Question

How do you distinguish yourself from TEESHOT (4/5 stars for $19.99)??? Tell me why I should buy your product vs TEESHOT (they are getting the GPS yardage in place).

Sell me? I want to buy a golf product but not both. Why should I buy yours???

I think many are wondering the exact same thing.

Good question!!

Well, I think one thing that really sets us apart is a huge database of courses that are already gps enabled. We are adding more and more as fast as we possibly can too! So, out of the box, chances are that our application will work on your favorite course.

At this point, I think its hard to say which you should buy. Clearly, all the golf application makers want to create the same great features. But I really do think that the value in our application is the data we have been collecting to bring our users a usable system.

Other than that, I mean, it really is the same piece of hardware, so I guess you will just have to see which one you like in terms of usability and design, plus working features.

(Also ours is half the price of tee shot for the introductory version, so get in early!!) :D

Good Answer. Content for this application is very important. It takes a lot of time to mark your own courses. In my opinion the next most important is accurancy. Since both are using the same hardware, not sure if there is much any of you can do about it. At the same time, you felt that marking the center of the green should be good enough. I hope your application allows for more detail markings.

It looks like I would need two Apps, yours to track GPS and tee shot to track my score. Maybe I missed it, but, it sounds like your app does no score tracking.

I love the idea, but, it seems like a lot of clicking from one app to another. Not to mention what running gps on and for 4 - 6 hours (Southern California golf, sigh) would do to the battery.

Maybe I missed this one also, but, will you display green depth and width? So, even if you only track to the middle, I can at least know the green is 50 yards deep and 40 yards wide?

I see a future where I pack my fat extra Kensington battery and use my iPhone for golf. Just not sure I want to personally do this with two different applications.

Another golf app..

Check out Breakmeter. It's pretty cool. It helps you read the break on the green using the accelerometer in your iPhone.

Scorecard will be included in our second major version. It is already being developed and we hope to add the update after a few weeks.

By the way, we received word from Apple a few hours ago saying that vCaddy by GolfMapz is "Ready for Sale", which means that it should show up on the app store in 12-48 hours (from what I have heard).

I also think break meter is cool. I had thought of the idea of creating a feature like that when in "On the Green" mode, but I am not sure how many people would actually sit there with their iPhone laying on the green when they are putting. :) So, it is a "nice extra" that may eventually get added, but not a priority.

Break meter would violate the rules of golf. It may be a good practice aid, but adding it to your program would be useless.

its out!
vCaddy. i found it
obviously i havnt tried it yet, as its the middle of the night, but i have a suggestion already

for golf clubs that have more than 1 course, such as the wyndgate (by my house) are listed once for each course they have. but how can i tell which course i am selecting? you need a way to distinguish them

another example is oakland university, where i am a member. there are 2 courses, but only 1 in the app. however, i dont know which one it is based on the title. there should be a way to tell

If someone could post a review of this app with regards to accuracy and margin of error it would be much appreciated.

Right now, it looks to be just a big circle with the yardage to the middle of the green.

Its affordable at 9.99, but, I see only using this when my local course is not marked already. Especially because the accuracy can be + / - 10 yards.

Im still waiting for an app with markings to hazards, etc. I would pay some decent money for that.

Nice round of golf at Pebble no less!!!

Tell me why you say TeeShot is the best?

right now I use Smartscorecard on my iPhone to keep score. It's live tracking of my score on phone and on the internet. http://www.apple.com/webapps/sports/smartscorecard.html

Obviously lacking in GPS but other features works great.

I downloaded TeeShot yesterday and used it for the first time shortly after. Very user friendly and provides you with a ton of stats, keeps your handicap, etc. The developers are also very helpful and are planning on adding tons of features through updates, including GPS. I'd highly recommend TeeShot.

Looks pretty bare bones...not sure I would pay $10 for that, I think I will wait until you add additional features.

I just paid the $10 hoping to try out a course by me that I suggested and was subsequently added. But when I opened up the program, it's not listed, even though it's on the web site. Looking for Colonial Country Club in Harrisburg, PA.

The program looks pretty crappy to be honest. its no wonder the developers only hyped the program without posting any screenshots prior to its release. Though i suppose if the purpose of the program is simply to show you yardage to the green, then it do that subject to gps accuracy and accuracy of the course data.

right now teeshot is the way to go, and if you look at the teeshot site, you will see that version 1.5 is right around the corner with gps support.

Review

So I downloaded this program yesterday morning and played a course here in Colorado. I was really impressed with the accuracy. I played with a guy that had Skycaddie. 9 times out of ten we got the exact same reading.

Pros: It's a simple app that does exactly as advertised. It shows you your distance to the green on the hole you choose. It has almost every course in Colorado that I play, have played, or will play.

Cons: It does not instantly give you a reading. Example: I was 166 yards from the hole (marked on the golf course) and the app jumped from 189 to 175 to 156 and finally rested at 166. The readings are accurate it just takes a second to get there. I don't know if this is something with the App or if this is just how the GPS in the iPhone works. Also, on the course I played the holes were out of order. Example: Hole 10 was a par 3 but vCaddy had it listed as a par 4. This subsequently messed up the order of the rest of the holes as well. However, even though the holes were off I still got accurate readings to the hole.

For the price, this App is fantastic. My main gripe would be the time it takes to calibrate your actual position. Other than that, I think the application is awesome. I will continue to use this every time I golf.

Great job:D:D:D

Glad to see that you like it. I too am really enjoying the range finder while I play every monday. Its also fun to show it off to the buds.

Yes, we are working on the scorecard feature currently, and also have put in place a system to let our users submit course maps very fast if they know the course well. This way, data is more accurate (we check the submissions manually), and the courses get added faster for you guys to use (as opposed to us going through each of the 400 course requests we currently have).

We are still going through the requests manually, in order of when they were received (some courses though dont have layout information available online, so we cannot tell which hole is which, which is why the new tool is so valuable).

Hope you enjoy it. The accuracy is much better than the +/- 10 yards mentioned in many forums. This is because you are not using a-gps for both coordinates, but rather just for 1 coordinate(your current location), so it cuts at least in half the accuracy issues people had thought there would be.

I will make a suggestion though... Set your iphone lock timeout to 5 minutes. This way, the iphone's gps system does not go to sleep, and have to recalibrate on every hole. Not really the applications fault, but rather the way the iphone is programmed to use its gps capabilities. I can see this improving on their end in the future.

New Golf Rangefinder GPS APP out

Guys,

Greenfinder was just released for the iPhone in the Appstore. It is also a GPS rangefinder (previously available for the BB). It measures to front, center, and back of greens and to hazards as well. Real time downloading of as many courses as you want. Doesnt seem to have nearly as many at vCaddy but looks like the interface is better (for now) - however its 34 bucks. Be curious if anyone is looking at it and how it compares to vCaddy.
