My hopes are, that theres a reason why Apple went AMD. Its just my wishfull thinking, but maybe Blizzard is working on WoW@Mantle (or any Blizzgame really) and Apple therefore went AMD.

Over in the forums in Notebookcheck some people are banging on about AMD's new GPUs coming in next year (probably). Something to do with a die process shrink and HBM. I really don't know much about it but apparently it's all supposed to be a leap frog in performance over Nvidia. Who knows, maybe Apple had this in mind too.

But then again I have seen people get excited over performance jumps before and they fail to materialise.

Apple Boot Camp Software Graphics Drivers released 12/16/2014

AMD has released a supported driver that will install on a Retina iMac with a M295X GPU. I just installed it and found no issues (tested with Far Cry 4):

http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/bootcamp

The original driver will then be updated to v. 14.301.1010.0, date 1. nov 2014

Still not the Omega version 14.501.1003 but better than the older Apple supplied driver I guess.

Thanks a lot for that.

Fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing this! It's far from ideal, but it's definitely a progress, no doubt about it. :)

I unistall the omega drivers with the ddu and I install the new bootable driver. Everything went fine the driver installed but I cannot open the catalyst control panel. It shows on the start menu but when I click doesn't open. Anybody has a solution?

What settings do you use for Far Cry 4 and what are the FPS you get?

There is an easier way to install on bootcamp:

Once you've run the extraction/installation attempt once, go into C:\AMD\AMD-Catalyst-Omega-14.12-With-DOTNet45-Win8.1-64bit\Packages\Drivers\Display\WB6A_INF and run CUI178000.exe to install the latest drivers.

The Omega drivers had some issues with Elite : Dangerous and I had to uninstall them. The Apple basics drivers are fine so far but I'm gonna try with those new "Apple" ones. I'll report back if it's better.

Thanks for the tip !

There's no Bells and Whistles entailed with the latest AMD Bootcamp software. Overall, performance should be better to say the least. As unfortunate as ever, the automatic driver update wouldn't work. And still no 5K support from the driver.

Current solutions are hacks by users' end so I don't assume everything will work. AMD would do better to support their most powerful mobile GPU well. I haven't played any new games besides Tomb Raider; which perform admirably but it really was a well-made and optimised game.

Today I'll try running Skyrim at 4K. I've tried Vanilla Skyrim before at 4K but it didn't perform as I'd have liked. The modded Skyrim should run better.

As a side note, anyone tried 5K resolution with Windows 10?

So people are getting the M295X working....
The M290X is a different story it seems....

I can't get it to work for the life of me - Even the Bootcamp supplied drivers result in Code 43 on a 100% fresh install of Windows 8.1.

Tod,

Could you analyse my photo to verify if I'm do something wrong?

Here we go Lads and Gents:

Here we go:

Fist of all I need to say following. Everything you do, you are doing it at your own Risk. I will not be hold responsible for any Damage this may cause.
Installation was done on Windows 8.1. The Installation Process may vary by your Version of the OS. Also I have the M295X. I cannot say how other Cards will behave.

Step 1:

You have to download the Omega Driver from the AMD Site and extract everything. After that, go to the folder "\Packages\Drivers\Display\WB6A_INF". There ist the "CU178000.inf" File, which we need to edit first.
Search for following String: ""%AMD6939.1%" = ati2mtag_Tonga, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6939&REV_00" and replace it with ""%AMD6939.1%" = ati2mtag_Tonga, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6938&REV_00", then save the file.

Now you need to create a new "CU178000.cat" file. For that you need to download the "Windows Driver Kit 8.1 Update 1" from Microsoft and install it.
After Installation you should have in the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\bin\x86" a EXE called "inf2cat"

Create a new Folder directly under C: lets say TEST. Copy from the extracted Omega Driver Folder "\Packages\Drivers\Display\WB6A_INF" 2 things to C:\TEST: "CU178000.inf" and the Folder "B178093".

Open a CMD as Admin and navigate to the folder: "cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\bin\x86"
Execute this line: inf2cat /driver:C:\TEST /os:8_X64
Now in your TEST Folder you have "CU178000.cat"

Step2:

Now we want to Install the Driver. But the Windows Driver Signature Verification, wont allow that
First open up againe a CMD Console as Admin and execute 2 commands:
"bcdedit.exe -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INEGRITY_CHECKS"
"bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON"
Then go to the Advance Boot Option. Everything else can be found online, there are plenty of good Step-by-Step "Howto Disable Driver Signature Verification".
You are going to Restart and then you will be in Windows but without the Restrictions.

Now you have to download a Tool: "Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider".
Againe, go Google it, im not providing Links.
Start that up as Admin, and choose 2 Options: "Enable Test Mode" and "Sign a System File"
When you choose the option "Sign a System File" it asks you for the location. -> C:\TEST\CU17800.inf. Do the same to "C:\TEST\CU178000.cat"

After that open the Windows Device Manager. Go to Display Adapter and open the Entry inside. Go to "Driver" and choose "Update Driver". "Browse my computer for driver software", "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer", "Have Disk...", "Browse" and the go to "C:\TEST\" and choose "CU178000".

It should recognize your Card as "AMD Radeon R9 200 Series". Install and reboot.

Finale

Now you should have rebooted without any problems and the driver should be installed just fine as in my Screenshot. Check the Device Manager!
I should note, that i did this on a clean Installation without any GPU Drivers installed. I only Installed afterwards the Catalys Software that came with Bootcamp, but without the DisplayDriver.
Maybe you can do it without deinstalling the old Drivers. Just test

I have the mid 2015 Macbook Pro Retina 15" with AMD Radeon R9 M370X.

First of all thank you very much for the instruction, I followed it and successfully installed the latest driver downloaded from the AMD auto detect utility. I have only one problem is the identity of the card in the Device Manage is incorrect, at the moment it shows 'AMD Radeon R9 M200X Series'. What I changed in the inf file was I copied '%AMD6821.1%" = ati2mtag_R577, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6821&SUBSYS_0149106B&REV_83' from the original Bootcamp driver and replace it whatever begins with '%AMD6821.1%' in the new driver which I can't remember exactly.

So I am just wondering if it's possible to correct the card identity or just leave as it is. Thank you .very much

For those wondering if this technique will work for Windows 10 with the latest 15.7 drivers. unfortunately we will have to wait for now.

I managed to modify the inf file enough to get the 'have disk' process recognize the driver, but when applying the computer will go black screen and then reboot back to the standard windows driver. Would love to know if anyone else has had any luck with windows 10 at all.

AMD sucks in supporting their customers, hope they go out of business soon.

I have installed Windows 10 after it has been released, but unfortunately there isn't a driver for AMD Radeon R9 M295X, which is installed on the iMac 5K. I hope Apple soon will update their boot camp drivers!

I've successfully upgraded to Windows 10, and I'm using the latest AMD drivers at the moment, 15.7.1

I have a Mac Pro (2013) with the D700s.

The process, which actually is quite easy:
1. Download the latest driver (at the moment of writing 15.7.1), the AMD Omega 14.12 driver, and the official December Bootcamp Driver 14.301.
2. Make a new folder called "modded driver", which purpose explains itself.
3. Copy everytning from the latest driver to "modded driver".
4. Copy everything from the Bin64 folder of the Omega driver and overwrite everyting in the Bin64 folder of "modded driver".
5. Copy "InstallManagerApp.exe" and "InstallManager.dll" from the Bin64 folder of the December Bootcamp driver, and overwrite the corresponding files in the Bin64 folder of "modded drivers".
6. Now you are ready to install the driver. Just run "setup.exe" in the root folder of "modded drivers"

Now you should have new and better performing drivers installed, working perfectly with Windows 10.

If you have problems with the Catalyst software, which I had on the latest driver updates in Windows 8.1 (but not anymore on Windows 10), do the same process with an earlier version of the driver (15.5 worked for me), run the setup, and chose custom installation. Here you only chose to install Catalyst. Now Catalyst should work properly too.

Also, if you encounter any more problems using this method, you should uninstall the driver using "Display Driver Uninstaller", and probably delete everything AMD related in the registry (CMD+R, regedit).

Hope it works for you guys too! That being said, I'm really disappointed in the Bootcamp support, and the driver updates. I'm actually thinking about selling my Mac Pro, and building a pure Windows desktop, and no more AMD!!! I'm doing a lot of video editing in Premiere Pro CC, and have the experience have disappointed med, compared to how much money I put in it. No way I want to switch to FinalCut X (testet it with the trial). Also I game a lot, and that's not great in either OSX or Windows/Bootcamp, especially on new games that require driver updates with new profiles. I can play Borderlands 2 in 4K, but almost can't play The Witcher 3 in 1080p, even with the latest (modded) drivers.

Btw. don't blame me if you brick your GPU (which I don't think it's likely to happen, but I just have to say it).

The above process does not work for those of us with the M295X card.

I tried the above steps with the original bootcamp driver installed and while the installer looks like it works, the graphics driver stays as the older version.

I used DDU to uninstall and then tried, and again install process appeared to work and look pretty, but the driver was still the Microsoft driver.
Sad day

I managed to get my Retina iMAC R295 playing nicely by using the AMD-Catalyst-15.6-Beta-Software-Suite-Win8.1-64Bit-June22 drivers.

Extracted them on my system and them updated the Microsoft Default Display Driver and browsed to the packages folder.

Seems to be working pretty well now

Just tried this method on Windows 8.1 and it worked! Going to upgrade to windows 10 now and try it!

Thanks duke!

Same thing happens on my R9 M370x card. The AMD installer sees the driver as already installed (it lists version 14.5 and thinks it is up to date).

What does it say under your Display Adapter Now?

I have the base model iMac 27 5k mid 2015 with AMD Radeon R9 M290.
The only method that has worked for me is:
Right clicking on the AMD Radeon R9 M290 to uninstall with "Delete driver software for this device." checked.
Install Catalyst 15.7 drivers (15.7.1 doesn't work with this method)
After installation, I right click on Microsoft Default Display Driver to update driver and choose the location where Catalyst extracted files to which is: c:\AMD\AMD-Catalyst-15.7-Win10-64bit

My Display Adapter should say: AMD Radeon R9 200 Series.
Instead it says: AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series.
Which kinda makes sense as R9 290 and the 290x are rebranded cards as per ExtremeTech:

The GPU powering the 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display is the R9 M290X, with the R9 M295X offered as an optional upgrade. The R9 M295X hasn’t technically been announced, but rumors from months back suggested this would be a Tonga-class GPU. Regardless, the R9 M290X is the minimum spec — and that chip is a rebranded HD 8970M, which was a rebranded HD 7970M, which is functionally equivalent to a desktop Radeon HD 7870.

After this installation, some 3D programs that didn't even load up properly now start up just fine.
