noise is different or if yours are just faulty.

Anyone else here in a windy area?

The APP1 actually could do that until Apple nerfed the ANC with firmware updates.

Even without the wind noise when used yesterday on a walk I could clearly hear birds singing and also my footsteps on the footpath. I still have the APP1 and the new ones are no better, I also have the new Bose and it is no even close vs them, they are in a different league. Based on the reviews I was expecting the Bose to be better but it is not even close.

I might contact apple support as they could be faulty, I have a good seal and they sound good but the ANC is a huge disappointment.

If you could hear birds and footsteps then there is something wrong, sorry.
