I will say that the 2nd gen ANC is a dream. I found I couldn't really use ANC in Gen 1, as there was always a slight low hum/rumble that was just enough to be distracting. With the Gen 2, it's complete silence with the fan in my office, and other constant ambient noises, like AC/Heating. Sometimes I just want to wear them without music, and I just want ANC on. Couldn't do that with Gen 1.

Like night and day.

Very impressed with how much better the ANC is.

Sound quality also has more pronounced bass.
Waiting for my first ever AirPods to come in at my local Apple Store (I got engraving). More excited now after reading these positive impressions. Time soon to retire my Bluebuds which I’ve had for what feels like a decade.

I can only compare the ANC to AirPods Max since I had them and I don't know how garbage must have the Pro Gen1 ANC been but it's not anything special on Gen2 like some people here claim. You can still hear everything around you, only just really really muted - the higher the frequency, the worse the insulation is. You can definitely still hear AC running, again, just very muted. Plus there is this constant tiny white noise when it's enabled. Way worse ANC than on the Max with original firmware.

How is the microphone of the new AirPods Pro? Is it an improvement over the previous ones, whose quality is quite poor?

The main problem with the APP1 microphone was that it has little to no noise suppression. The new APP2 has much better noise reduction on the microphone inputs. Most external sounds will be reduced or suppressed. I have noticed that direct wind noise can still be heard but that is a much harder problem and the reason why professional mikes usually have a “muff” on them.
